Chapter 7: Magical
“Mishti! Do you want me to cancel or pause our deal with the Kapoors?” Abir asked.
Mishti looked towards Abir and shook her head in disagreement. Abir asked her if she was sure. He held her hand and reaffirmed to her that she meant everything to him and that he could find other such deals for the company and the NGO. Mishti smiled again and placed her hand on his.
“I know.” Mishti took a pause. “Abir! I was a mistake for my parents. But the NGO and the kids of those NGO aren't. I am not going to let my personal life come in between any of this. We won't call it off. But if the Kapoors want to call it off because of Mrs Kapoor, I don't know.” Abir felt proud of Mishti. It always surprised him how she had always managed to think straight even in such emotionally draining situations. She was strong enough to take decisions because she wasn't scared of it being right or wrong. And that always helped her move forward no matter the situation. Abir nodded while looking towards Mishti. He held her hand again to kiss and held it close to his heart.
They reached Rajvansh house. Mishti excused herself to the room while Abir got busy talking to Kunal. As Mishti entered her room, she took her diary out, sat comfortably on the sofa chair and started writing. Abir was about to enter the room and he noticed that she was writing. He stood there and kept looking towards her. He noticed how her expression changed from time to time. It was the first time Abir was realizing that Mishti withheld so much emotions within herself. Even after sharing her feelings with him, she still had so much within herself that she kept on writing. He just wanted to give her time to deal with them. He stood with his hands folded, until she stopped writing.
She stopped writing, closed her diary and left it on the table. She closed her eyes and rested her head on the sofa chair. Abir walked towards her and placed his hand on her head. She was about to open her eyes but Abir asked her not to.
“Shhhh!! Just relax” Abir whispered in her ears. “It’s time for some magic”. He kneeled down facing her back and started massaging her shoulders. He placed his hands on the sides of her forehead and moved his fingers in a circular direction. He then moved to massage her scalp. His touch was soothing. It was relaxing. She felt as if every nerve of her body was responding. When his hand accidentally touched her neck, she felt jitters down her spine. A small smile was forming on her face. The creases on her forehead were lessening. It seemed like all her thoughts that were waging a war in her mind, were finally finding a corner to rest. Her heartbeat, which was on jetspeed with all the stress finally seemed to have slowed down. Her soul finally found peace after wandering around. The storm finally seemed to settle down.
She exhaled some air out of her mouth and slowly opened her eyes. She held Abir’s hand. Abir stopped and got up. He walked towards her. She slowly got up and he held her arms in his.
“How do you feel?” Abir leaned down and whispered in her ears. “Magical” Mishti whispered back.
“I have another magical idea.” Abir whispered with a smirk. Mishti looked towards him with curiosity.
“Music…..Dance….rain…” Abir paused for a moment. “Dancing in the rain is the best magical experience.” Abir smirked and caressed her cheeks. Mishti was confused. She kept staring with confusion. “Rain?” Mishti questioned. Abir smirked again. He walked towards their door and locked it. He connected his phone with the speaker in his room and played soft romantic music. He walked towards Mishti and extended his arm again. Mishti obliged but continued to be in confusion. Abir wrapped her hands around his neck and he wrapped his around her waist.
He slowly started dancing with her. Mishti followed his steps. They were both lost in each other's eyes. He slowly started walking towards their bathroom. He pushed the door open using his legs, while holding her in the same position. He guided her until they were under the shower. He pushed the knob of the shower using his back and the water started flowing down.
“Rain.” Mishti smiled and nodded her head in disbelief while looking at Abir’s solution for rain. He kissed her forehead and in return she kissed his nose. He touched his forehead with her’s and continued to dance. She placed her arms around his neck and tickled. He picked her up and twirled her around under shower. He placed her down and swirled her again. As he left her hand, she extended her arms and went in circles and enjoyed the shower like any child would in the rain. Abir admired her innocence. He admired her child like self which she was never scared of hiding. They happily splashed water at each other and ran around in the bathroom. They slipped and fell on the floor. They laughed and they giggled. He pulled her and made her sit comfortably in between his legs in such a way that her back rested on his chest. He hugged her tightly. She enjoyed getting drenched in his shower of love. He kept caressing his cheek on hers.
He loved to see her smile. He loved to see her laugh. If given a chance, he would keep staring at her smile for eternity. He was happy to see that at least for some time, she was able to put her pain and worries aside and enjoy the moment. He knew it wasn't a solution to her problems. That was always his way of handling his emotions. Going away and finding happiness in the outside world was always his way of dealing with his pain. He understood it might not work for her since Mishti’s way of dealing with her pain was far different. It was probably a distraction but he felt she needed the distraction from the constant emotional turmoil she has been facing in the last couple of days. Fearing that they could easily fall sick, they got up and he again abruptly pulled her into a hug. They stood in each other’s embrace for quite some time. It was their haven! Their best place! He placed a feathery kiss on her head again.
