I agree with you that the Iyyers have been shown as a set of people who give lots of importance to education. And am really happy with this aspect about them. But it has never been shown that the Bhalla' do not value education or lack the understanding of its importance. Instead of pointing to the family as a whole, its necessary to individually evaluate the priorities of each person.Romi doesn't really seem to be very much involved with his studies.Fair enough if he is not enjoying what he is forced to study. There are soo many youngsters out there who out of parental and societal pressures choose those branches in which they are least interested and all that they do is to just manage to pass through the exams for the sake of a degree. The youngest sister of Raman seems to be very well mannered and sober and it can be assumed that she might be doing pretty well in her studies. And Simi seems to be far away from being educated. Each person has got his own characteristics, his likes and dislikes and his own priorities.Just by owning a degree or passing the societal standards of education,a person doesn't actually get called as educated. The Iyyers were not behind in taunting the Bhallas in the earlier episodes of the show. There was one particular scene where Romi after coming to know that Mrs.Iyyer was the one who locked up his mother during the Lohri celebrations,he calmly asks her to not to bother telling the truth to anyone as it would only add create more problems for her.I felt that to be a highly matured act by him.As far as arrogance, pride etc is concerned,I feel that the Iyyers have been toned down a lot after Raman-Ishita marriage and thats what very often happens in our country. The girl' side turns out to be more submissive for the sake of her good married life without any hiccup. But earlier the Iyyers were shown to be on par with the Bhallas in every aspect. So,I would like to end up by saying that the word 'education' has a much more broader and a deeper meaning than just a degree on a paper or a high profile job.
