When MT adapted 'Mouna Ragam', my Bengali friends of the forum wanted me to do the same of one of the pictures of my choice starring the Bengali hit pair of all times 'Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen'…well it is a difficult job but I started it nevertheless before going on leave. Today I am back amidst of the news that another leap and JB separation coming up in the original track…not again, what is wrong with the makers, can't they think of anything original for a change….but that is an issue I will take up separately at the forum. Now for this story, it is an inspiration not a true adaptation. I punched two storylines together…those who have seen the movies will be able to guess…looking forward to your comments please…

The Destiny
Prologue:
On a terrace two men were immersed in a game of chess, the younger one thinking about his next move, he has already lost two game and is not willing to lose the third, mai apna college ka chess champion hu, aur dadaji itna asani se mujhe hara rahe hai ki mai ekdum anari hu…he concentrated on the board again, yes this move will have him in a fix, his is bound to lose his Queen, he once again carefully calculated what could be his grandfather's move against his, then placed his move….
Not bad not bad, murmured the older man…
Dadaji Dadaji aap kaha ho, a voice of a young girl was calling out…
Baach gaye, the older man beamed, humlog idhar hai Bani….dadaji called out…
This is not fair, dadaji aap bhag rahe hai, the younger man grumbled…
Everything is fair in love and war, my child….Dadaji got up, areh uth uth, nehi toh abhi atehi hogi meri ma….ake gussa karegi….
Kiyu, isme gussa karne ki keya baath hai humlog thori na….before he would complete his sentence, Jai saw a girl hardly 8 /9 years old dressed in School Uniform, her hair tied in two plaits was standing with her hands on her hips…
Idhar keya chal raha hai…she asked sternly
Kuch nehi kuch nehi, dadaji replied hurriedly, humlog niche ja rahe hai, aur Bani yeh Jai hai, mera pota…
Mujhe maloom she replied back in a serious voice….ma ne bataya hai…jaldi chaliye mai geyser on karke ayi hu…naha lijiye…ma ka khana taiyyar hai…
Ha ha tu ja mai abhi atah hu……
NEHI aaplog chaliye....nehi toh phir chess leke baith jayenge....Dadaji looked at Jai with sorry eyes then got up to go down meekly...
Jai was amused he never knew other than him, his dadaji with his strong personality ever could obey such a small girl so meekly…

Mr Jagmohan Walia was a civil servant with the Rajasthan Government, he held different post and was known to be a very upright and fair man, he lost his wife young and hence put his only son Uday in Doon School, so that he could concentrate on his career but he ensured that during his son's holidays they spend it together…they went for a tour sometimes within the state sometimes out of it….
Uday went to college in Mumbai, where he met a daughter of a big industrialist and wished to marry her, Jagmohan Walia was not too happy about it but gave in for the sake of his son's happiness…Uday settled down in Mumbai and with the help of his father-in-law started a business, soon he was doing well and had offices all over India and in some big cities abroad…he had two children Jigyasa and Jai….Uday Walia tried to pursue his father to join him and his family after he retired for his services but Jagmohan declined…bahut din parivaar the saath rehne ka adaat nehi hai beta, mai mt abu me hi theek hu…though Uday accepted his logic he knew it was otherwise…Jagmohan was not too much fond of Krishna, his wife…Krishna was a bit high nosed and made no effort to know her father-in-law…..but Jagmohan was conscious of his duties, so he visited the family during festivities or special occasions for few days, he loved his grandchildren….as Jai started growing up, he and his grandfather bonded well and soon much to Krishna's displeasure Jai looked forward to his grandfather's visits during his long holidays…he also wanted to visit him too, but Krishna did not allow it so Jagmohan went instead…

