And for the chromatically obsessed me (and surprisingly, being the logophile that I am and the at times, logastellus, 😉I could not find a word that describes an extreme fondness for colour. I love colour and the names of colours. And with time on my hands and a desire to do something in photoshop, results in this below.😆

The names are such lovely ones, you could fall in love with the colours too.😊

Dreams

"All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible."

~Wise Old Saying~

One word and so many meanings, so many interpretations and so many disappointments. Truly, no word had been able to inspire and defeat at the same time.

Dream has been defined as a succession of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that usually occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. And though neither the content nor the intent of dreams has been fully understood, dreams have been the topic of scientific speculation, philosophical discussions and religious interests. And yet, there has been no single opinion as to what exactly dreams are, though the most prominent is that of Sigmund Freud, who emphasized the importance of the unconscious mind, and a primary assumption of Freudian theory is that the unconscious mind governs behaviour to a greater degree than people suspect. He suggested that the human brain is divided into three parts:

Id: Our unconscious. Urges, desires, wishes and dreams.

Ego: The rational and moral part of the mind.

Superego: censors the id and enforces the morals of the ego.

Freud claimed that when you were awake, your id was suppressed but when asleep, your primal impulses gained the chance to express itself and that is what dreams are made of; our unsuppressed and unconscious desires and dreams.

Indeed, the goal of psychoanalysis is to make the unconscious conscious. Carl Jung, who studied under Freud, agreed that dreams had psychological impacts, but differed in the theories behind the same. And the internet will throw up weird, interesting and fun facts about dreams and dreaming.

But scientific theories aside, dreams are fascinating and scary; dreams are the inspiration, triggers for memories and in rare cases, a glimpse of the future. They are indicative of great genius or absolute laziness. And also a term for someone who is not practical- day dreamers, which begs the question, when it has been proven that dreams are important why should dreaming be so slandered? Why does so much controversy exist over the act of dreaming in the day to day world? Why do all the achievers insist we dream and work towards making them true, going to the extent of stating that no dream is impossible, while our family, friends and well-wishers insist that we give up foolish dreams and think practically?

Maybe it is because we either dream without thought to our ability or maybe we only dream rather than working towards those dreams, for dreams are good and also serve as a guideline, provided we work towards them, give it our all and not give up. And at times we are ourselves confused with what we dream of and what we actually want, in which case rather than give up the dream, it would be better if we just took a step back, reasoned out as to what we want and what we dream, set a new dream and work towards it. But do not give up on dreams for as it is said, "Follow your dreams, they know the way."
