Hi All!Just to let u knw I have my helmet on just in case ANGAD HATERS attack me with chappals & tomatoes. I wont be surprised if they are ready to smear my face with Kaalik
Lot of readers were diagnosed with serious health issues like:
Seene me Jalan/Acidity (Reason: Angad and not Raman was the hero)
Badhazmi/Indigestion (Reason: Ishita's pairing with Angad)
Not a Doc by profession, so seeking some medical advice from my sis who happens to be a Doc (Dentist, not Doctor according to Raman), I have found a remedy for the problem.
Hazme ki goli is the best known cure for the above mentioned health issues.
The best available Hazme ki goli in the YHM store was IshRa scenes.
The pharmacist said that the tab named IshRa scenes is the most powerful medicine and has the power to cure all diseases infected by YHM virus.
Hence I have decided to go by that.
So here comes the next part with lot of IshRa dosage...
Part 3: Mere Khwabon Me Jo Aye
Going by the title, if you are expecting me to dance around wrapped in a white towel and sing the song like Kajol did in DDLJ, then let me disappoint you coz I ain't doing any of them.
Why the title then? You may wonder.
I am sure you all must be eager to know about the one who has free access into my dreams. Right?
So today I am going to tell you about him: Mere khwabon me jo aye.
Let me start from the beginning.
One fine summer vacation, when I was just 5 years old, we were moving to Mumbai from our homeland owing to my father's transfer.
A new place, a new home, new surroundings, new people.
Everything was going to be new and I was so excited like any other kid because I would get to do something unique and different.
But in a few days my excitement died its own death as I had no friends there.
It was not like there were no kids in the colony. There were but most of them were out of town or at their grandparent's place for the vacation.
So it was only me in the colony as of now.
I needed a partner to play with and Amma Appa were too busy in adjusting to the new atmosphere and getting tings sorted.
I was left all alone and used to sulk in the corner of my room.
Every morning I silently prayed to God to send some kid to the colony.
Two doors away from ours lived an old Punjabi couple with their young son.
When I was sulking and gone to sleep on empty stomach one evening, I woke up amidst loud noises coming from the Punjabi's house and Amma's complaining to Appa about it:
"These Punjabis have no manners at all. Kitna chillate hain ye log. Ye bhi nahi sochte ke unke neighbours ko disturb ho raha hoga"
"Madhu, unke ghar koi guest aya hoga. Otherwise you know na how quite they are"
"Quite aa? Every morning that uncultured son of theirs plays bollywood songs when I am doing pooja. And whenever I want to work peacefully I hear the wife yelling at her husband"
"Just like you do" Appa mumbled softly. I stifled a laugh standing behind the door of my bedroom.
"Enna? You are accusing me of shouting at you? When do I shout at you? Tell me" Amma demanded.
'Now you are doing exactly that Amma' I wanted to say but swallowed it inside me for I knew if I uttered a word now I would be grounded for days.
Grounded! I am already feeling grounded with no friends around, I sulked again.
"No Madhu. you never shout at me. You are so sweet" Appa tried to cajole her.
Leaving Appa at Amma's mercy, I sneaked towards our main door and peeped into the corridor that led to the Punjabi's house.
Amma was right. There was a lot of noise, chitter chatter and celebrations. Looked like some special guests had come.
Amongst the hullabaloo I heard some voices which I yearned to hear since we landed in Mumbai.
Yes! I heard some kids.
I literally jumped in excitement and without informing Amma Appa I was at the door of the Punjabis.
With a huge grin I stood at the door and watched the scene in front of me like watching my favourite cartoon.
I spotted 2 kids there which was like a double chocolate treat for me.
There was a cute little girl wearing a pretty pink frock and a matching hairband that had a frilly hat on the left.
She looked like a barbie doll to me.
Such a cute baby, I gushed mentally.
OK...I know I was a baby then too...But doesn't every kid call the other one a baby?
The other one was a boy.
A little taller than me, I could not see his face though.
His back was facing me and he was busy with some gadget which he was showing to the young Punjabi guy.
"Arre ye koun aya hai hamare ghar? Jannat ki koi pari to nahi?" asked a lady kneeling to my height.
I smiled at her.
"Apka naam kya hai beta?" she asked holding my chin.
"Mera naam Ishita Iyer hai"
"Kitna pyara naam hai"
"Apka naam kya hai?" I asked her.
She chuckled "Mera naam? Mera naam Santoshi Bhalla hai"
"Magar ye to boys ka naam hai. Aur aap to girl ho?" I was confused.
"Oh haan, maine to ye kabhi socha hi nahi. Lagta hai mere parents se galti hogayi" she said
"Aisa kaise ho sakta hai? Apke parents ko patha nahi ke aap girl ho?" I was still confused.
