Agree with all three of you when it comes to the genres that can be removed, especially Non fiction. I don’t hate it, it’s just that I would need 3-4 months to finish a book. As for memoirs and mythology, I don’t think I have read even a single book from these two genres.
Let’s see what the other members decide.

Idk about mythology.. I mean what sort of books are we talking about? Something like The Iliad? Or something contemporary like Stephen Fry's Mythos? Or more like retellings, like the Song of Achilles or something?

I keep forgetting to update my reading progress lol. So I'm done with two more books. The Great Gatsby and Speak.

The fourth book, I'm still confused about. I'm definitely not in the mood for romance. So I would like a suggestion between two books... Which was the better book? Mexican Gothic or The Devotion of Suspect X

@all: A few questions for all of you (new members as well) -

Q. Was reading four books in a month too much or is it doable? I don’t intend on us reading four books in a month again, but I wanted to know.

The books were short so I didn't find it very taxing. It was actually quite fun to switch genres like that.

Q. Are you on board with the idea of reading books of two different genres every alternate month (we could read and cover more genres that way)?

Yeah.. That is a great idea.

Q. Would you be okay with reading a chunker (book over 500 pages) in this book club over a period of one and half to two months?

Do you mean to combine the second and this idea? Like choose a chunker and another title and we'll get a month to finish the shorter book and 2 months to finish the chunker?

Great going! I liked both the books, maybe Mexican Gothic a little more. The first 40 odd pages are a little slow though.

The Iliad would be a heavy read, I meant mostly the retellings and even contemporary versions.

Personally for me the readathon made for a good change but I didn't like having to put aside the books I was in the mood to read at that point. I get it when Hinna said it felt a bit like homework.

A reading marathon was just one of those things I wanted to try out since I had seen it on bookstagram and it seemed interesting. The next time we do something like this, it will be a reading challenge where I choose the reading prompts and you choose the books you want to read to fulfill that prompt.

Reading two books a month was something I thought we could do every alternate month (if it happens).

For instance, since this month we read 4 books, next month we will read only one book and two books in August (out of which one book will be a romance chosen by Hinna & Shanam). The number of pages (2 books combined) will not exceed 500 pages.

Reading a chunker will happen only once in the year because it is too time consuming otherwise. Whenever we do that, I will put up 3-4 names and the one that gets most votes we can read over 45 days - 60 days (depending on the number of pages in the book).

These are just a couple of ideas I had in mind for the future. Maybe we can try reading two books in August and see if it works out or not.

Maybe just my opinion, but I feel reading 2 books every 2 months would be too much work and not as enjoyable as having one BOTM. Especially for slow readers like me who like to read slow and savor every page, and want to get through their own books too.

Reading update: I have read above 80 pages of The Great Gatsby so far, and I'm not enjoying it at all. I'm finding it extremely tedious to get through.😵

Wow, you're going fast!

I haven't read Mexican Gothic but Suspect X was good.

In that case, I'd hate to see Mythology go from the list. This sub genre of retelling classic mythology is really coming up.
