It's a new beginning for them both...towards a better and strong relationship...a step which will lead to a blissfully journey together.

Also loved Raman's sensitive side...was too natural of the character. To forgive is easy...but to forget it takes a lot of time...and you have sketched it brilliantly. Enjoyed your story immensely.
Thank you. 😃

Hey Elita thank you so much. 😃

@bold - i am so glad you found the end apt, like you said they are in need of a friend very badly and it is with this friendship that they will build a stronger foundation that is essential for their marriage and future 😳

Just read the whole story and I was totally floored. Glad you focused on Ishita's pain, something that hasn't been brought to light till now. She always tries to divert her mind with work whenever she is hurt, she bottles up her emotions and never lets it affect anyone around her. Just waiting for the day when she finally lets the emotions out of her.

Edited-

Ok i'm not too sure where to start so I'm going to apologise because I might just sound like I'm rambling and literally darting around- it's only because I am completely floored by your final part.

Aww thats so sweet of you to say Uz 😊

You lended Ishita such depth that is yet to be shown on screen. I agree with you when you say that there is 'less' to go in respect of her actual feelings re: the heartbreak she has suffered in the past.

I have to say Divz deserves the whole credit for this - her performance in that single episode where Ishita -Subu story was in focus, she displayed a gamut of emotions and underplayed them. She wasn't being a raging hellcat but rather a very subdued heartbroken girl with conviction, who has an underlying anger simmering underneath her pain. It was a very understated performance and that made me write what I did 😳

Raman's eagerness to let her know that he is her 'friend' and can be her sounding board was so endearing and its the Raman i know we will see more of onscreen (fingers crossed). The inner turmoil that she is faces when he questions her about Subbu, yes she has opened herself up to Raman, she is vulnerable more than perhaps she realises herself. However, to date she still had a lid on things when it came to Subbu and her own heart break. She doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve like Raman.

Yep Raman once he gets to know of things cant help himself, esp if he thinks he can help someone and with Ishita he is finding it hard to back off these days, The problems of her family are his as well now, this man who had said he would have nothing to do with her - that she would be only Ruhi' mom has invested himself in this marriage wholeheartedly and so its natural he wont be able to even tolerate the idea she is in pain. But at the same time I see him as a novice when it comes to the matters of the heart. He himself admitted so during the engagement day scenes with Mihir - that he failed over there, so I had him fumbling and nervous here 😳 and she def is the deeper one of the two - still waters run deep as they say 😳

I somewhat imagine her love to have been a more 'practical' kind- i don't know if that makes sense. I guess what I'm saying is that she is a logical person whereas Raman to date tends to rely on emotion more.

You know this may be true, I cant rem but I read this in some post that she finds Bala such an ideal, that she projected the same qualities on his bro and perhaps found the guy worthy and hence fell for him, so that is true - her love might have been practical in that regard. Raman of course is very volatile - so yes he is the more emotional one of the two, even if he may find solutions to all the problems, there are times when he fails to process things calmly like she does, like when he recently almost beat up Romi

Again this is just my views on her based on what we have been shown so far- Ultimately when there is acknowledgment and reflection of their feelings for one another i know they will mirror each other completely. (i've just realised that I must sound like I'm obsessed with mirrors and reflections😆)

😆 😆 no problem with the obsession you have a SS- Mirror Mirror too after all which is beautiful by the way... jokes apart I agree with the bold bit

i'm also glad that you didn't show Raman wanting to 'fix' Ishita. All of which goes hand in hand with the character that has been portrayed onscreen. He wants to understand her, be there for her and fundamentally he wants to stand by her side always.

You know Uz there is no fixing people, you can heal them or help them but not fix them - its my belief 😳 also, Raman trying to fix her would mean he is demeaning her as if she is some faulty equipment and not a person, a human being - him extending his help, wanting to heal her would be a sign of respect and understanding - that says yes I know this pain let me share it with you.