"Ermm...chalo unhi se poochte hain" she said turning towards the older Punjabi couple and asked "Dekho ye kya bol rahi hai. Aapne mujhe boys ka naam kyun diya?"
The older Punjabis looked confused too and they stared at each other for an answer. "Humse galti hogayi beta" they said helplessly.
"Aisa kaise ho sakta hai?" I increased their difficulty with my back to back questions.
Then suddenly the boy sprang from his uncle's lap and said "Ae mere nana nani se koi galti nahi hui. Galti tere se hui hai. Santosh boys ka naam hai aur Santoshiii girls ka. Samjhi na" he said pointing a finger towards me.
I went into deep thought for a while and then realised he was right. "Wow you are so smart" I appreciated him.
"Boys are always smart. Not dumb like girls" he said shrugging proudly.
I frowned becoming upset. 'Tareef ka jawab taane se. Akdu' I said in my mind.
"Raman aisa nahi bolte" Santoshi Aunty warned him.
"Aap to usi ki side logi na. You are also a girl so" he told.
How rude! I thought.
"Ramann...Bahut zaban chalne lagi hai tumhari" she scolded
"Haan Mumma. Bhai hamesha aise hi gandi batein bolte rehte hain" the little cute girl in pink frock added fuel to the fire.
So these two are Santoshi Aunty's kids and this is their maternal grandparent's house!
"Simmi tu chup kar. Tu kyun beech me bol rahi hai" Raman chided.
"Raman. Apni behen se aise baat karte hain?"
"Wo mujhse choti hai Mumma" he argued
"Choti hai to kya hua. Girls se hamesha respect se baat karni chahiye. Tumne aaj sare girls ko hurt kiya hai. Ab jaldi se sabko sorry bolo. Tum good boy ho naa" his Nani told him.
"Nanu bhi aapse respect se baat karte hain?" he asked innocently
"Haan beta" his Nanu responded.
"Aur Mama bhi?" he asked his uncle.
"Haan" his unce nodded.
"To phir theek hai. Mai bhi aaj se girls se respect se baat karunga" he said.
Hmmm...Itna bhi bura bhi nahi hai jitna mai soch rahi thi!
"To chalo sabse pehle usse respect se baat karo jisko tumne pehle upset kiya" Santoshi Aunty said.
He looked at me from where he was standing. Our eyes met for the first time. He had beautiful brown eyes which were captivating. I stared at him with my big black eyes innocently.
He walked towards me elegantly with an inscrutable expression. I did not know what to expect from him. I just stared at him.
He lifted his hand and I jerked back thinking he was going to slap me but
his hand stopped mid way.
I looked at his hand and then at his face.
He gave a killer smile that took my breath away and said: "Friends?"
I smiled a huge smile and shook his hand saying "Friends!"
Finallyyy! I had a friend now. And my happiness knew no bounds.
I mentally jumped and clapped in excitement.
Now I was found all the time at the Punjabi's house.
We played every game known to us.
But the problem arised whenever we decided to play team games.
We were only 3 and Simmi was adamant she would be in Raman's team which left me alone.
I didn't find her cute anymore...Ermmm...I mean she was cute but annoying.
Soon God was merciful on me and sent our next door neighbour to the colony. Their son Abhimanyu Raghav too joined us.
Now we were four: Raman, Simmi, Abhi and Me.
Abhi was 8 years old, Raman 7, Me 5 and Simmi 4.
So according to our ages we decided that Abhi and Simmi should be in one team and I would team up with Raman because 8+4=12 and 7+5=12.
Simmi still argued that she should team up with her brother, I guess her maths was too weak to understand the statistics.
Somehow Toshi (I called her that as it sounded more girly than Santoshi) Aunty convinced her that siblings could not be in one team. It sounded illogical to me, yet I accepted it because Simmi was convinced.
Amma was afraid that I would convert to Punjabi culture as I did everything exactly like they did.
She wanted to put a ban on my visits to the Punjabis but Appa came to my rescue and convinced Amma to let me play with the Punjabis.
Amma laid a condition that the Punjabis would come over to our place instead of me going there.
Neither of us had a problem with it and so we continued playing at my place.
Days went by and I and Raman became best of friends.
Then something happened which changed our equation from best friends to childhood sweethearts.
Raman's Mama had got a new camera and he decided to have a family photoshoot. I and Abhi were invited too as we had started to share a familial bond with them.
After shooting the family, it was kids turn to be shot.
Raman and Simmi were shot first and then me and Abhi were asked to join.
"Boys on the corner and girls in between" Mama said.
