Just curious to know from fellow forum members - who else sees similarities between YUDKBH and DDLJ?

As someone who was a 90's teen, DDLJ sort of epitomized romance, especially for that particular time. I tend to divide 90's Bollywood, at least in terms of romantic comedies/dramas, into two categories: pre-DDLJ and post-DDLJ. In the late 80's and early 90's, rom coms were more earthy, with a distinct Indian flavor to them. DDLJ had those things as well, but it also took on a more western and urban approach, especially with the character of Raj.

Though YUDKBH is more like Maine Pyar Kiya and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in terms of overall setting, there are many parallels that can be drawn with DDLJ:

Sameer from YUDKBH and DDLJ's Raj are actually quite alike - both come from a rich family, and neither of them seem to have a purpose in life. Raj, like Sameer, isn't good in studies, and spends most of his time getting into trouble with his two sidekicks (though they aren't nearly as funny as Munna and Pandit!😆)

Naina is similar to DDLJ's Simran in that she is also a dreamer, a total romantic at heart. We all know Naina is a topper in school, and she eventually becomes a writer. Simran also is shown to be fond of reading and writing, and penning poems about her dream guy! Also, both come from an overall conservative upbringing - both Naina and Simran come off as a bit prudish, in the sense they don't want to let go of the values and belief system they hold dear to them.

Now, as Naina and Sameer get ready for their trip to Mount Abu, I cant help but be reminded of Raj and Simran's trip to Switzerland. Raj ended up falling head over heels in love with Simran at the end of that journey, and it seems something similar will happen to Sameer here.

Lastly, Raj had to overcome many obstacles in order to finally get his happy ending with Simran. He even managed to win over her father, who had a strong disliking for Raj since the first time they met. In that way, Sameer will also eventually have to go through a lot to get the Librarian on his side, which should be interesting to see! 😊

Well sorry if I bored everyone to death 😆 Please do comment with your thoughts if you'd like!

Actually many characters can get similarity with raj and simran...I remember one interview where it was said by someone that when DDLJ came...every girl wanted a boy like Raj and every boy wanted a girl like Simran...they were epitome of romance that time...if these characters share similarities with these characters...there is nothing abnormal in this😊
we would find many similarities with these characters😃
