His eyes lit up to my phrase and clumsily made an effort to sit up with sleeping legs. So typical of romi na di😃 i always liked romi... this guy s emotional... this remainds me of ruhi n shravu putting oinment for romi...he loves kids.. n he loves ru...raman n romi together hilarious here😆

Are We There Yet

"Just pack everything you own."

"W-wait what?", he nodded his head in astonishment.

"Did you not hear what I said?" I stated firmly, I wasn't in any mood for listening to his questions let alone answering them.

"Okay okay fine." He said in defense.

"Oh, and we also have to go shopping." I said casually.

"For what?"

"For clothes, duh." I imitated his sarcastic voice; it was just so fun to watch him puff his cheeks at the sight of me mocking his ways.

"Clothes for who?" He continued with his pointless interrogation.

"Do you think I'm in the mood to answer your stupid questions, we're going shopping because suddenly I want to go shopping any problem with that?"

"Nope." Romi said giving up.

***

The quiet chuckles filled the enclosed box on wheels while Romi sat behind us and stared our school girl selves with furrowed eyebrows and squinted eyes.

"What's so funny?" he asked lowly, as if he were afraid to interrupt our comical moment.

"Oh just that you have no idea that we're gonna basically sweep out any evidence of us living on the surface of the Earth." Mihir stated smiling looking at Romi's widened eyes from the rear view mirror. I loved how Mihir even during that time, when I was taking such a big risk with the situation, he stood by me, -either way if he did or didn't I still would've dragged him with me cause he knew about my plans- but how coolly he took it. I knew that he too at the back of his mind was doubting the success of The Plan but still, like I told him, "For this, we have to run like and with the wind."

Romi, on the other hand I was not so sure of. He might act like a rugged, toughed up man but that persona was all just for show. He wasn't the carefree Romi he always brought to the top, he too got concerned about when his grades were going down back when he was actually still in school.

I admit, even I pictured him to be a good-for-nothing frat boy later his true, bright colors seeped in from the dark stains of his callous personality.

"W-wait what?!" he almost screamed earning a disgusted glance from the passengers beside our car.

"You heard me bro." Mihir stated bluntly.

I slowed us down and eventually stopped beside a tree at on the deserted land and turned around to give a serious look to Romi, he had to be given a serious explanation to this.

"Romi, listen...remember how you told me you would do anything to meet your niece? And how you would stay by my side at every obstacle thrown at us throughout The Plan? And how..." I paused for Mihir to finish his "epic jazz hands" for the dramatic revelation. In my head I had already shot him three times but chose to let it slide as it would look fairly odd if fellow passer-by's saw me catching Mihir in a head -lock and Romi from the back-seat yelling "FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!"

"Romi, we're going to get your niece, and she will stay with us as long as you like...I promise. Now...I know this is a lot to take in, it was for me too when the idea popped in my brain too but I got used to-"

"Did you ask Ruhi?" he lightly mumbled.

"Wha- ask her? Romi I know she would take this very well, and you saw her face in the court too it showed her disinterest in living with Shagun."

"But have you ever thought about how scared would she be? Bhai! She's FIVE years old! How do you expect her to take it smoothly...wait, why am I thinking about her, I myself can't handle it! I mean, this is basically kidnapping!" he set his hands on the shoulders of the front seats.

"Romi, you just tell me now whether you want to be a part of this or you wanna ditch it? Because you, Mihir and I can go back, I thought of this for your wants of meeting your niece. Just say what you want, because we aren't going without you." I instantly regretted my over-sympathized comment on how we weren't going to go forward without him. My actual intention to not carry forward without him was because if I were going to go to jail, I was going to take that bugger with me. There's no way he was going to get away with that. And here I he might've been thinking how much I wanted his presence with my daughter and myself.

His eyes instantly pooled up, "Really?" He asked with his puppy eyes tilting his head forward.

I thought 'What the heck, he is my brother and if he's asking for a little attention, he can have it'.

"Yes." I said assuring him.

"Well what are we waiting for," Mihir interrupted raising his arms.

"Lezz go!" Romi switched back to his cute persona, the one I -now- had started to like.

***

"Are we there yet," Romi said, breaking the silence.

I sighed at his childish question, "No."

"Are we there yet,"

"No,"

"Are we there yet,"

"No,"

"Are we there yet,"

"No"

"Are we there yet,"

"No!", I couldn't handle his uselessness and stopped the car, placed my hands on the dashboard and repeatedly slammed my head on it so I could rid myself of this much stupid. After my dramatic outburst in the car, I coolly started the car again and proceeded to take us forward when... "Where are we going?"

"Ahh!!"I scrunched up my fists in my hair trying to calm myself down while Mihir placed a hand on Romi's mouth to shut him up before any future accidents occurred.

"Son, we'll tell you later." Mihir said soothingly.

"Don't call me that!"

***

I placed my hand on the rusted door knob turning it to reveal a small yet beautifully furnished home.

"Mihir, this is- amazing!" Was all I could say, we were supposed to be part of a kidnapping and here he brought us to a paradise.

"I know, I know." Mihir said raising his palms calmly taking in the appreciations.

And then Romi happened, "Why are we here?"

How could he be so, so SO STUPID.

"We're going to live here with Ruhi, you dumbass!" I smacked the back of his head when moments later started shaking it to get the excessive and unwanted hair gel off of my hand.

"Ohh." He hummed in realization, this boy, seriously.

"Well so, when are we going to -like you know, take Ruhi."

"Soon," We came here just so we could settle down a little first, but I'm telling you -don't get used to this place much; we'll have to be on the run."

"For how long?" Romi's voice was doing that-that thing again, that annoying sympathetic thing.

"That's a question you'll never have the answer to, son." To which he huffed and stomped his feet to the other room.

***

"Are you sure of this, bhai?" Romi asked questionably, placing a hand on my shoulders.

"Yes, it's the only way I can be close to my princess." I stated firmly, she was mine, not Shagun's, mine.

"But don't you think you're getting a little possessive of her," He was trying to keep peace between us by not saying anything in an intimidating tone, "I mean like -have you even thought of her life, like what is she going to do with you in this tiny house?" He moved closer sitting beside the sofa on the cold wooden ground.

"Because let's be real, when she is -kidnapped she'll be-"

"This is not a kidnapping, she's my daughter, I have rights." I deadpanned.

"Okay, when she's -taken, she won't be able to be like the normal kids, like play outside or go to school. Her missing posters will be hung up everywhere, all across India since this'll be such a big media thing. She will never be able to step out of these walls." He said glancing at the door that leads outside, green leaves visible in the corner of the glass on the door.

"A kid need friends, freedom, play in his life, you can't just take that away from her with the justification that she's your daughter and you have rights to contact her. She'll be here alright, far away from the world with no contact to her mother, but...bhai, she won't be happy."

That was the first time he had said such deep lines, he was right -for the first time- , I was taking away her happiness just to satisfy my own. But I didn't want to ruin her life, I just wanted to make mine better.
