I guess Aneek and Amanat and at the most Poonam could attempt his songs. The others I don't see them being able to sing Manna Dey songs somehow. But great post and would be a treat if they did sing his songs.

Thanks to all those who have contributed to this thread. It is so refreshing to be involved in a discussion where members are not talking about the personal traits of the participants, their love stories, or "kicking-out" of the participants and/or their gurus .....😊

According to Manna Dey following was one of the toughest songs he has ever sung in films

and now we cant say SRGMP contestants cannot make a effort when previous SRGMP contestants made that effort

Wow....... I didnot think any song could be harder than Lapak Japak.

Thanks for the nice post Salilji and Sareg too.

The other voice in this song is of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Manna Da had mentioned that he just ran away from the studio when he knew he was about to sing and compete against Pt. Bhimsen Joshi!! He was somehow brought to the studio and Punditji asked him to settle down and encouraged to sing with him. The result, as you can hear, was stunning! Manna Da did his best and came out to be good as the master himself.

Thanks for pointing to Parthiv Gohil's song from SRGMP.

Here is Parthiv singing Jhanak Jhanak Tori Baje Payaliya (not in SRGMP though)

Manna Dey is one amongst them... Known for his classically trained voice, Manna Dey has sung some of best classical based songs. These songs will certainly present challenge to the contestants but also reveal the best in them, if they really have well trained voices. All I have seen is contestants singing "ae mere pyare watan" in the shows near 15th Aug/26th Jan. Now that we have such good male singers like Mussarat, Aneek, Amanat, Raja left in C2007, I would like to hear them sing some of the best classical based songs of Manna Da such as below. I am providing links to all these songs for those who would like to enjoy these Manna Da's gems.

- laga chunari mein daag - from Mussarat

- puchho na kaise maine rain bitayee - Aneek

- sur na saje kya gaau main - Aneek

- jhanak jhanak tori baje payaliya - Raja

- chham chham baje re payaliya - Mussarat

- aayo kahase ghanshyam - Amanat

- tu hai mera prem devata - Amanat

- kaun aaya mere man ke dware- Aneek

- tum bin jeevan kaisa jeevan - Raja

Fantastic choices. I would love to hear them singing all this. But wasn't "tum bin jeevan" sung by Mukesh?

Sahana -- you are talking about different song. The one sung by Mukesh is --tum bin jeevan kaise bita, puchho mere dil se -- this song is from fllm Anita, MD: Laxmikant Pyarelal.

The one I am taking about is -- tum bin jeevan kaisa jeevan, phool khile to dil murjhaye, aag lage jab barase sawan -- a real masterpiece of Manna Da from Bawarchi (MD: my favorite Madan Mohan)-- this song is not as known and as popular as his other songs -- but I like it very much. Not only the song but the picturization is also superb. See it here--

yeh gana main jab bhi sunata hun, dil khush ho jaata hai........
