Hello All, let me introduce myself. My name is Bhanu and I am usually a silent reader of this forum. But, thanks to the Shagun track, I got so depressed, that my mind decided to become and ostrich and royally ignore Shagun track altogether. Instead, it went into Ishra land and came up with a lot of "What Ifs?" This is one such version of my thoughts penned down. As per this track, the accident mystery was resolved and Param is culprit and is right now in jail. If you like Param (:-P), then you are free to think the mystery is not solved ... both ways, this fiction stays clear of the Amma accident altogether.
Lastly, please remember, I have never ever written anything and this is my first shot at something and am literally too nervous to post it ... so please read it once and give me your honest opinion on the same. Originally meant to be a One Shot, I have broken it down into a Short Story as I realized it will be for the best.
Thanks .
Tick Tick Tick Tick. 3:21 AM. Raman looked at his watch hopelessly yet again for the tenth time as sleep evaded him. They had called it a night over three hours ago but sleep seemed to be a foreign entity to him today. Turning over, he looked at the sleeping frame of Ishita on the couch. She looked like an angel with the soft moon bestowing its light on the sweet angel. He slowly walked over near her couch; leaned forward and whispered more to himself than her ... "I promise Ishita. I will bring back happiness in your life. You will be happy. I promise. I promise. " With this, he turned around to get back to his bed only to turn back and whisper "And haan ek aur baat ... pata nahi mai ye kabhi tumhe kahunga ya nahi ... par jaanti ho ye sab mai kiske liye karunga ... "Sirf Tumhare Liye".
As he came back and settled in his bed, he was fully aware of one, very obvious fact ... That something between them had changed that nite and although he was just reluctant and too stubborn to accept it ... it was going to affect and change his life rather both of their lives ...
2 days ago ... sometime during the evening ...
Raman had come back from work contently enjoying his tea while Toshiji was narrating about her day to him. Suddenly, Amma walked in with a beautiful envelope in her hands.
"Namaste Amma. Aayiye andar aayiye. Kaise ho aap ? Aapki tabiyat to theek hai?" Raman enquired from his mother in law.
"Mai theek hoon beta. Mera health ab dheere dheere better ho raha hai. Raman, Ishita clinic se aa gayi kya ?" Amma enquired enquisitively.
"Nahi Samdhan ji. Abhi nahi aayi. Kuch emergency operation karna pada hai use to aaj late ho jayegi. Phone aaya tha uska." Aap baithiye mai coffee banwati hoon. Toshi ji added.
"Nahi nahi Coffee nahi. Thank you. Abhi mujhe Vishwa ke liye dinner banana hai ... bahot late ho gaya aaj to ... mai sirf Ishu ko ye envelope dene aayi thi ... Vo uske college se aaya hai ... maloom nahi kya hai ... 2 din se rakha hua hai par mujhe yaad hi nahi rehta ... mujhe lagta hai ki mai old age me bhoolna shuru ho gayi hoon" Amma added worriedly .
"Of course, budape me aisa hi hota hai ... specially agar sirf idly dosa khao saari zindagi ... Punjabiyon ki tarah chicken mutton khao and dekho kaise meri tarah fit and fine ho jaoge".
Amma eyes widened and was about to retort when Raman sensing the dangerous turn this conversation was taking immediately got up and took the envelope from Amma and added "Amma, vo Appa ke liye dinner banana tha na aapko. Aapne decide kar lia kya? And aap tension mat lo, mai yaad se Ishita ko ye envelope de dunga."
Amma looked at the watch and totally forgot to retort to Toshiji, blabbered hurriedly "Aiyyo mai to aaj bahot hi late ho gayi ... Raman beta main jaati hoon; please Ishu ko ye envelope de dena."
As soon as she was gone, Raman gave a look to his mother who was proudly smirking as if she was holding the FIFA world cup in her hands. Shaking his head, Raman entered his room and casually placed the envelope on the table.
