Blame it on DP, Bhansali's search for Padmavati's husband, just doesn't seem to end...

Now usually, it's the director who decides the cast of the film. Coz obviously, he has his vision in place and knows who will look best as which character in the film. But in the case of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati, Deepika Padukone seems to have taken full charge of suggesting and rejecting actors who she thinks is not fit to play her husband in the film. Yes!

It first started with a TV actor who we hear was rejected just because he is not from Bollywood or say big enough' to share screen space with Deepika. Same happened even with the next choice, Vicky Kaushal where talks suggest he was almost finalised for the role but DP didn't really show any interest in having him on board, eventually making Bhansali lose out on him too...

However, talking about Fawad Khan, word is that this time Deepika was the one who tried every way to get this Pakistani hottie as her husband in Padmavati. In fact, that's probably also why we got to see their growing fondness for each other from IIFA 2016 to a recent fashion show. But sadly, Fawad isn't doing the film.

Now the only front-runner who we hear is in the running right now is Shahid Kapoor. Yes! Our sources EXCLUSIVELY reveals to us that Shahid doesn't mind even if he's required to play a second fiddle to Ranveer Singh in Padmavati coz on the personal front, he anyway will be going on a paternity break once his baby arrives. So for Shahid, Padmavati is ideally the most convenient film he can take up at this point in time and he is likely to sign the dotted line in the coming few days. But will Deepika approve of Shahid as her husband? Only time will tell.

For the ignorant, Padmavati is based on the life of Rani of Chittor (played by Deepika Padukone) in Rajasthan and Alauddin Khilji's (Ranveer Singh) obsession with her. Although the character of Padmavati's husband Rawal Ratan Singh is an important one but he is perceived as a weaker character as he was outsmarted by Khilji. Which explains why no big actor is willing to take up the role.
