SURAKSHA CHAKRA ...
Dunno why the Colgate ad came popping into my mind as I started writing this post ... A family hugging each other & the red circle going around them with the cross line ... YEH HAI HUMARA SURAKSHA CHAKRA ...
A whole lot of us grew up to this add .. the jingle still resonates in our minds ... & from some deep reaches of the mind this is the jingle & image that popped in my head the moment I heard Ishita's dialog ...
We are Indians ... In India 2 families marry .. not just two individuals ...
That one single statement encompassed all that the future track would bring to us ... but it also gave an insight into many situations & characters that we saw in YHM till date ...
The answer to this dialog was answered the very next moment by Raman .. when he spoke to himself about Ishita ... SHE HAS A CARE FOR EACH & EVERY FAMILY MEMBER OF MINE ...
It's the circle of love ... & in the circle of love one cant stand ALONE ... That's not what our culture or any culture for that matter teaches u ...
Tonite before I write about the episode ... My last post was entitled " The tale of Two Women" ... where the 2 women in question were Shagun & Ishita ...
My post was a bit preemptive ... coz what we got on the Rakhi episode was the BEST EVER CONTRAST on these 2 women ... As witnessed by the ONE MAN IN THEIR LIVES ... RAMAN ...
Lets go to the Rakhi episode ...
Ishita first of all makes Raman aware that Ruhi needs to bond with her brother .. she forces Raman out of lethargy & makes him realize his responsibility towards both his kids ...
Pause here a moment ... Go back to the episode where after that party she sat on a bench with him & poured her heart out .. she promised him that day .. the day u slip in ur duty towards ur kids .. I will remind u ... A promise she upheld that day on rakhi ...
Then she goes off to make Sweetmeats for her beloved Ruhi & the family ... While making the sweetmeats ... she is made aware of the fact that Adi may not like jalebis .. & prefers gulab jamuns .. so she makes the same for him ...
Then when Raman comes to inform an excited Ruhi of no Adi rakhi occasion .. she quickly comes up with a better plan .. if mountain aint coming to muhammed ..muhammed will go to mountain ... & off they go to Khanna house .. a house where the people who resided there had just done such a heinous act towards her ...
Then she stands tall & makes Ruhi do the whole Rakhi tying process with all fanfare ... & finally gifts Adi with the box of Gulab Jamuns ...
All this bore one witness ... RAMAN ...
Now on the other side of the equation stood Shagun ... From the morning she was informed about Rakhi & that she would have to take Adi to Ruhi ...
Pause here .. when she is having that convo with Raman she is actually indulging in a manicure ... What a studied difference from the other woman who was making sweetmeats for the same siblings ...
Then she gave into a small coercion from her boyfriend ... who told her to drop all these archaic customs ... & entertain his guest ... All because a third party cast a pall over her plans to marry Ashok ...
Pause here a moment as well ... The woman who is a mother at that moment was NOT A MOTHER .. she was just SHAGUN ARORA ... a selfish woman .. who once again to GET WHAT SHE WANTS ... SACRIFICED HER KIDS ...
Now lets go the rakhi sequence ...
Ruhi ties a rakhi to Adi ... Shagun asks Adi to give ruhi a gift .. he says he was unaware of Ruhi coming to do the ritual hence dint have anything to give her ... pause here a moment ... he is all of 12 .. which 12 year old kid knows what to buy for a 6 year old girl ..
Shagun steps up & takes out her chain & gives it to Adi to gift to ruhi ... attaching some sentimental value to the exchange ...
& on the other hand Ishita hands over the box of hand made gulab jamuns to Adi .. the camera pans on Raman's face ..who has an incredulous expression on his face
Now pause here a moment ...
This was the one of those ICONIC moments of YHM ... Here was one woman Ishita .. who understood relations & family ... who slaved over the morning to bring about a smile on the face of those 2 kids .. who figured what the kid wanted & gave that child the same thing ... the personal touch .. the thinking the caring shone thru ... That was a MOTHER ... a woman who knew what is the meaning of the word MOTHER ... a woman who knew what it was to LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY ...
On the other hand there was SHAGUN ... one can never doubt the love of a mother so am not gonna do that ... but this love while being there has a very strong streak of SELFISHNESS ... A mother who could not find it in her to look for a gift for her daughter .. to be gifted by her brother on their FIRST RAKHI ... something which would mark this occasion for what it was MOMENTOUS ...
she did hand over a chain which had sentimental value to her ... But once again the gift smacked of materialistic sentiments ... It fell short of the real sentiments ... is it any wonder that the PUREST HEART in this equation ... that of RUHI's .. fails to connect with SHAGUN ...
I saw read & discussed a plethora of posts .. each wanting to talk about WHY RAMAN saved SHAGUN ... Just take a moment to think ...
YHM is full of such iconic moments like the rakhi sequence .. which we forget in our hurry to wonder what will happen in the future track ... In our worry or apprehension of a future track what we miss is SOME OF THE MOST HALL MARK moments in the show ...
This particular sequence in the show has far more connect .. with the past & the future of the show than Raman saving Shagun ...
This is the beginning of the NEW TRACK ... & the writers were laying base of all characters ... & last night the MOST IMPORTANT CHARACTERS were placed ...
What we got was ... Shagun the SELFISH MOTHER .. who can abandon her own kids to further her own ambition ... has she not done this in the past as well ..when she left RUhi to go stay with Ashok .. ????
Ishita the selfless mother who will do whatever it takes to bring a smile on the face of the CHILD OF HER HEART ... RUHI ... has she not done this in the past as well .. when she married a man she detested for the sake of RUHI .. ????
Raman ... the man in the centre of this whole plot ... there were 2 women in that room .. both women he loved ... one who taught him to hate love .. one who taught him the real meaning of love ... ONE who broke his family .. one who not only has joined his family ... but one who is nurturing his family ...
Once again I would like to hand it over to the writers of the show .. what subtlety in writing .. what deep thots .. & what a brilliant way to show the CONTRAST between the 2 women ...
BOTH know love .. BOTH LOVE ... but one has a SELFLESS LOVE ... ONE HAS A SELFISH LOVE ...
In tonites episode ... once again we saw the contrast between the 2 women highlighted ...
In a glittering dance event .. Raman stepped up to a fallen Shagun & told her .. EVERY TASK U LEAVE INCOMPLETE ... theres ONE WOMAN WHO COMPLETES IT ...
Tonite Ishita completed yet another task of Shagun's ... she tied rakhi to her brother ... she was offered the world in return from her new found brother ... but all she asked was ... hope ur family is reunited ... on the other hand the sister ... all she did was send a rakhi ... not bothering to figure if the brother wore it or not ... Unlike Ishita she did not even march to the brothers house & get him to wear his rakhi ... & whats more ... all her focus on this day of siblings was the Diamond bracelet the man of the hour in her life presented her with ...
Could these 2 women be any opposite ...
before i write about the rakhi @ bhalla house ... let me take a moment to talk about another of my fav characters ... Shagun ...
I have often written at the end of each post ..look out for Shagun ... have called her the vamp on numerous occasions so my sentiments on her are kinda clear ... am so glad the writers did not massacre this character ... SHAGUN is selfish .. SHAGUN is shallow ... SHAGUN is a USER ...
Is it any wonder that she has selfish, shallow & users surrounding her ...
