The latest actors to fall prey to this quickly developing trend are none other than Hina Khan and Karan Mehra of Rajan Shahi's Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai fame. Besides being amongst the most sought after actors on television at present, Karan and Hina also find themselves amidst the most popular screen jodis. Alas! Their chemistry and friendship is only limited to their on-screen histrionics, because off screen, the two barely exchange pleasantries.
According to sources from the sets, Karan and Hina's silent war began soon after the two started working together. Says our source, "Initially they got along well. They would laugh and joke around. But soon enough, the two stopped communicating. In their two-year-old working relationship, they must have spoken just for the first six months."
Though the reason for their cold war is not clear, close friends of the two insist that it's because of their different mindsets that they have fallen out. While Hina is bubbly and likes to mix around with people, Karan prefers to stay on his own and not lose focus.
Sources from the sets also claim that another major reason for their conflict is the hectic shooting schedules. "Nowadays, every actor claims that their working environment is like one big happy family. But that is far from the truth. In fact, the more you work together, the more you tend to become aware of each other's flaws. And that's when the problems begin. The same has happened with Karan and Hina," reveals our informer.
Luckily, however, the two haven't let this affect their work. Our informer continues, "The two come to the sets and do their work sincerely. They talk to people they like, but try not to cross paths. It's amazing how they switch on and off so fast."
It's sad when one of the most popular couples on TV today refuse to communicate with one another on the sets. Amid all this speculation, we at Showtime, decided to get in touch with the people concerned to get the real dope. When we got in touch with Karan, he seemed rather diplomatic about the situation. "See, we don't have any problem with each other. It's just that I don't talk to anybody on the sets. I have a very professional approach to everything. I come to the sets, do my work and leave. We shoot with each other every day, so we obviously can't hate one another."
But rumours of their cold behaviour have been doing the rounds for a while now. Apparently, Hina even imitates Karan on the sets - something that he does not appreciate. What does he have to say about that? "I have never really seen her imitate me. If she does that, it means that she really watches me. I don't. I just focus on my work. And all the other times, Nisha (Rawal, his girlfriend) and I are busy with the work of the acting school," he states, "Also, I don't want to get into a catfight with anyone. I have a long way to go in this industry. So I stay away from scandals and all. I have much more important stuff going on in my life."
Rumour also has it that Karan loses out on plum projects and appearances because Hina refuses to make appearances with him. Probe him on it and he pauses for a few seconds, "Look, we don't do stuff apart from Yeh Rishta… because we have different markets. When it's for Star Plus, we shoot together. Then she doesn't really have an option, she has to do it," he discloses and then adds, "Plus, Hina is not too comfortable about dancing. So we don't do those events. In fact, we even have different tastes. So we don't endorse the same things. I have done many dance performances alone and it's okay." Even after repeated attempts, Hina Khan remained unavailable for comment.
Well, that Hina and Karan's friendship has gone sour is evident. And even though they're reluctant to confirm this right now, we'll keep you posted when they finally decide to break their silence.
