In y'day's episode Raman couldn't understand Ishita's logic behind gifting Param at the ceremony (the damadh who mooches off others for a living will expect it, jane dho).
The problems with making promises and taking oaths to protect and depend another adult is that sometime or another a situation arises where it is put to the test where one's one self-respect and values are put to the test in a big way. Ishita can stand all she wants by Simmi's side to ensure her happiness but if Simmi is bent on being a miserable person who hasn't a second thought about backstabbing her brother and his wife all because they exposed her husband's vile character, Ishita will be the loser on many levels while she compromises her own integrity in the process.
Raman seems more sensible with normal reactions and logic behind his reasoning like real life..
