Raman's mom liked Shagun's pic or what have you and Shagun and her family came over to Raman's house for rishta etc (I think end of Dec 13th episode or whatever the episode with Ruhi's lice problem shows this flashback). You can hear Shagun's mom saying that Shagun is so beautiful and that Shagun wanted to go into modelling or something but Shagun's parents want her to get married to an employed man "kamaane wala ladka". Raman was sort of a dweeb back then and he sat on the dining table getting a drink of water and trying to catch a glimpse of Shagun, who was in the sitting area partially blocked by a brigade of aunties. And he saw her and she saw him and smiled and he smiled like a dork/lovestruck fool. And thats the moment he 'fell in love' with her.

And of course, I guess the rishta was made and they got married.

No mention was made of Mihir at the time nor his relationship to Shagun. As far as I know, no one has outright said that Mihir is Shagun's brother. Apparently neither Shagun nor Mihir have any other family.

But its also funny because Raman did mention to Ishita that his and Shagun's mutual friends (like the friend from the Valentine's Day party) were all college buddies so perhaps they had a dual connection?

I'm not sure. I had seen a post on the forum, where the member said that there was an article in the beginning, that mentioned Mihir as Shagun's brother.

Yeah I've seen alot of articles and posts too saying that Mihir is Shagun's brother and before the accident track (when they started saying that Mihir had a bad motive to stick with Raman) apparently he's Raman's chamcha b/c he's his saala and b/c he stayed with Raman during Shagun/Raman divorce. But from the best of my knowledge, I haven't seen this stated explicitly in the show.

There were times, like when Shagun saw Mihir and Trisha dancing in the rain and was hurt he never introduced the lady in his life to her; also when she got excited to hear about Mihir's engagement; when she told Ashok that she thought Mihir was unhappy with the engagement; and when she tried to help Mihir bandage his wound during the engagement-sangeet - that all implied that they have some familial/sibling tie.

But I don't think anyone in the show has stated it directly yet.

Also, OP you should definitely watch all the episodes from the beginning. I'm just like you; I watched the first week and then didn't watch until late January/the wedding episodes. I think its because I don't have the patience to go through the first 2-3 weeks, in which only the characters are being set up rather than doing any action much.

But I caught up with the December/Jan episodes this past week and boy oh boy, were they something! You get to see Raman-Ishita's initial uneasy acquaintanceship, how their neutrality was soured, Shagun's entry, Ishita's past, Raman's past, and of course, Ruhi and Ishita's first meeting/lovestory. Not to be missed out on - especially now that you can just skip through the boring parts!

I'd suggest desirulez or desi-tashan to watch them.
