'I used ketchup as blood to fool my teacher!'

That's what Kunal Kumar did to get out of a sticky situation in school. On the occasion of Teacher's Day on September 5, TV actors tell Deepali Dhingra the pranks they played on their teachers

Kunal Kumar

I had a Physics teacher called Mr Yadav and I was really scared of him. I remember back when I was in school, this teacher of ours had a funny habit. He used to come into class, zero in on me, then make me stand and ask me Physics questions. I used to memorise the answers and say them but he'd still pester me for more. I once applied ketchup and a bandage to my arm and pretended to be in a lot of pain. He let me go but some time later, he observed that there were lot of flies hovering around my arm! It was then that I was caught. But I think that's where I learnt my acting skills from!

Sudhanshu Pandde

For some reason, the principal of my school used to hold a grudge against me. I never realised why, but later I got to know that he used to like my chemistry teacher, who was quite fond of me. So whenever my principal would see me talking to her, he would get really angry and some poor peon would end up getting fired! This continued for two years. After I got to know this, I would deliberately talk to that teacher in front of my principal. This continued till his hair turned grey!

Vaishnavi

Though I wasn't a naughty student at all, I remember when I really annoyed my teacher once. It happened when I was in the first standard. I had the cheek to correct my teacher in an insolent manner when she was writing something on the blackboard. She immediately called up my mother and told her how I had insulted her in front of everyone! That was an incident which I've never been able to forget.

Divya Dutta

I used to be a naughty student. But since I often used to end up becoming the head girl of the class or team, I had to maintain a dignified image. I often used to initiate a prank but never get the firing for it! Once, we were rehearsing for a play and I was in no mood to rehearse for it. So I 'accidentally' fell off the stairs! My teacher, who was really soft hearted, told me to go home and said there won't be any rehearsal that day. After she left, all my friends partied!

Arjun Punjj

All my teachers used to get bugged with me but at the same time, they used to like me too. Somehow, I never used to fare well in my exams as I was too involved in sports and cocurricular activities. I used to never attend classes and very often, my parents used to be summoned to school. But somehow, it always happened that my teachers would turn around. They used to tell my parents that he's not doing well and my father used to tell them that he will look into the matter. Suddenly, they would turn around and say, 'but he's a good boy, we know he will himself do good'. It was so surprising! Every teacher's day, the students used to dress up like teachers. I managed to take my revenge from them then!

Rajeshwari Sachdev

My teachers were all really kind, although I think, I was not very kind to them! I would never do my Maths homework. We used to have our ballet rehearsals on the top floor of the school, after which we would be told to go downstairs. I would go down but I would keep going from one floor to the other. If a teacher would ask what I'm doing outside class, I would pretend that I'm out on some chore for a teacher or going to the staff room. But I'm very grateful for my teachers for allowing me to excel in things I was good at.

July 2000.

Aamir Ali Malik is a 22 year old Indian model with looks to die for and the personality to match. I rang him up to interview him over the phone, however he was out doing a fashion show. I kept trying and when I finally got him on the phone it was worth the wait.

Aamir had recently won "Best Dressed", "Best Personality" and "Mr Photogenic" at the Millennium Grasim Mr India 2000 pageant in Hyderabad. He has done numerous commercials in India including modelling for Meswak Toothpaste, Himami cream and Aptech. He has featured in couple of music videos and is currently making a name for himself before thinking of acting. As Aamir explains "You have to be someone before you can enter the film industry, and I'm still making a name for myself". Although Aamir is enjoying the experience, there is no reason why he should not succeed in Bollywood either and he has been getting quite a lot of offers.

This down-to-earth Virgo is pretty open about his life and experiences. Although he claims he was a flirt in his college days, his sweet-talking ways haven't gone astray. Aamir's busy schedule of modelling, commercials, and his main job as a part of the cabin crew for Sahara India, leaves him very little time for a girlfriend. When I question him about being a flirt and sweet talker, the handsome model replied "I've sobered down a lot from my college days, however I do tend to go back now and then!!"

So what does Aamir look for in a girl? "Well she has to be.....sweet. Oh, and absolutely in love with me! Not too serious though." He also wants a girl who is truthful, understanding and beautiful. "I have heard Australian women are beautiful. I see the stadium in cricket matches in Australia and there are so many pretty women there!" states Aamir. His fantasy woman in Catherine Zeta Jones, who he describes as the 'the wild type'. However he also fancies tennis sensation Anna Kournikova and Indian actresses Raveena Tandon and Neelam.

As an only child, the most important factor in his life is his mum, whom he asked to retire when he was 20 so he could look after her. I asked him whether he was a 'Mama's Boy' and his reply was "Absolutely!! I don't deny it. I am all she has and I want to look after her".

