As for why he would do so.. It's makes sense to be part of his redeeming arc. His redemption would be complete with this. Akshara's greatest fear was Abhimanyu taking Abhir from her.. He would prove her wrong. It's like Kartik telling Naira 'Am sorry and I understand why you did what you did' and not taking Kairav from her. It put them on a healing journey.

Basically it opens the pathway for Abhira reunion when Abhinav is gone. Akshara would never forget this gesture and forgive him. One final selfless act and redemption complete. I think that's the major overarching story here. Why Harshad is still on the show and not phased out.

He definitely has fans. If someone has watched ITV from 1990s..esp the 2000s, pretty sure he's written atleast one show they were fan of.
