When the initial news of this series came to being, one of the things that also was said was that Shaheer's role will be similar to Hrithik's role in Zindagii Na Milegi Dobara. So I watched the movie to understand what kind of role Hrithik played in that movie. In the movie Arjun (Hrithik) is a stockbroker who is a workaholic. His backstory is that his father died when he was very young and left his mother with a mountain of debt. This has made him be determined to make enough money to ensure that his wife and kids never face that kind of situation. His girlfriend breaks up with him because of him putting his job above spending time with her. In the beginning of the movie he is shown to be a serious and mature person. But after meeting Katrina and spending time with her, he starts to loosen up and learns to live life and enjoy the moments.
One of his friend is Imran, an advertisement copy writer, who also writes peoms and shayari's. It is shown that he lives with his mother and his father left when he was just a baby. He resents this and is kind of estranged from his mother. He blames her for his father leaving them. He is shown to be funny and witty at the same time as someone who doesn't take anything seriously. During their trip, he finds whatever he can about his dad. Finally he meets up with him in the hopes to unite with him. But it is at that point that his father tells the truth as to why he left them. He reveals that he never wanted the responsibility of a married life with children but Imran's mother Rahila did. He also tells that even now he is still not ready for the responsibility of the kid and likes his freedom of continuing as an artist. It is then that Imran realizes how much he has hurt his mother and what his mother has went through in her life. After the trip when he comes home, he hugs and apologizes to her.
Watching the series, I feel that Abir is not the one who is portraying the role of Arjun(Hrithik), but it is Kunal. He is the one who feels his mother's pain and struggles after their father left them. Just like in the movie, he is heartbroken by his girlfriend leaving him. He is shown to be brooding over his heartbreak. Just like Katrina who helps Hrithik to come out of his heartbreak and the past, I feel Kuhu will help him to become more relaxed and learn to live in the moment in the future. I also feel that it is Kunal who will help Kuhu gain the perspective she currently lacks.
I feel Abir is like Imran in the movie. Just like Imran blames his mom for his father's leaving, Abir thinks his dad left because of his mom's dominating behavior. She has not told the truth of why he actually left. She is hoping that Abir understands her and doesn't keep the hope of his father coming back. It is this misunderstanding that has these two on the opposite ends most of the time. That is where Mishti and her father comes in. Her father who is a criminal who has been blackmailing the family who have adopted her and treat her as their own. They showed her finding Naman's truth now itself because she will be the one to help Abir realize and accept the truth regarding his father.
I am liking the way the story is progressing so far although the editing feels a little choppy. I hope that they get that back on track.