Aamir's easy-going attitude makes him a pleasure to talk to. His good looks and dimples merely compliment his friendly personality and sociable nature. Be sure to look out for this Indian model in the future because I am sure many of you, like me, would love to see a lot more of him!

A fairytale wedding for Pari
Chaitanya Padukone
Wednesday, August 30, 2006 23:50 IST

Reena Kapoor and Aamir Ali will have a lavish wedding in Woh Rehnewali Mehlon Ki' (Sahara One).

The Rajshri Productions' show 'Woh Rehnewali Mehlon Ki' (Sahara One) completes its run of 300 episodes this week and will have actor Reena Kapoor (Pari) getting married to Saumya (Aamir Ali) in a lavish ceremony.

Reena who earlier essayed the role of Pari's mother Rani in the show didn't imagine that she would be asked to play the daughter too. Reena says, "Post the 20-year-leap, I did not wish to play an older character.

So I had decided to opt out of the show. But Kavita Barjatya (creative producer and sister of film director Sooraj Barjatya) offered to cast me as the 21-year-old Pari. It is challenging to play a daughter who though looks identical to her mother, has a distinct personality."

Reena continues, "Pari is savvy and street smart while Rani was bholi bhali. Contrast to Pari who is exuberant, Rani was sober. Following an accident Pari walks with a limp. She has been brought up by her foster mother Surekha (Shagufta Ali)."

But how would the engagement and wedding episodes, filmed on the lines of 'Hum Aap Ke Hain Kaun' grab eyeballs in comparison to the other equally dramatic soaps? Kavita is not perturbed.

She says, "There is mystery and intrigue woven in the celebrations. Pari will be getting married to Saumya (Aamir Ali), son of the conniving Kaamya (Kamya Punjabi). In the past Kaamya had tried to create a rift between Rani and her husband Prince (Arjun Punj)." Kavita continues, "Kaamya pretends that by accepting Pari as her bahu she is atoning for her past sins. But she will soon show her true colours."

Incidentally, Reena is married to software engineer Karan Nikher who has recently shifted base from Delhi to Mumbai.

Hey Aamir, where's the party tonight?

While TV actors have mastered the art of throwing big bashes, one wonders why actor Aamir Ali is shying away from one. The actor celebrates his birthday today. However, he plans to celebrate his birthday in a quiet manner. Is it that the actor has no one to party with? "Well you can say that!" he laughs, "I am not that lucky. All I get to hear is rumours linking me to women. But it doesn't seem to be happening in real life." The actor says he plans to spend the evening with his mum. "She's someone special," he smiles.

Aamir Ali to marry Pari
By: Sandipan Dalal
August 26, 2006

Aamir Ali
After his stint with Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki (KGGK), Aamir Ali will be seen in Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki (SaharaOne) as a brooding business tycoon who woos Pari (Reena Kapoor). As a part of the generation leap, the makers were looking for an actor to pair with the leading lady.

Says Kavita Barjatya, Rajshri Productions, "You'll see Pari getting married. After looking at a few actors, we zeroed in on Aamir Ali. He is Saumya, an eligible bachelor. Hailing from a wealthy family he is a hardworking, shrewd businessman."

Looks the part

We hear that the production house has been in talks with a bunch of actors before roping in Aamir Ali. Barjatya explains, "The focus is now shifting and we needed a good performer. We had three strong reasons to sign Aamir. As an actor, he wasn't carrying any baggage of his previous show. His face and innocence suited the character. He's good at his job. Even Sooraj (Barjatya) was impressed. We're expecting a lot of appreciation and rise in TRPs once his track starts on the show."

Dressed to kill

Aamir has already started shooting for the show. "It's always a pleasure working with a noted production house like the Rajshris," says Ali. Last seen as the softhearted Sameer in KGGK, the actor will now sport a stubble and linen suits. He adds, "In my last show, I had a casual look and I was wearing mostly T-shirts and denims. Here I dress like a corporate honcho."

As for what to expect from the show in the coming weeks, he says, "Rohit and Khushi will be happily married. Pari promises that she would never come in between them in spite of her liking for Rohit. Soon Saumya comes calling as a prospective groom."

The episode that marks Aamir's entry will go on air early next week.

Kyunki...TV stars ki shaadi hai

The next few months will see many TV actors tying the the knot... off-screen!

