very well put. A companionship cannot be broken only by external forces if there is already no cracks growing. Asher's insecurities and growing jealousy was initiation for it, his complete ceasae from communicating and being indifferent and ill treating lhirad without even explaining the reason broadened the gap and Fareeda and khizer were the last blow to braek it. the cracks were already developing between them.