"Ok" I said and stood facing Simmi expecting her to leave her place for me as I wanted to stand with my partner, my team-mate and my best friend.
She as always refused to leave and created a ruckuss to stand by her brother. I was miffed but agreed as she had a valid point this time.
I stood next to her and then came Abhi squealing "Wow! Mai Ishu ke sath khada rahunga"
Raman glared at him and then at me.
Abhi just shrugged it off and stood on my left.
I asked Raman through my eyes what's wrong.
He nodded his head indicating nothing and forced a smile on his face.
I was still confused but then Mama's voice made me turn towards the camera.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Ek minute Mama" said Abhi.
"Kya hua?" he asked.
"Raman ne Simmi ke kandhe pe hath rakha hai. Mai bhi Ishita ke kandhe pe hath rakhunga" he said joyously.
"Great" said Mama.
The moment Abhi's hands landed on my shoulder, Raman withdrew his hand from Simmi's shoulder and said to Abhi bitingly "Apna hath nikalo Abhi"
"Rehne do na Raman. Aise achha lag raha hai. Tum bhi rakho" Abhi suggested.
"Maine kaha na hath nikalo" Raman yelled and pushed Abhi's hand away.
"Raman lad kyun rahe ho? Kya hua agar Abhi ne Ishita ke kandhe pe hath rakha to?" Mama scolded
"Nahi. Abhi Ishita ke kandhe pe hath nahi rakh sakta" he was firm in his stand.
"Kyun?" Mama asked
"Kyunki wo meri partner hai" he said.
"Wo to sirf khelne me tumhari partner hai" Mama tried to put some sense.
"Nahi. Wo har cheez me meri partner hai. Wo meri poore life ki partner hai" he yelled.
"Ye kya ho raha hai yahan pe? Itna shor kyun hai?" Toshi Aunty came out listening to the commotion.
She looked at every one. Raman's face was red in anger and he was holding his fists tightly.
"Raman tune hi kuch kiya hoga" she guessed.
Raman looked at her, then at me and walked away angrily.
"Raman" she called out but he didn't stop "Koi batayega hua kya hai?" she asked us.
We all were still unable to comprehend what had transpired and what made Raman so angry.
The eldest among us finally answered "Tere bete ne bahu dhoond li hai didi" Mama said chuckling.
"Kya? Kya bol raha hai tu?" Aunty asked.
"Haan didi. Kehta hai Ishita uski life partner hai aur kisi aur ko uske sath khade hone ka haq nahi" Mama exaggerated.
"Hey Bhagwan! Ye Raman bhi na" Toshi Aunty said slapping her forehead and laughing out loud.
I could not understand what was so funny about it.
"Apko koi aitraz to nahi na didi?" Mama asked still laughing.
Toshi Aunty kneeled down to my height and caresses my cheeks giving an air kiss "Inni soni bahu pe to mai waari jawan" she said breaking her knuckles at her temple.
"Bahu ka kya matlab hai Aunty?" I asked her.
"Bahu matlab bete ki biwi" she said.
"Biwi? Wo kya hoti hai?"
"Biwi matlab...ummm...Kisi bhi boy ki sabse best friend"
"Jaise mai Raman ki best friend hoon? Kya mai Raman ki biwi hoon?" I asked innocently
"Nahi beta. Ye wali best friend banne keliye shadi karni padti hai"
"Shadi karne se kya hotha hai?" I was eager to know.
"Shadi karne se ek boy aur girl jo best friend hain wo hamesha sath rehte hain. Jaise tumhare Amma aur Appa, aur jaise mai aur Raman ke Papa" she explained
"Agar meri shadi Raman se hui to kya hum donon hamesha sath rahenge?" I was suddenly excited about it.
"Haan bilkul"
"Phir Amma bhi mujhe nahi rokengi?"
"Nahi. Koi nahi rok sakta"
"Simmi bhi nahi?"
"Simmi bhi nahi"
"Sachhhi?"
"Muchhhiii"
"Yayyy!" I jumped and clapped
"Ishita tu bandar ki tarah nach kyun rahi hai?" Simmi asked with envy
"Kyunki mai Raman ki best friend hun. Mai hamesha uske sath rahungi. Tu bhi mujhe nahi ro sakti"
"Katti" Simmi said walking away. Like brother, like sister!
Aunty and Mama had a hearty laugh.
I was still jumping but Abhi didn't seem to like it. He went away sulking.
"Mai Raman ko batake ati hun" I told them and ran to Raman's favourite hide out.
He was folding his hands against his chest and sitting below the huge banyan tree behind our colony.
I sat beside him. He knew I was there but he didn't acknowledge.