NICOLE DASTUR Times News Network

As was the case last year, this year too many TV couples will tie the knot. Arjun Punjj and Gurdip Kohli, Tanaaz Lall and Bakhtyaar Iraani and Manoj Bohra and Teejay Sidhu and one of television's hottest bachelors, Iqbal Khan will be getting married in the months to come. While Tanaaz and Bakhtyaar will be getting married in November, Arjun and former co-star Gurdip are set for a December 10 wedding in Delhi. Manoj and Teejay will also be saying their vows in either November or December, depending on the auspicious dates. And Iqbal Khan will marry his long-time girlfriend Sneha in January 2007.
"We'd planned our wedding a long time ago. It's coincidental that so many of our friends and colleagues will also be getting married at the same time," says Arjun. "But the year-end is the marriage season in India, so I guess there'll be more of partying and less of working then, what with so many weddings," laughs Arjun. Tanaaz agrees, "Yes, it's a big coincidence that so many of us will be tying the knot during the same period. But all the weddings will be different experiences, since they will all be different. I think ours will be the first bawa wedding in the television fraternity."
So, is it that most television stars are falling in love with their co-stars because they spend maximum time with them on the sets? "We are together for most of the day, so we do get a chance to know the person better. But it's important to relate to the person, after all, you can spend the whole day with someone, but there can't be a relationship if there is no chemistry," says Arjun. "It's not just about spending time with the other person, you have to get along with him too! There are so many co-stars who just hate each other, yet, they have to spend most of the day together! But yes, to an extent, the long working hours tend to bring us closer. It helps soothe the creases in a relationship," says Tanaaz.

Aamir Ali fears heights

Aamir Ali who plays Soumya in Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon ki was in a spot of bother during the shoot of the serial recently as one of the scenes required Aamir to jump from one floor to the other. And this posed a problem for the actor as he suffers from phobia of heights.

Aamir says that he was indeed worried during the shoot. "I was very scared when I saw the height but I had to do that scene as it was the requirement of the script. Thank God the scene was completed in one take itself and there was no need of retakes. The building was at Andheri and as I'm playing the lead in the serial and certainly the scene is connected to a lot of things in the serial I had no choice. You see this scene will bring a twist in the story so without any nakhra I had to that scene," says Ali.

Talking about stepping out of his comfort zone, this is not the first time that Aamir Ali has to do a different kind of role. His first role was that of a chair! When most people enter the acting world with a background history of numerous dramas and plays, Aamir Ali has just one to his credit – that of being a chair. Apparently the school drama revolved around a classroom scene and Ali was to play the role of a chair.

Aamir was lately in the news for his alleged his link up with Sanjeeda Sheikh (Nimmo) something that the actor has clearly refused.

Actor Aamir Ali is one hell of a sport. At a recent shoot where he had a three page monologue with God in Rajshri's Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki, there came a channel PYT who wanted apna Aamir to actually introduce all the members of the joint family cast to the channel by playing anchor. While most stars would actually put their nose up and act pricey, Aamir actually obliged and kept the entire crew engrossed with his wit. Now here is one actor who deserves the place of the male protagonist in a female-dominated telly world. Great job, Aamir.

    Scoops & News

    Aamir Ali's transition in ANJAAN!
By Manissha Despaande, Bollywood Trade News Network

Actor Aamir Ali is eagerly awaiting the D-day when his first major release, ANJAAN, makes it to the theatres. The film marks Ali's transition from being a familiar household name on television (in Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki) to the big screen. True that he was also seem as one of the four protagonists in Hansal Mehta's Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai, but Aamir considers this film to his official film debut. Interestingly the role in KAHANI came to Ali only later after Hansal Mehta approached him for the film. "It was decided that I would be launched in the film. However there was a slight intermittent delay during which I was offered the role in KAHANI GHAR GHAR KI and I decided to take it up," Aamir recalls.

Unlike other actors, Ali was not apprehensive that the 'television actor' tag would prove to be barrier in films. "I didn't have any of those apprehensions then and even now. A number of television artistes have moved on to films from television but most of them are character artistes. My case is an exception and I hope to break the myth that television artists can never make it big," Aamir says.

In ANJAAN, Ali plays the title role of a mysterious stranger who creates havoc in the lives of a husband and wife, within a few days after he enters their house. According to Ali, his role in the suspense thriller has several shades to it "I am glad that I have got to play such an interesting role in the beginning of my career," he says. Aamir recalls that it was a great experience shooting for the film. The best part of it though was when he shuttled between the sets of ANJAAN and KAHANI GHAR GHAR KI on some days for two contrasting media. "I enjoyed every bit of it. In fact it brought the best of my acting skills for both," he smiles.

Right now though he has clearly made up his mind to focus on films. "That's because there's too much of exposure on television and the impact of the two media is different," he explains. Moreover Hansal Mehta has already signed him for the title role of his next film, RAGHU, which will start shooting in January next year. "I and Hansal share an excellent tuning with each other. Besides, he liked my performance in ANJAAN, which prompted him to sign me again for the title role of RAGHU. The rest will be decided by the release of ANJAAN. I am hoping for the best," he quips.
