AKASH GANGA SOCIETY, 9.00 pm

Ruhi Bhalla was surprised when her papa requested her to sleep in his room that night. This was a rare event. Her papa was a very restless sleeper, he rolls about on the bed, even makes weird noises while sleeping. It was quite difficult to sleep near him, so he never made Ruhi sleep near him...

Once he settled Ruhi and her teddy bear on the bed , Raman too joined his daughter.

" Ruhi beta, are you still upset?"

" About what papa?"

" About what happened at Adi's .."

" It is okay, didi lied and Ishima was silent because she did not want to hurt Mani uncle,how can she call Aliya didi a liar in front of him?."

Raman realised that his daughter would not like to hear something that will go against her firm belief of Ishitha being her mother. He also realised that he was in a way going to break her little heart.

" Ruhi, can I tell you a story?"

" Papa you are a bad story teller! But Ishima ...she told me so many beautiful stories when we were in the beach house. Papa have you heard the one in which a prince-"

" Ruhi, I will tell you a different one...You know about Lord Krishna."

" Ishima already told me-"

" Really Ruhi? Did she tell you about Krishna's two mothers, Devaki and Yashodha ?"

When Ruhi gave no reply, Raman gained the courage to continue.

" One mother gave birth to him and his other mother brought him up...Krishna did not know about his birth mother for a long time, but he never missed her or longed for her love.."

" Why papa, everyone want their mother's love?"

" His other mother loved him so much that he never felt the need for anyone else's love...Yashoda maiyya gave him so much happinesss that he never missed Devaki."

" But Papa, how did Krishna get two mothers?"

" Krishna was someone very special..just like Ruhi..And like Krishna, Ruhi too have two mothers..."

" Papa, I don't want to hear this..please...I have my Ishima and I do not want to be special like Krishna and have another mother..."

" You had no choice, Ruhi... Your Ishima loves you and makes you happy , but someone else gave birth to you-"

" Papa no-"

" Yes Roo, Your birth mother's name is Shagun."

" But papa Ishima is your wife, she is Adi bhaiyyas mother, so she is my mama too..."

" Ruhi ..After your Adi bhaiyya was born Ishima had to go away with Adi because I did something terrible and wrong with her...Papa thought they were better off without him , so he never called them back...Papa was very lonely after the two of them left, so your dada and dadi brought me a friend, she was Shagun. Shagun promised to stay with me forever, so I made her my wife. Then you were born, but your Shagun mama too had to leave...she had something important to do in her life, something that made her really happy...but papa and Roo could not go with her there . Shagun left after I promised her that I will take care of you...Then your Ishima came back and even though she was still angry with your papa she could not help but love you, ..."

Ruhi's silence undid Raman. He could hear the blood pounding in veins. With bated breath, Raman waited for Ruhi's reaction.

" So I am not Ishima's daughter?"

" Ruhi, when you are with Adi and Ishitha, does she treat the two of you differently?"

" No."

" Have you ever felt that Ishitha loves you less than Adi?"

" No."

" Then she is your mother too ..."

Ruhi was again silent.

" Papa Krishna loved Yashodha more than Devaki, right?"

" I think so..."

" So did Devaki ever come back to take Krishna away from Yashosha?"

Raman had to fight back the tears threatening to spill from his eyes.

" No. Krishna went to see her on his own when he was older."

Raman continued after a pregnant pause.

" Did Krishna's papa sent him to Devaki?"

" It was his choice. He went because he wanted to..."

" What if I never want to go to Shagun mamma? Is it wrong of me ?"

This time Raman could not rein in his tears. He tightly hugged his little girl and cried with her...

Abhi gently laid a sleeping Aliya on the front seat of his car and closed the door.. Ishitha stood close to him. As they waited for the watchman to come and open the gates, Ishitha turned towards him.

" Why did you say that?"

" What?"

" Why did you tell Ruhi all that ?...It is Raman's duty to tell her about her mother...How can you expect me to-"

" Whatever Raman may say to her , it is your choice...It is your choice whether or not to become her mother...It is for you decide whether the little girl could ever call you ' mumma'."

With that Abhi tuned towards his car .

The next morning...

Raman was on his way to Ishitha's clinic. He got to know from his father that

Ishitha called on the land line to enquire about Ruhi last night... she was unable to reach him even though she had tried to phone him several times last night. He and Ruhi were fast asleep, and his phone was lying dead in the living room

Raman's mind was racing with thoughts. Ruhi was a behaving a little distantly with him and he did know how to face Ishitha. ... Will she chastise him for not informing Ruhi about Shagun? Will Adi hold him responsible for Ruhi's distress?...

On reaching her clinic, Raman was informed that Ishitha was busy with a minor surgery and . Raman decide to wait in Ishitha's cabin.

Raman was absently rotating the with the snow globe on Ishitha's table when he heard the insistent ringing of Ishitha's phone. He ignored it at first, but when the calls refused to stop, he decided to take the call and inform the person on the other end that Ishitha was busy at the moment...

Ishitha was waiting for her turn to meet Dr. Priya. She could hear her own heart beats ...If the result came positive , many lives were about to change...

Raman parked his car in front of City hospital. He could not meet Ishitha earlier as he had to finish something urgently..something he should have finished off much more early...Anyway he was curious to know why the madrassan rushed to another hospital as soon as she was done with the surgery...Sarika , Ishitha's receptionist had told him that Ishitha had gone to meet a Dr. Priya...

The woman from the 'inquiry' informed him that Dr. Priya was a gynaecologist and directed him to her cabin.

The corridor was deserted ..Ishitha might be the last patient that day...The cabin door was partially open . Raman occupied the seat closest to the cabin door and waited for Ishitha...

" OH MY GOD"

Raman heard Ishitha shrieking from the doctor's room...He strained his ears ..he was curious to know about the the reason that made Ishitha this excited.

" Congratulations Ishitha."

" You can't even imagine how esctatic I am...A baby..Thank you Murugan.."

Baby ? Whose baby? Was Ishitha pregnant? Raman waited with bated breath...

" Adi is going to be too happy when he knows that he is going to become a brother...and Appa..Appa will return to us happily when he gets the news that he is going to be a grand father for the second time."

Raman stood up from his seat..Happy tears pooled his eyes. Raman never knew he will get this happiness again in his life..the love and respect he had for Ishitha magnified in his heart..the fact that she was happy to carry his child made him so cherished ...

He left the hospital immediately..he had to plan a surprise!