"Naraz ho?" I asked.
"Haan" he said without looking at me.
"Kyun? Maine kya kiya?"
"Tum Abhi ke sath kyun khadi thi?"
"Kyunki Simmi ne jagah nahi chodi"
"To tum Abhi ko apna best friend bana logi?"
"Mai aisa kyun karungi? Mere best friend to tum ho"
"Lekin Abhi agar tumhara best friend ban gaya to?"
"Are buddhu! Aisa thodi na hoga. Mai to tumhari hamesha ki best friend hun. Abhi mujhe Aunty ne bataya ke mai tumhari biwi banungi phir hum hamesha saath rahenge"
"Sachhii?"
"Haan sach. Hum shadi karenge phir hamesha sath rahenge"
"Phir tum kabhi mujhe chod ke nahi jaogi"
"Nahi kabhi nahi"
"Wow" he said with a huge grin.
I smiled a big smile too.
"I Love you" he said kissing me on my cheek.
"Haww. Tumne mujhe kiss kiya? Boys girls ko kiss nahi karte"
"Arre pagal! Abhi to tumne kaha na ke hamari shadi hogi. Jiski shadi hoti hai wo boy girl ko kiss kar sakta hai"
"Tumhe kaise patha?"
"Papa Mumma ko aise hi I Love You bolke kiss karte hain. Papa ne hi mujhe bataya"
"Par mere Appa to aisa nahi karte"
"Karte honge tumne dekha nahi hoga"
"Ho sakta hai. Mai poochke ati hun" I said galloping towards my house.
"Arre Ishita! Ruko to. Mujhe chodke mat jao" he called out.
"Mai abhi ati hun. Tum wait karna" I screamed and marched towards my house.
"Appa aap Amma ko I Love You bolke kiss karte ho?" I asked Appa as soon as I spotted him.
"Kya?" he asked with wide eyes.
"Raman ne mujhe bataya ke jiski shadi hoti hai wo aisa karte hain. Isiliye Raman ne bhi mujhe I LOve You bolke kiss kiya?"
"Ishu! Ye kya bol rahi ho? Raman ne tumko kiss kiya?" Amma screamed
"Haan Amma. Ab hamari shadi hogi na" I told her excitedly
"Ayyoyyyo! Ye kisne bola tumko?" she glared
"Toshi Aunty ne" I informed
"Dekha Vishwa! Maine kaha tha na isko un Punjabiyon ke paas mat bhejo. Dekho kaise anaap shanaap batein sikha rahe hain" she scolded Appa
"Mazak me bol diya hoga Madhu" Appa tried to calm her down
"Don't try to defend them. Bachhon ke samne koi aisi batein karta hai kya? I am not going to tolerate this" Amma fumed
"Rehne do na Madhu"
"No Vishwa! Ab mai tumhari ek nahi sunoongi. Ishu aaj se tumhara un Punjabiyon ke sath khelna band. Samjhi na tum" she warned
"But Raman mera wait kar raha hai. Mujhe Raman ke paas jana hai" I cried
"Samajh me nahi araha maine kya kaha. Jao apne kamre me"
"No Amma. Mujhe Raman ke paas jana hai"
"Mujhse argue karogi?" she said slapping me hard and dragging me to my room.
She then locked me in my room and went away fuming.
"Mujhe Raman ke paas jaana hai" I kept repeating and crying loudly.
After about an hour I lost all my strength and quietly sulked. My eyes started getting heavier due to all the crying.
Few minutes later I felt a tap on my shoulder.
I had no strength left so I did not bother to turn around and look at the person.
"Ishita" I heard a soft voice and I immediately recognised.
"Raman" I said turning around.
"Shhh" he said sitting near me.
I hugged him tightly and cried on his chest.
"Amma ne maara?" he asked patting my shoulder.
"Hmmm" I said still in his embrace.
"It's ok. Ab mai agaya hun na" he said comforting me.
I suddenly realised that the door was still closed. How did he come in then?
"Tum andar kaise aye?" I asked looking at him
"Tumne yad kiya to agaya" he said shrugging
"Par kaise?" I asked
"Mere paas special power hai. Jab bhi tum yaad karogi mai aa jaunga" he said
"Mujhe bhi chahye wo special power" I demanded
"Ok. Then close your eyes and open it at the count of three"
"Ok" I said nodding enthusiastically
I closed my eyes and counted "One...Two...and three"
And...
I opened my eyes in the arms of Appa.
I looked around and realised that I had fallen asleep while crying and Appa had slept with me that night.
Then what about Raman?
It was a dream. Raman had a special power to come in my dreams.
I forgot all my pain and smiled because...