Aani thank you for such an incredible journey- Beneath the Surface was truly a joy to read and your words have resonated deeply🤗

Thank you Uz for being a part of the journey and all your comments 🤗 Readers like you always encourage and inspire me to write more and better myself as much as poss each time 😊

I am not one of the disappointed ones Aani, and I am not just saying it. I think you'll know when you read my comments fully.😊

Thank you Lucky 😃

You have left it at a crucial juncture yes, but anything you could have said in continuation would really have been a figment of your imagination and may not have resonated with us when we actually got the background from the show.

yep the exact reason i left it here, we dont know the abc' here to assume things would have been idiotic not to mention I had no idea where to take this forward as well because of that 😳

Now, about the update. It doesn't seem enough nowadays to say "wonderful" There has to be something more superlative. I will find that word one day.👏

☺️ ... thank you

Although you haven't delved into Ishita's past. You have given us detailed description of her pain. Irrespective of what her background story is, the fact is , she is a heart-broken woman. And Raman has realised that.

like I wrote in my Author' note when I began - this story is about Raman realizing he isnt the only heartbroken betrayed soul here... he may not get her story but he can surely see her pain here 😳 Its high time that happens on the show too

On first reading, this story seems devoid of Ishita, because she doesn't say much. But thats not true is it? This is Ishita's story, just told by Raman, thats all.

Exactly... he is narrating the tale in the show... like I have said time and again to you the makers have made him, his POV the narration - so I thought why not use the same approach here - he is taking the route he did in this OS because its how he is - he processes things, the first chapter established the concept of masks, how everyone wears them - the second was how he learned more about them and how his myths lay shattered at his feet, the third was him learning of the different kinds of masks once again by people close to him BUT also getting that the world isn't entirely devoid of goodness and good people, the fourth naturally was what made him NOTICE Ishita' mask finally and the fifth was his way to let her know.. how he is there for her. 😳

He has aptly guessed the anger, the pain she holds for her past. He relates to her more than she knows. She seems him as a bitter man angry at his ex, but he too is a lonely man with a wonderful heart, just like you said. I remembered the quote I put the last one, about how a man's face is is autobiography and a woman's face is her work of fiction. That is so true with these too.

Yep he has been shown as a perceptive man who is practical and yet very emotional too so one chance to see Ishita' pain was enough for him to get the idea of it. And slowly even Ishita is waking up to the fact that behind the prickly exterior lies a man with a heart of gold 😳 and yep the Wilde quote aptly suits these two - autobiography and fiction at work here 😳

Now, coming to Raman... WOW. How he has grown. Not because he realised her pain, he was always a perceptive man. But because he found the confidence and the belief. Courage to talk to her, because he knows that he'll have to bare his own soul to comfort her. and Belief in their relationship. In spite of the circumstances that brought them together, he wants this relationship to have a solid base for the future. He sees her as an equal component of his future, not just as Ruhi's mother (and you were right when you replied to my earlier comments, this is sooo not about Ruhi or motherhood) but as his partner in life.

like i already said... he is perceptive and yep...somewhere I find him wanting more from this relationship - like he recently asked her on the night walk scene whether she was looking excuses to spend time with him or last night when he asked her if she stayed hungry for him... he wants some sign from her and I suppose so does she - that the want more from this marriage now but both of them are scared and vulnerable in their own ways. Only he is more forthcoming about in albeit in a teasing way..

Here's to the end (or pause) of another excellent short story from you Aani!!!👍🏼

I got 2 drastically different quotes for you today 😉

"What is a friend? A single soul dwelling in two bodies." - Aristotle

Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. "Pooh?" he whispered.
"Yes, Piglet?"
"Nothing," said Piglet, taking Pooh's hand. "I just wanted to be sure of you." - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

Aww thanks once again and cute quotes😊 esp the Aristotle one - isnt this what a marriage is - a friendship where one soul dwells in two bodies 😳

And Aani, even this SS was amazing. You have to be back with another one. Sorry, I wasn't able to comment on the second last chapter,😔, but I was not well and I wasn't online but that chapter was amazing too. Raman had to know how broken Subbu had left Ishita...I'm going to either kill him, or his mum...😡

Hey Shona hope you are doing well now take care of yourself 😊

Thanks so much for this comment I am so delighted you liked this SS so much and yes... they both learned a little bit more about each other in this SS - he learned she too is in pain and she learned that he was never at fault in his previous relationship 😳

As for killing him or his mom... hmm if he hadnt left Ishu would IshRa have happened? So spare him, his mom... kill her 😆😆

Personally, this chapter is my favourite in Beneath the Surface SS since brought some closure to Ishita regarding to Subbu's matter and it's had also covered the most vital issue which is for Ishu to realise that she is entitled to grief and feel angry (basically to experience all emotions that makes us human beings). The best part is it is her beloved Ravan Kumar, who had taught and encourage her to be free from those bitter emotions and only then she can really start her life afresh. Otherwise if she doesn't grief or express her feeling then in a sense she wouldn't be able to move on fully because physiologically thinking is that she hadn't acknowledge and recognise that this subbu chapter in her life is closed. It's was very maturely written and really hope to see something like this in the show.