Jai quickly had his bath, it was February and the weather quite pleasant…he had appeared for his final year Engineering from IIT Powai and soon will be leaving for Wharton University in USA for his management diploma, this is the first time he is visiting in grandfather, who he found to be a man of complex character….inspite of his father being the only child, Jagmohan refused to stay with them, when little Jai asked him about the same, he used to reply…beta mere horoscope me hi hai ki zindagi mujhe akele hi bitana hai….that time Jai did not understand the meaning of horoscope etc., he became puzzled later as he grew up he understood that his mother did not like his grandfather and vice versa…nevertheless Jai found it very amusing that inspite of being a pure science student and working in good positions, Jagmohan believed in horoscopes, people come to show him theirs and no match was finalized in Mt Abu unless the horoscopes were looked into by Jagmohan.
His grandfather came out of the 2nd bathroom, ho gaya taiyyar he asked Jai...
Ji, Jai replied…
Bass do minute aur de…Jagmohan stood in front of the mirror, combing is long mane, in dhoti and kurta he was looking more like a Pandit then an erstwhile civil servant. They will now go to Nishikant Dixit's house next door to have lunch. Nishikant was a clerk in Jagmohan's office in Mt Abu, here during his last posting before retirement…Jagmohan fell sick, had his first attack, it was Nishikant and his wife who took his care as Krishna refused to come in this god forsaken place, though Uday visited him, he could not force his father to shift to Mumbai, mai Mumbai jake keya karunga…idhar hi theek hu…sabhi hai mere dekbhal ke liye….
Jagmohan retired and bought this house next to Nishikant's so that he could stay near Bani who was born just before he became sick and used to visit him whenever her parents came to look after him, somehow he became very attached to this child…he wanted to sponsor her education etc., but Nishikant refused…mai uska pita hu, jab janam diya hai toh itna toh mera farz banta hai…So after retirement when Jagmohan settled next to Nishikant's house, he placed a proposition, he will have all his meals with them and will contribute for the same…Nishikant did not agree willingly but with Jagmohan's logic and clerk's pay he reluctantly accepted, Jagmohan paid more than what he would have spent otherwise…Kiran Bani's mother protested but Jagmohan did not pay any heed….jaida hai toh Bani ke liye rakh dena, uski shaadi me kharcha karna utna din toh mai nehi rahunga…
Jai knew that Bani is the girl with whom he is sharing his grandfather's love…

Nishikant's household was a simple house with ordinary furniture but neat and clean, it even had a small garden attached to it, Kiran was at the backyard drying clothes when Jai and Jagmohan walked in throught the small bamboo gate in the fence. Bani now changed in her frock was playing with her younger sisters…seeing them, she went to call her mother….and as they took their seat in the small dining table, Bani helped her mother to serve them, the food was simple but tasty, Jai being a guest got to eat a special chicken curry which Bani did not let his grandfather have…aapke sahed ke liye theek nehi hai, she once again warned in her all knowing tone…
Kiran tumne Bani ko mere peechhe jasoos ki tarah laga diya…his grandfather complained laughingly…
Keya karu bauji, har taraf kaha kheyal rakh pati hu….
After they returned having lunch, Bani came in to give his grandfather his medicines…expertly she put them in a small bowl and gave them to him…woh laal wala khatam hone ko hai, paisa dijiye papa sham ko la denge…
Phirse laal wala, unpar hai keya tu, naam nehi bata sakti….
Mujhse bola nehi jata, bahut kathin hai….aap paisa doge ki nehi….
Tu le lena tujhe toh maloom hai kaha rakha hai…
Kitna lu…she asked…
Maths me tu kabh improve karega beta…mujhe mahine mai kitna goli lagta hai…
Bani calculated and told him, so if one goli is Rs.1.25 toh 60 goli kitne ke huwe...Bani was stuck for few minutes then said....
Theek kaha tune lekin time itna nehi lagna chahiye, phat se bolna hai …ja le le….

Jai got up from his afternoon nap to see Bani reciting an English poem standing in front of Dadaji....
He was listening carefully, after she finished, he corrected her pronunciations, asked her few spellings once she was through, she collected her books and left the house…
Toh dadaji abh mere liye aap ke pass time hoga…
Tere liye hi toh time hai beta, Bani ka kaal test hai….
They sit down, sometime later Bani again comes in with tea and snacks, lights the lamp in Puja room and leaves again, Jai notices that she has free access to Dadaji's household…
Dadaji, ek baath puchhu…
Puchhna…
Please do not take it otherwise but don't you get servants here, I mean don't you think you are imposing yourself on Nishikant and his family…
Dadaji laughed…Jai you are a typical city boy….beta this is Mt Abu and not Mumbai…of course I can employ someone….I mean I have one to clean the house but beta when I fell sick, Nishikant and his wife took care of me, maine nehi bulaya tha, woh khud hi aye the…I knew Nishikant was simple guy as he worked under me, but his wife also turned out to be equally simple and loving, she calls me bauji….mere beti hai woh, took care of me and now they see it as their honour, mai agar abhi unhe mana karu toh they will feel offended…
Jai sighed yes maybe he will not understand as he is too much city bred, even if they happened to visit some other house it was either they were invited or they had made an appointment over phone…
