Below Chapter 10 Update...
Manu nervously took ashirwaad from Raj's mom and then his father. She didn't miss the tense expression that Raj had as he bowed before Harjeet. Harjeet was glowing with happiness while Amrit was nervous, albeit extremely happy for her son. She hugged her new daughter-in-law and gave Raj and Manu each a kiss on the forehead. She lead the new couple to the main bridal dining area.
Raj felt many mixed emotions as he followed Manu and Amrit. Amrit was constantly hugging and fussing over Manu. Manu wasn't used to this kind of love and attention, to her these affections were alien. When they got to the table, Raj pulled out her chair and she sat down. Raj sat down across from her while Mohini and Harjeet were being seated next to the new couple. "Ruko Mohini", Harjeet said. Mohini stopped in her tracks as she looked at Harjeet in fear. Harjeet pulled out the chair next to Raj and sat down. With a look of longing towards Amrit who was sitting across from Raj, he said: "for only today are you willing to sit with your husband?". Amrit turned her face away from Harjeet as his atrocities rang back into her mind. "Ma...please sit", Raj said while surprising everyone. Amrit quizzically looked at her son and back at the man who she once called her husband. "Ha Raj. Marriage is something that can't be forgotten and if the person God chose for you with is right beside you, you lose the ability to stay away from them", Amrit said as she glumly took the seat besides Harjeet.
At that statement, Manu turned away from her food and looked at Raj. Was Raj really the man God chose for her to spend eternity with? Was she even destined to spend eternity with someone? Would she be given the chance to be a regular woman? Or was she just a pawn in a game beyond the realms of her understanding.
While the conflicted quad was battling with their inner turmoil, a certain Mohini was glowing with anger. Nihal put a hand on his mothers shoulder and calmed her down. He sat her at the furthest end of the table and pushed Pammi to the seat next to hers. As he was about to pull out the chair next to Pammi, he decided to pursue his curiosity. He walked next to Raj's newly wedded wife and took the seat next to her, trying to be as inconspicuous as possible.
Nihal was taught simple principles as he was growing up. The most important was to achieve Harjeet's affections and become his waaris. Unlike Raj who was handed everything on a silver platter for simply being able to walk properly, Nihal had to struggle throughout his life. With a mother like Mohini and a brainless sister like Pammi, intellect was important. However, far more than intellect, cunning was etched onto his very core. He had thoroughly analyzed his enemies within seconds of meeting them, making it his mission to find their downfalls. The newest enemy though, had confused him and thrown his balance off on a tailspin. Manpreet Pawania, the bride that Raj was proud, protective, and extremely over. This woman had Harjeet wrapped around her finger and her mother-in-law flustered with happiness that she had been deprived of for 15 years. Yet who was this girl...woman exactly?
She was undeniably gorgeous, even the most stubborn man would admit. With big bright eyes, a long slender nose, and plump lips her every feature oozed with the royalty her lineage boasted. Yet there was a certain humility to her that he couldn't place.
While Nihal attempted his very best to assess Manu without catching anyone's notice, Raj was suspiciously staring at Nihal who had forgone all the hundred of other empty seats in the extremely large wedding setup to sit next to his Manu.
At one point, Raj met Nihal's eyes and gave him a challenging smirk which turned into a cold glare. Nihal returned his sentiments with an equally frightening stare. In the midst of all of this, Manu fidgeted with the massive amounts of food placed before her unbeknownst to war the two men on either side of her were waging. She couldn't get a single morsel into her mouth and sighed in frustration.
Manu continued to nervously fidget for the next fifteen minutes until Amrit and Harjeet pulled the newly wedded couple up for the rest of the familial rituals. By the time everyone had left and Manu was welcomed into the Bajwa home, it was nearly 4 am. Manu felt extremely tired and the saree as beautiful as it was, was beginning to make her uncomfortable. Somehow Raj had been lead away and Amrit along with other ladies had lead her to Raj's room.
Manpreet was currently sitting awkwardly at the foot of the bed, waiting for Raj to come and tell her what to do next. Although they were now married, they weren't the conventional couple so she was pretty sure Raj would tell her his plans for Mohini's demise when he arrive. The sooner Mohini was taken down the quicker Manu could make her way back to her own life.
A loud thud from the heavy door closing snapped her out of her thoughts as she was suddenly looking up at Raj who was standing by the closed door.
