Karthik entered the Reddy premises. He immediately asked for KK & Srikanth, who were in the study.
"Appa!", He called out as he opened the door.
KK looked at him suddenly and then returned to his calm posture after momentary attentiveness.
"Reddy Corporation se koi bik gaya hai!", He told him.
"What?", Srikanth was terribly shocked but KK still didn't give a reaction.
It all played out in front of him -
Those years of coal mines, the struggles. The step by step rise to recognition. And the guilt.
Neeta followed into the study soon after.
She signalled the boys to leave. Karthik was wanting to speak more but had to give in.
"Kya Soch rahe ho KK? Suna maine", she asked him coldly.
"Yahi, ki Siddhant bik gaya hoga? Kyunki woh tumhaare jaisa hai?", She commented sarcastically.
KK couldn't meet her eye. Only she knew that his rise to power stood on the edifice of Neeta's family trust. He'd exploited their marriage to the fullest by very conveniently making use of her father's resources until they were none left. The Reddy Corp had its foundation of grey. His only rightful possession was a group of Construction companies that he'd received as Neeta's share to their marriage.
Neeta had never quite forgotten it and didn't completely forgive KK, although she had very little option to do anything else. Their love had almost gone sour. The slow transition of Kapoor Firms to Reddy Corporation was painstakingly sorrowful.
KK had forced her father to sign deals that were slightly against principles, had asked him to go real hard on enemies. And that's how he came up, stepping up on her shoulders. He didn't even leave room for her brothers, who were quite leading a normal life. So much for apparent love.
"Siddhant aisa nahi hai KK", she told him. "Woh Prabhakar Sinha ka beta hai". He was angry. Why wasn't Siddhant like him? Why was he so good?
KK left the room to find Karthik eagerly waiting outside.
"Appa Vikram! Vikram bik gaya!", He blurted. "Siddhant ne pata lagaya!", He told him.
His eyes widened.
Srikanth's phone buzzed. The IT Dept had raided their warehouse. One after one the news started breaking out - first the ship yards, then steel factories. And now the cement plant.
He fretted. What if their construction companies too were seized? They were the heart of KKR. His heart was sinking and head was spinning. He found solace in the support of a chair, with Karthik & Srikanth by his side.
They switched on the television.
Breaking news! Reddys downpoured with IT raids. All industries seized - except the Construction sites.
Anushka Reddy, aapka kya kehna hai? Yeh sab kya hua? Kya KK Reddy ne bhi lakhon rupaiyon ki hera pheri se yeh empire khada kiya hai?
KK's eyes swelled with tears as well as seethed in anger. What was Anushka doing there! That too at this hour. He wanted to tell someone to get her home safely but couldn't speak.
"Dekhiye, aap mujhse baat kijiye", Siddhant intervened. He pulled her back in his grip and told the reporters to stay away. She couldn't help but look into his eyes. He was determined. He was adamant. Her elbows touched his chest amidst the ruthless swarming people. But she felt protected in his grip, in a safe haven!
She reminisced the moment when he grabbed a ball from hitting her. She could always fall back on him, no matter what!
"No comments please", he told them firmly, once and for all. He grabbed her hand and walked away from the spot, right through the crowd, leaving the chaos behind. The Reddys were transfixed to their chairs.
