Part 6
Harjeet left shortly afterwards and he took Raj with him and his men. Manu sat in her room recalling what Amba said to her.
"Manu, ab jab Gunjan ki shaadi teek tai hochuki hain, main nehi chaati ki kuch ar garbad ho. Rajveer Bajwa sirf ek ladki chaate hain. Woh ladki kon hain, muhje koi farak nehi padta, lekin uski shaadi Raj se hone chaiye. Uski shaadi kar ke agar us Bajwa ko kuch din ke liye hum shamal sakte hain, toh phir main samaglungi ke us ladki ne hamare kuch kam pe aya. Ek ladki ke zindegee hamari maksat ke age nehi hain.", Amba said.
How could Raj ask to marry her. He knew that condition was impossible to fulfill. She wasn't an ordinary girl, who could get married and be his wife. She had her own responsibilities. Was this Raj's plan to bring her secret out?
Manu's phone rang to break her train of thought. It was Raj, "Before you overthink things. Listen to what I have to say. I liked you Manu Pawania. I liked you a lot. Before you were Preet, you were my friend. That doesn't change that you betrayed me and lied to me throughout our friendship. In spite of that, I expect you to do something for me, as a favor. Be my wife and help me remove Mohini permanently. Push her to the furthest ends of the earth, that she can never find her way back to my family. Think of it as your payment for lying, and in exchange for helping you get Aman for your Gunjan didi. Since we aren't friends, I expect this as retribution for everything I have done for you these past few days.", Raj said.
"Raj, yaar...ask me for anything else. How am... I supposed to be your wife, it will put my secret in jeopardy. What would I say to my mother? Why would I be gone, where would I go?", Manu stuttered. She didn't understand why he was asking this of her. Just hearing him say the word wife...even angrily, made her remember how he held her in his arms and voiced his attraction to her when he thought she was Preet.
"I don't know anything about how you'll handle being Manu, Preet... I just know that you will do this. Or else your secret won't last very long", Raj threatened.
He wanted Manu to be his wife, even if for a few days. He wanted her, to understand what he felt about her in his life. There was no reason for her to be the girl he married. Raj truly wanted to end the Bajwa-Pawania enmity but there was no reason for Manu to be a pawn. Except that he wanted her to be a pawn...in his games.
"Raj...paar...tumko mere se shaadi kyu karna hain. Hamare pind mein bohut saare ladkiya hain.", Manu tried to argue. In her heart she didn't want to him to think of all the other available girls. She remembered how she felt when asking her mother of how she would look in a sehra. Manu wished she could be a bride but knew it was beyond the realm of her reality.
"Manu, don't argue anymore. Tomorrow tell aunty that you'll be going away for a few months. Think of any excuse. Or even tell her the truth if you have the guts. Just know that you need to be gone for a long time because her coming around and asking questions will cause problems for you.", Raj ordered.
"Teek hain Raj", Manu said. She never thought her yaar would ever risk her secret for his own personal mission against Mohini.
But it seemed like the easy going Rajveer was gone for now.
