Yup, it started very well, but now.... one doesn't have to show modern or westernised women but they don't have to be reduced to domestic help...

These serials are messing with the elders brains b/c they are showing the younghems following their restrictions so the elders expect us to...

Haven't seen the show but to me even the basic premise of that show is demeaning... a bunch of girls parading for the men & mom-in-law to choose from? 5 men being given the option to choose from 10 girls? I don't watch the show cos it offends my sensibilities... Of course, I may be wrong because I have not really watched the show

great evalaution. I agree, all the women in this show are shown having no stand in their household. Akshara who can never speak up or stand for herself (HOWEVER now she has the courage to talk to her hubby since she knows him, im happy!), sunaina, the helpless women, rajshri "bechari "got sick because she wanted to force her son and DIL to have a baby cuz she didnt have anything to do to pass her time!! bahbima and gayatri slaving over the kitchen and working like a clock in the house, arent there maids?

Im not saying that working in the house is not work , all work is work, however it seems their whole life revolves around it. They have completely created a negative impression of what marriage is about. Its not about serving your husband but about working together, each person has equal authority and responsiblity. In these chaning times i dunno if people will respond well. I love this show because for me its i watch it and tune it out however others take thes matters to the heart and may end up following these steps as they get older.. It would have been nice if akshara had been bold, then this family would have gotten a jatka!
I agree with DMGFan-2b-not2b , all the shows portray women as either to weak, or to skanky, too traditional or extra modern. MOST of us out there are not like that, i feel i am a good balance of both east and west. Why have we not seen a complete women character in any serial to date? Am i being tooo touchy, sorry guys, id idnt meant to vent out like that, i love naksh and like the serial because i can tune it out, i enjoy it like a show and forget about it. But those that are impressionable, i agree it doesnt send out a good message!

Well said Saydie.. they seem to believe that marriage for a women is all about looking after the kitchen, serving their husbands (I can't understand why women can't eat with their husbands but must wait hand and foot?) and generally asking for permission to even live!

I think this happens to all the serials.. they go off track!

I would love to watch Akshara and Varsha continuing their studies, delay the plans of having babies at this stage, balance their studies and family well & turn into confident women....

Charu, I agree in some conservative households women get releated to a secondary position and that' what needs to be fought against. Or at least an effort made to shatter that image and it's not that difficult.
My mom never went to office, she was a housewife but she was never a doormat whose only job was to look after the family. She had varied interests and pursued them with great enthusiasm.. My dad and she were not "husband" and his 'wife" but they were partners...my mother had an equal voice in everything that they did, she never needed to ask for permission! Her in-laws were conservative too, but my dad ensured that she never bore the brunt of it.... that's what I was talking about!

exactly that's why everybody's views differ bec. of the varied experiences of our life....you saw your parents like that, may be everybody in ur in laws, you and ur husband, that's why you think that this practice should be changed....but imagine the previous generation (our moms) acted according to the atmosphere they got in their house...they never ask for a change bec. they think it's the way of life...they were brought up that way, they were asked follow such and such traditions and they never objected..we can't blame our moms to be "only" housewives and not doing anything substantial all through their lives....every new generation will bring a change which old gen. never thought of...it's a circle of life....

in yrkkh, none of the females are doormat.... there r worse cases of explotation which is being shown in other serials..like balika vadhu, na aana is des mein laado, agle janam etc. etc.

i believe in yrkkh, we WILL witness a change ..a PROGRESS ..slow but steady..and whatever is shown here, we must not take it literally...like i said in one of my posts that parents do put restrictions on their children, if not for a simple thing like watching movies then may be... for taking drugs but therez a constant tug of war between the old and new..in every family....

ppl. living outside India may call us backward but the fact is that we KNOW how to LIVE like a family..what do they boast of actually? they are proud of this culture where they meet their parents after 4-5 years? or about frivolous relationships? live in relationships? i never understood what exactly do they mean by "enjoying life" , "freedom", "independence" ??? which they get in the West and not in India !

My mom, my grand mas were and has lways been working ladies. So i really dont believe in this that the generations before us or our mom's generation had to go thru this. My mom and dad's marriage was totally an arranged marriage and my mom only accepted the mariage that she will keep on working and everybody accepted her whole heartdly. My grandma always took my mom side on anything. So i really cant relate to this show in any sense. Me myself is working lady is more frineds with my mother in law rather than my mother but making issue of the movie thing has no sense in my POV. Even if u guys come back and say that in small towns and villages these practices r still on I don't believe it as I feel that in villages ladies help their husband in the fields and then they do housework too. They r more agrressive.

I totally agree with u all. Even if the family were that that conservative in our grand mom and mom's generation, now the times are changing. they should show things which will help us move forward and not go backward. My parents always believed in being partners but my in laws r bit conservative. There r still lot of people who r in between in transition and by watching such things on TV, they always try to compare their DIL's to those on TV and think that they r giving lot of freedom and may think of moving to conservative side thus causing in their family.

completely agree..how come v dont see women the way they really are today..i agree in villages and maybe smaller towns women mite be docile but even there sum amt of progress WIL take place if awareness is created..not by advocating regressive ideas..examples of how women can do wonders can b shown widout it looking like a documentary..
