you won't remember how you made it through,
how you managed to survive.
You won't even be sure, whether the storm is really over.
But one thing is certain.
When you come out of the storm, you won't be the same person who walked in.
That's what this storm's all about."
Haruki Murakami
This quote is one of my favorite quotes and somehow I related it to YHM, especially Raman as, for me, what is the most interesting aspect of a fictional character is where they stand each time in the aftermath of a storm that has blown them apart. And Raman from the beginning of YHM has grown bit by bit with each 'kaand' as a character who is as flawed as they come but what made him the protagonist is the part where with each of those mistakes, we witnessed a layer of the complex man peeling and that revelation made him an interesting watch and made him highly relatable. I am one of those who finds perfection too boring...it started in Mahabharata where amidst all the heroes, Karan was my favorite character ..this was way back in 4th grade. And for that reason RKB gradually became my favorite character in YHM.
And today I find an RKB who is kinda not balanced as a protagonist..and hence this post.
Raman has always been a person driven by his emotions...one track after another he has made mistakes in judgement based on that impulse: Kidnapping faux pas, DNA track,Accident track, Param , License track..to name a few...but the part that made it more interesting is each of those track ultimately revealed the inner working of Raman Bhalla and either he fixed his mistakes or emerged as a better individual after it.
Then the Mani track happened. I loved the track, the build up...yes it was hard to watch him go through so much trauma but at the same time we got a glimpse of what he's been through in the past to become such an insecure individual...and then he made one of those grave mistakes which a wife should never have to endure: threat of marital rape/molestation. I understood where he was coming from, Ishita also made several errors in that track... but then again that never justifies an error of that proportion ...and like always I was expecting a redemption/ conversation between them because these are two people who both had faced betrayal in their previous relationships...they needed closure here as it delved with their biggest insecurity: trust. But unfortunately nothing came.
And it heralded a switch in YHM, especially with Raman's sketch.
Now Raman still makes mistakes, feels guilty about them but the redemption or him fixing the mistake never comes. One track after another we're witnessing the same thing. And it has dis-balanced the male protagonist's sketch, the leads' equation and the whole balance of YHM...from a story chronicling the 'pal pal badti mohabbatein' of two unlikely individuals through their trials and tribulations...it has been turned into a story of mistakes, big and small and some in between but no redemption( no just investing 1/2 dialogues in the episode to apologize never fits the graveness of the mistakes). And we stand at a point where, like a few people in my thread pointed out, YHM gives no respite. It's losing its entertainment quotient.
From a person who used to enjoy even one scene of honest emotion...yesterday I saw one of the scenes which was a display of the sizzling chemistry of the leads but left us with nothing as where DivAn shone, Ishra failed. And that is the crux of YHM nowadays. Karan, Divyanka and the ensemble cast are game on in their portrayal of the characters but the storyline fails them over and over again. Surprising part is we see the same names in the credit that has been there since the inception of the serial when it comes to story, screenplay and the creatives...yet we see a glimpse of their brilliance only now and then...the consistency is missing. This is the same creatives who in the height of MU, intense track gave us moments like these to bear the intense long drawn accident track:

And until that consistency is back, YHM will continue to be a flawed story ,,,not one of flawed, human emotions like it used to be.
Please resurrect RKB...as the hero..as YHM is a story of BOTH Ishita and Raman...not about Ishita and Raman's mistakes.
Note: sorry for the LONG rant😳...just needed to get some thoughts out...as I can't continue with this negative mindset.
