Thank you for making this post. You have put it so bluntly, one can't even counter it. I am one of those people who have tried to stick to this show as much as I can and yes we the viewers are guilty on several counts here..there were many things that can be termed as outrageous that were forced down our throats..and we have swallowed them all..some of us used what we call as tunnel vision..all in the name of the lead actors who have always portrayed Raman Ishita & Ruhi so well..but this surrogacy track is more like a final blow..and so we are reeling and reacting!! I don't know how else to put it.Originally posted by: charminggenie
It's been ages since I saw this show but off and on I do keep a track to see how much of a mess they can make of a bound novel and I am not surprised at all.
The show died for me during the Mani angle, it wasn't about the woman having a friend, a confidante of her own but the way it was used to create contriving angles and dumping down of both leads. I expected a lot from two educated individuals who both had their own share of angst yet their behaviour was so immature . He emotionally abusing her and she with her highly condescending.I am sorry, i don't really see the outrage here because I have seen worse. Wife-beating her husband in the name of slap-stick comedy. Raman forcing himself on her. But what was far worse , the so called love making- the guy insulted her a in full view in a party, she was almost molested , drugged out in a room but nope , no sensitivity to a woman's plight or her despair at the "what ifs" of her condition but they conveniently made it about so called passion..huh? How can a woman be intimate with her husband so soon, after facing the possibilities of molestation and worse. So why should I lynch Raman for talking surrogacy when the woman never showed me a reaction even after drugged out/almost molested experience. Not only that, i then saw this lady talk about her sex life with the whole family- his ex-wife. Woah, really? Slow clap. Because that is so progressive, why the heck would you need to rub it on your ex- it's your intimate, moment, special and private .But then we saw the whole butchering of a young child, because for Ishita it became all about "Ruhi ke liye". Never about her wants, desires of experiencing motherhood. It was rather conveyed through Raman while it seemed Ishita was going through a chore. Now coming back to this promo, I am not that outraged ..1) it;s a promo . 2) - It's a husband having a conversation with his wife about their need/want/desire of another baby - I like that communication, they might differ on it but atleast they are talking , getting to know where each one of them stands and do they need it really? 3) Because ultimately they both conveniently take out Ruhi ke liye card 4) Is it insensitive of him- well he is been like that since always, in his anger he used to remind her of her condition - funny, that was more insensitive because she took it all and pretended that it was merely a lovers' tiff. 5) they never really talked about family, kids , aspiration- there is a lot of assumption running here and we try to extrapolate instead. 6) Ishita's call- as a wife, she will have to talk about this, present her case. Simple. Rather than silly OTT crying and outrage behaviour, can she act real for once and sit him down and share why she wanted the baby and she doesn't need to have a child to feel the emotion of motherhood . Can this couple ever learn to communicate ?Personally they both are immature and not ready for any relationship, because they never seem to grow or treat their thing as one unit. They are in it because Ruhi, family and hence they will never separate because story trope breaks down. But that doesn't make them ideal couple or this love story worth cherishing. All we are left is with a character called Ishita who is Ekta template, all verb , never a noun and Raman , the one to err and err .
