In fact Shivaji Satam sir was a bigger movie character and stage actor. Yet he was doing this, but then OK all have their own preferences
Actually till the time Viren was there, show mostly focused on ACP and the first inspector, Daya was never even treated as a detective, he was like a Jr. Artist standing behind, they didn't even care to think a name for their character, just used his real one interchanging Dayanand S. to S. Dayanand Thats why I feel he was the one to gain maximum from CID.
Selected as a Jr. artist, he end up as a parallel lead and probably one of the faces of the show, even now when people remember CID, Daya is the first name that pops up post ACP Pradyuman (even before Abhijeet)
Aditya sir did gain recognition through Satya movie but yeah Shivaji sir was more famous and still did lots of movies while doing CID....that's the reason why he used to be absent on every 3rd or 4th episode until ep 200
