Maybe an audiobook will help. I find that audiobooks really help in cruising through the classics

My book reviews for the four books I read as part of the readathon -

1. Mexican Gothic (Horror)

This book started off a bit slow and the first 40-50 pages went in setting the tone of the novel. The setting of the novel and the atmosphere created, added to the Gothic horror element. I haven’t read much of horror but this was different in its approach. I loved the female character Noemi for being strong and sassy. I gave this book 3.75 stars, rounded off to 4 stars.

2. Speak (Contemporary)

Surprisingly I had not heard much about Speak until recently despite it being quite a widely read book. This book dealt with the uncomfortable topic of rape and its implications on a girl’s psyche in an accessible and non depressing manner. A book on the topic of rape or sexual abuse can be very difficult to get through but Speak was easy to read and yet had the desired impact. I gave this 4 stars.

3. The Devotion of Suspect X (Mystery)

This book unlike many mystery novels reveals the killer somewhere at the beginning itself. The entire story revolves around covering up a murder that has taken place and how the police go about in figuring out the culprit. I am used to the regular plot of - a murder is committed and the reader works with the police to figure out the murderer. Higashino’s masterful writing and interesting characters makes this unconventional approach to a mystery works. Another 3.75 star book for me, which I rounded off to 4.

4. Radio Silence (Young Adult)

Radio Silence deals with friendships, identity crisis and discovering or accepting one’s sexuality in your teenage years. If this book had come out when I was in my college years, I’m sure I would have enjoyed and related to it even more. The fact that the author is quite young makes her writing about teenagers more authentic. Despite being older than her target audience, there were aspects of the book that I could relate to and thought I felt a similar way when I was in school/college. I gave this book 4 stars. The short chapters of the book also added to it being an easy read. I think I finished this book the quickest.

I will definitely be reading more of Alice Oseman’s novels.

I have about 50 pages left of The Midnight Library and the way it’s going, I might give it anywhere between 4 - 4.25 stars.

In my case it's the complete opposite. While reading classics, sometimes I have to read a sentence or a paragraph twice to get it's true meaning, and I don't like going back and finding the exact location with audiobooks.

This book has gotten a little better about midway through. It's finally getting into the story. I just hope it keeps getting better.

That's the 7th chapter or so, I think, right? If so, you're already towards the end. I'm sure you can finish it in a few days!