Few hours later, a visibly tired Ishita both from the surgery and the relentless traffic home due to sudden showers entered the Bhalla house and crashed on the sofa. Everyone had slept she noticed but for the small light which was coming from her room. Raman was awake. Tired, she got up to freshen up and crash on the bed. The surgery was of a child who had unfortunately met with an accident and she was their along with a team of other surgeons and therefore had dinner with them before leaving the clinic.
"Aa gayi tum. Kaisi thi surgery. Itni late tak kiske daant tod rahi thi .. Dekho uske dard pe bhagwaan pe aansu baha raha tha ... tabhi to bahar baarish ho rahi thi ". Raman looked up from his file sensing her presence and retorted.
Ishita eyes widened and she angrily answered, "Ek bacha tha chota sa. Accident ho gaya tha uska. Kaafi chot lagi hai face pe."
"Oh. Ab kaisa hai vo" Raman immediately asked forgetting his satirical taunts concerned about the little child.
"Ab better hai. Heavy sedation pe hai par out of danger hai. Multiple fractures hai. Kaafi time lagega usko recover hone me. But thankfully, kuch internal injury nahi hui hai to theek ho jayega with time." She added and yawned heavily. "Mai change kar leti hoon. Bahot neend aa rahi hai."
Raman nodded and went back to his file. Ishita quickly took a shower and changed into her night dress and went to the couch with her pillow and quilt. It is then she noticed the beautiful cream colored envelope lying on the table. She immediately picked it up and asked "Ye kya hai ?".
Raman looked up from his file and quickly added "Are haan. Amma ne ye sham ko tumko dene ke liye kaha tha. Ye tumhare college se kuch aaya hai."
"Mere College se. Kya ho sakta hai ?" Ishita immediately opened it enthusiastically and started reading it. Suddendly, Raman noticed a change in her stance, her eyes had a faraway look.
"Kya hai", curious, Raman asked. "KYA HAI?" he asked a little louder, when he found her frozen to the spot. " Ishita, suddenly came back from the trance masked her emotions immediately and answered with a half-hearted smile, "Vo kuch important nahi hai ... college reunion hai 2 din ke baad usi ka invitation hai."
There was something in his eyes which made him curious. It was there for only some time; but it was definitely there. Fear, Nervousness. What made her feel like this? Suddenly, his inner self scolded himself. Since when did Raman Bhalla in his sane mind read Jhansi ki Rani's eyes and be worried. Remember, "Sirf Ruhi ke liye". He mentally scolded himself for that and immediately came back to hi Ravan Kumar mode more to shield his inner thoughts than get a rise from her.
"Kya hua? Itna ghabra kyu gayi vahan jaane ki soch ke ? Dar rahi ho ki jis professor ko maar peet ke ye degree tumne haasil ki thi, kahin vo mil gaya aur usne tumhara raz khol dia to? Ya fir, I know know the real reason now, reunion me jaogi to mujhe ye sachai pata chal jayegi na ki tum hamesha se hi itni MOTI ho ... log hairan reh jayege ki tum kitna khati hogi maintain karne ke liye . " He patted himself for coming up with such a retort.
Ishita who seemed to be lost in her thoughts immediately got back to the world and retorted. "Kuch bhi. Mai tumhari tarah nahi hoon. Kitni mehnat lagti hai doctor banne ke liye, tumhe kya maloom. Aur haan, mai moti nahi hoon."
"Of course, tum moti nahi ho. Aur London Antartica ki capital hai. Dono baatein ek dam sach hai." He said with a straight face only he was capable of managing.
Ishita fuming with anger now but unable to come up with a retort stomped her foot, cursed him in Tamil and lied down on the couch. A few seconds later, she got up and retorted, "Aur haan. Mai vahan jaane me darti nahi hoon. And as you know, it is reunion with family. Isliye, do din baat ki date mark kar lo. You do need to see the royal world of doctors Ravan Kumar. Gud Nite"
"Doctors nahi Dentists." He added quickly and smiled at her Tamil outburst again. Content with his retorts, he also lied down on the bed and quickly sent an email to his secretary from his phone. "Cancel all my appointments in the evening after two days and add private event in my calendar".
Putting his phone down, he closed his eyes and soon the sleep had engulfed his tired mind and body.
