Sachin Sharma

Delhi actor stands out for his roles

Star of the week

Starting his career as a newsreader with Sahara Samay, today Sachin Sharma has created a niche for himself as an actor with serials like Kahaani Ghar Ghar ki, CID, Tumhari Disha and latest Vaidehi. The actor recently made news by signing up for a second fiddle in Sindoor-Tere Naam Ka, in spite of the fact that he was already playing the main lead role in another daily.
Sneha Hazarika had a brief chat with the young actor about Vaidehi, and his hi-profile entry in Sindoor.

Q Tell us about your role in Sindoor?
It's a positive character. He is a very lovable boy, a perfect guy who every woman will like. I am cast opposite Keerti Gaekwad's character Niharika who is the bad girl in the show. In fact, this is for the first time in Indian television that a positive and a negative character fall for each other and will also be seen being together for quite sometime.

Q So will your goodness play upon Niharika's character and make her a good girl?
She has all the vital reasons to remain negative. So he won't be changing her. Just that everything about my character reminds her of her dead husband Rudra.

Q So are you enjoying your time with the Sindoor unit?
As of now I have been shooting only at nights with them. And even though it's been just a couple of days, it's great fun working with the unit.

Q You were already playing the main lead role in Sony's Vaidehi. So how come you signed up for this character in Sindoor which is only second to the main lead?
For me it's not the first or second lead which matters. What I value most is the character and if a character is powerful enough, I don't mind taking it up.

Q Is variety the reason behind joining Sindoor?
Yes, in Vaidehi my character is hardcore negative and here it's out and out positive with whom any woman can fall in love with. It's hard for people to believe that it's the same guy who is playing these two different characters.

Q So variety is the spice of life for you!
Oh yes, surely. I even did a charity show recently called Kudiyan Bemisal. In fact I keep doing shows on and off. Now given a chance, I want to do shows abroad also.

Q Are films on your agenda?
Of course. I definitely want to do films and sooner or later it should happen.

Q You seem to be quite satisfied with the way your career has shaped up till now?
Yes. I am a Delhi boy and I came to Mumbai around two-and-half years ago. Since then, I have portrayed varied roles in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, Tumhari Disha, CID, and now Vaidehi and Sindoor. So it's been a pretty satisfying journey.

Q Your future plans?
I haven't planned anything in Television now. I will take things as they come. I am looking forward to Navratri as I am hoping to do some good shows. And yes films later on.

Pallavi Subhash aka Pritha

Freeze Frame

Intimidated by Iqbal Khan, newcomer Pallavi Subhash fumbles again and again on the sets of Karam Apnaa Apnaa

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Newcomer Pallavi Subhash was intimidated by the mere presence of Iqbal Khan, while shooting the first few episodes of Star Plus's new soap Karam Apnaa Apnaa in Kolkata. The debutante who has garnered great feedback for her simple yet elegant look in the serial had a tough time facing the camera.

The unit members of the show say: "She is a good actor and is very quick with her dialogues." But on the day when Pallavi met her on-screen love interest Shiv, played by Iqbal Khan, she started fumbling with her lines. Everyone on the sets thought Pallavi was unwell but she confessed losing her focus completely. "Actually, she was very nervous to act before Iqbal. It was the third episode and Iqbal was present on the sets. They didn't have any scene together before this. It was just his presence that made her a little conscious," says a unit member.

Apparently, Pallavi's dilemma did not end there. It took eight retakes before her shot was okayed. "But the director understood her plight and was very patient." We spoke to Iqbal Khan who is all praise for Pallavi. "She is a good looking girl. And from what I saw of her in front of the camera, she is a decent actor as well," says Khan.

The hunk also said that he tried to make her feel comfortable during the shooting. "Everyone is a newcomer at some point of time. I had no scenes with her during the Kolkata outdoor. Yes, I was around when she was giving her shot. I don't know if she was intimidated by me," he says. After playing a good Samaritan and a rock star in Kavyanjali and Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai respectively, this time Iqbal is playing an affluent brat in Karam Apnaa Apnaa.

"Shiv is a man of few words. He is arrogant and extremely reserved." Probably it was his character that unnerved his co-star. Being a workaholic Iqbal says that he isn't the kind who likes to throw his weight around. "I'm a simple guy yaar," he laughs. "Its because of my height and my voice that people get intimidated. But things will be easy after some time. Pallavi Subhash was unavailable for her comments.

Ashish Nayyar sets up The Village

After completing his dream of opening a luxury resort in Goa, actor Ashish Nayyar is now looking at expanding his business. The Tumhari Disha actor is planning to set up a mini village on Palolem beach, right next to his previous venture – Chattai.

"It's a collection of 50 independent beach houses. I have decided to call it The Village, because it sounds straight forward." The actor says that The Village will comprise of a swimming pool, a health club and lots of facilities.

"It will be quite similar to Chattai, except for the fact that the duplexes will be made of concrete and not jute. There will also be small gardens in front of the houses." In collaboration with his friend Raes Khan, Ashish sees the project materialising some time next year. "It's a huge undertaking and we have to take care of lots of things like licenses, etc. I want to start work on it as soon as possible," he says.

When asked how the response to Chattai has been, he says, "We've got a very enthusiastic response. We have brought the shutters down right now because of the rains, but will reopen soon. Thankfully, I have already broken even on this project, making way for The Village." On the personal front, Ashish says marriage hasn't changed him one bit.

"It's been a natural process for me. It hasn't changed me as a person; I still do the same things as I did before. It feels great to be with the person you love," he says.

Since Tumhari Disha is winding up, Ashish says, "Playing DK has been one of the most interesting things I have done. Call it a weird coincidence, but everything that has happened to DK on the show happened to me in real life. I lost my mother to cancer, and so did DK. He gets a business proposal on the show, and I, too, started Chattai during same time. Also, I remember that when they were deciding on a name for my character, they came up with the letter D. I think destiny had a very important role to play in my doing Tumhari Disha." As for taking up more acting assignments, "For the moment, I want to take a break. All my attention will be devoted to building that township in Goa now."

Happy birthday to me!

TV actress Chhavi Hussein brought in her birthday at Mangi Ferra on Sunday night. Along with hubby Mohit, close friends like Tumhari Disha producer Rupali Guha and co-actors Kruttika Desai and Dimple Ghosh came to celebrate. The actress, who is currently a part of Twinkle Beauty Parlour, played the perfect host by attending to her friends and made sure everyone had a good time. Also spotted at the event was Aditya Panscholi with wife Zarina in tow, perhaps trying to dispel the buzz surrounding his affair with 'good friend' Kangana Ranaut.