Hi Mary thank you so much for the comment and its okay as always wish you luck for the exams.

@bold - yep. thats a very vital reason I want this chapter to reopen in Ishita' life - she needs closure and a proper one, one which allows her to feel all the emotions she has suppressed all this time because unless and until she lets it all out - in terms of anger or tears she is not gonna be able to move on, she needs to get rid of this burden she carries, Somewhere though she understands what made Subu do what he did, and perhaps that even makes her feel guilty as she thinks its her inability that came in the way of her happiness, it doesnt mean she isnt angry with the man who couldnt even look her in the eye when he decided to end things... perhaps the anger isnt regarding the break-up as much as it has to do with HOW it happened.

And ur detailing hats off.

Hey Shalu thank you so much 😊

Loved the way u ended it. Really Ishu's character is really intriguing. She has never shown her inner feelings or hurt openly, she always hide it or as u mentioned worked it off. As i read in ur note abt 6th dec episode, it reminded me of episode in which IshRa get custody of Ruhi n how Shagun accuses n insult Ishu there too she went silent n Aftr coming home she was angry n again diverted all her energy in cooking. As Raman mentioned in ur OS, JKR only takes out her frustration n anger on her Ravaan Kumar😆😉.
Yep the turmoil Ishita carries fascinates me and yep I rem that scene too but I mentioned the 6 dec one because it was regarding Subu and in the same episode too. And yep somehow since Ishu had a rocky start with Raman, she is more expressive of her anger with him... plus Ishu wants to keep a lid on herself for others.. somehow she has made Raman an exception to the rule, which even she hasnt picked up on yet 😳

I dont know whether Cvs are purposely delaying to show Ishu's feeling n pain as they have planned something special or is it a totally slip from their side.
Regarding Ishu's first reaction here in ur OS i really loved it how she said her past doesn't matter or important to her n her present matters to her more. i loved this part. It was very sensible. N it can be true also Bcoz IMO we too deal with past like this n move forward.

Well I hope they do cos not only will it be one hell of a twist but it will finally allow us to move beyond the age old terrible trio in a way I hope and yes... in a way Subu doesnt matter to her anymore but it doesnt mean he isnt integral to her story... and while saying I have moved on is easy, doing that is a different thing completely. Ishu needs closure, she needs some vent regarding this matter, Yes she is exploring different sides of Raman lately, there is an obvious attraction from both the ends which they are trying hard to deny but that doesnt mean its progress entirely 😳

But afterwards U made her say that she is not ready. So, I definitely see, she is caring her own scars too.

exactly - opening up wounds is not easy and that too with someone you barely know, yes Raman is her husband now, but he is also a man she met mere months ago, not to mention the fact... they still are learning each other

I will be waiting when in show they give u oppurtunity to peep in heart of this character n we will get to read more from u on This.
Also i loved this line Of Ishu "Everyone doesn't react to his or her ex..." Though she apologised instantly. I know Raman is in process of healing But I m waiting for the day when Raman will be totally indifferent to Shagun. Even though he hates her she does affect him. But this time in sangeet party initially she provoked him n he reacted to it. I know that day will also come when she won't affect him at all. I dont know my rambling is making any senses. Sorry i am not good in expressing myself in writing.
N also sorry for typo error as i m commenting from ipad. Will do d correction when I will get access to my PC.
don't know when will Ishu open up but with ur n forum's other writers influence i am definitely improving in writing my post😆 Not sure abt content but atleast length
Its always a pleasure to read from u be it ur OS or any post.

thank u Anni for this wonderful OS n big🤗To u
@bold: tried to minimize them. edited.

no need to be sorry about the length Shalu and yes Raman needs to be indifferent to Shagun no matter how much she provokes him but the truth is its not possible she is the mother of his children and has his son with her, so he just cant let go 😳
