Getting into the skin of a character is extremely crucial for an actor regardless of the medium. TV actor Randeep Rai has been making a lot of effort to make his character Sameer look believable in the show Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai'. When the show kicked off in September last year, the actor knocked off 11 kilos to get into the shoes of a school boy convincingly. And now, he plans to undergo treatment to get rid of the permanent tattoos on his body. The actor has a large tattoo spread on the left side of his neck and a relatively smaller one on his hands which have to be covered with a layer of cosmetics before he can get into hair-and-make-up for the shoot every day.
"I have undergone a couple of sessions of laser treatment to have the tattoos removed. It takes up a lot of time to just cover them up before I can get into hair and make-up. I play a character who is from the late 1980s or 90s and people didn't really have tattoos those days, especially characters like Sameer who belonged to a certain part of the society. So, to avoid trouble while shooting, I am getting rid of these tattoos although I am really fond of them, says Randeep who believes looking after oneself in his profession is more of a necessity than a luxury.
When not shooting, the actor makes it a point to work out enough and also make periodic visits to the salon to keep his hair and skin under check. "When I am not shooting, I have to pay attention to myself. As actors, we work long hours with harsh lights and make-up on. So, whenever we get the time, we try to work on ourselves because it's more of a professional requirement today than a luxury, says Randeep.
