I mention this, coz many a times nowadays when I watch a drama and they show the female protagonist as being docile and smilingly accepting all the carp that is dished out to her, my thoughts instantly go to Kashaf and I visualize how someone like Kashaf would never take such crap and give it right back.

Wish dramas showed more female protagonists like Kashaf. (Of course barring her negative attitude😉).

I agree...not for once does she take it lying down from anyone-whether her father, husband or anyone else.

Yes exactly. She may have been wrong in many places, like being unnecessary rude to Zarron or for that matter Osama too, but she at least had her say and made her stand clear. And in spite of knwoing that her mother did not approve yet she also stood up to her father, though in return she and her mother had to hear some very harsh words from him. But at least she spoke up!

That and also she made sure she let her mother know when she thought she was wrong/being too nice. Instead of weeping and moping around that was the best stand to take. Another thing I liked about ZGH was that the two younger sisters were not shown nikamme. They too tried and contributed to their income, worked as hard as Kashaf and Rafia and tried to improve their future by focussing on studies. They might have not been as good student as Kashaf was but were as responsible as she was.

I think in most of the Indian Soaps and in Pak Soaps too potragonists are shown to be middle class women who take all the crap dished out by her husband and in-laws wid a smile! So the ppl have in mind an image of a women who wears Suits, is meek and takes all the crap wid a smile! But what they dont know is that Middle Class women isnt a meek puppet in the hands of her husband and in laws. She has a heart and mind of her own and knows to speak! She knows to differntiate between right/wrong..!! She can stand up against all odds. Kashaf was shown to be just that and she broke all the norms for a sanskari susheel ladki as termed by our Society.

Shanaya I don't know what u mean by sanskari and susheel, but as I always said, Kashaf was a traditionalist and also a conformist. But what I liked is that even after showing her that, they show her having a mind of her own and being vocal about it. Unfortunately most dramas, Indians especially and sm Pak dramas too, tend to show that the traditional girl will be meek and not voice her opinion, whereas only the non-traditional ones will be bold and speak their minds out.

@ Bold - This is one of the things shown that I liked abt ZGH too. Again in most other shows they tend to show the main protagonist bearing the entire burden, with other family members not contributing at all, but realistically that's never the case. Also when they buy the house for Rafia, again they show Sidra contributing too. So well balanced. Butcan't say the same about Zaroon's family, which wasn't shown as balanced. Par as I say sau khoom maaf for ZGH.😉

Di, By Sanskari and Susheel I mean those women who are traditional meek and does not have a mind and heart of her own. Who takes up all the crap dished out by her husband and inlaws. Regarding Kashaf, I have watched many of Indian Soaps. But unfortunately I havent been able to connect wid any. But when I started watching ZGH, I saw Kashaf I was lyk, She Is Me! And I guess in today's age, Females lyk me are Traditioonalist yet liberal in their own way. I agree wid Zaroon's pov in many places. Women shudnt be so traditional so that they shudnt have a voice of their own. I too dun belong to a vry liberal family but still I have a voice of my own.

@ Bold - ah yes I know that's how TV shows, especially Indian ones define susheel and sanskari and it's really sad that such type of women r glorified.

U know for me Kashaf is susheel and sanskari. I mean she is susheel in the sense that she is a career woman, but knows household work and the most impressive according to Zaroon that is, taht she knows how to sew a button.😉 And it's her sanskar that does not make her confront her MIL when she overhears her telling Zaroon abt she passing on her money to he family or keeping aside her differences/ fight with Zaroon and wholeheartedly helping in Sara's wedding or calling her in-laws regularly to inquire about their well being. BTW i love how these little things were subtly incorporated in the show.

Why do you say so? Because of Ghazala? I think Zaroon's family was also pretty well balanced. Initially they have their differences but they rally behind each other later on.

Another thing struck me...while ZGH is a love story but they never show that a man comes to Kashaf's rescue out of her poverty or situation. That is landing a good husband and marriage and its success is the end all and be all for a woman. When Zaroon comes back to Kashaf's life she is as successful as he is and has solved the problems she had faced herself.

Yup...in many ways Kashaf is completely the ideal wife and daughter in law anyone would dream of. But I liked how despite this she doesnt give the vibe of being someone meek...she protests, has her say and her way. I think this characteristic is common among Umera Ahmed's female protagonists.