Mishti broke the hug and was about to thank him but Abir stopped her. He instead left a light peck on her lips which shocked her for that moment. “I think we should stop. At least let's turn off the shower. We are wasting too much water.” He nodded at her suggestion, caressed her cheeks again with his hand and suggested her to change as she was all drenched up. She nodded. Abir thought of a naughty idea and asked if she needed any help in changing. Mishti was surprised at his suggestion and hit him lightly on his shoulders. She pushed him out of the bathroom.
“Mishteeeeeee!!! Seriously I can help!! Plus! I am still all drenched in water. I need to dry up too. I need my towel. Common. You can help me. I can help you.” Abir continued to tease Mishti.
“Shut up Abir!!” Mishti opened the bathroom again to throw out his towel and closed it instantly. Abir smiled at her reaction and ended up changing in the room. He was drying his wet hair when his eyes fell on Mishti’s diary. He left the towel on the sofa chair and was about to pick up the diary but he heard the noise of their bathroom door opening. Mishti walked out and went towards the mirror to dry her hair. Abir got distracted. She looked even more beautiful with her drenched hair. Her long, drenched hair. He was not able to take his eyes off her. He walked towards her and pulled her in a back hug. He closed his eyes and enjoyed her fragrance. He kept rubbing his nose on her head as if he was just not able to get enough of her. Mishti was loving the attention Abir was showering on her.
“God Mishti! This might sound a bit cheesy but you are much more prettier than the moon. I am sure he is very jealous right now.” Mishti just rolled her eyes at his compliment. Truth to be told, even she wasn't able to take her eyes off him. Her beautiful man looked even more handsome with his drenched hair. His cologne was making her weak. His feathery kisses were making her lose her mind. “Why are you so beautiful” Abir whispered again hoarsely in her ears. Mishti smiled and said “I got my genes from my pa….” Mishti paused for a second. She realized what she was going to say. She recalled everything that happened in the last couple of days and closed her eyes. But she managed to gather herself quickly. She had no intention in ruining Abir’s efforts. “You should call and ask badi ma” said Mishti with a smile on her face. Abir understood her state. He knew she was trying to be normal. He tightened his hug and kissed her ears.
They heard a knock on the door. Abir broke the embrace and both of them looked towards the look. “Abir Bhaiya!! Mishti Bhabhi!! Dinner is ready. Come by soon.” They both looked at each other through the mirror. They both smiled looking at one another and decided to head for dinner.
Even while having dinner, Abir’s constant attention was on Mishti. He noticed how hard she was trying to be jovial and normal with the family. And how she was being successful too. Majority of the family members had no idea on what she was dealing with. Either Mishti was really a good actress or the family was just happy by looking at the book cover. It reminded him of this time during their break up. How the family was so oblivious to his situation. How even after knowing how much he loved Mishti, they acted as if he was ok. At least here they had no idea about Mishti. So there was no way they were even going to think any further. Abir also kept his eyes on Meenakshi. Meenakshi knew Abir was keeping a closed eye on her and she was nervous. She might take the world lightly but she knew better to never take Abir’s warning lightly. So she was trying hard to not say anything against or not let anyone else say anything for the time.
After spending some quality time with the family, everyone retired in their respective rooms. Mishti changed and cuddled herself to sleep in Abir’s embrace. He kept caressing her arm and kissed her head. Abir wasn't able to sleep. He was somewhere not at peace. Knowing that she was still suffering was killing him. He was at least relieved that she opened up a bit today and was ok to be in his embrace. That she was at least letting him be around her. He wanted to help. He wanted to know more. He knew the distractions were not going to be of any help for longer runs. That they weren't any permanent solutions to her problems. Learning that Mishti had been fighting the same battle since childhood was breaking his heart. He wondered if there was any solution to her problems. And he hated the fact even more that somehow he had contributed to that pain of hers despite promising to protect her from that pain.
His attention fell on her diary again. He knew her diary was her secret keeper. Her best friend. After he came into her life, he became her confidant. After having him in her life, she rarely wanted to write anything in her diary. She was never scared of scaring her deepest fears with him. But after the resort incident, Abir had found Mishti writing in her diary quite a few times. She hadn't stopped sharing her worries with him so he wondered what she always wrote in the diary. He felt a strong need to read her diary hoping to find some answers to the questions he had surrounded himself with. He carefully placed her head on the pillow and covered her with the blanket. He caressed her head again to make sure she comfortably sleeps feeling his embrace. He took one last glimpse of her before he headed towards the table. He took her diary and sat comfortably on the table. He opened it and started reading.
