yes manna de is one of the greatest singers we've had and to sing any of his evergreen songs would certainly be a treat both for the contestants and us listeners..

one of my favourites is is a rare old gem called 'lapak jhapak tu aa re badarwa' from boot polish and i would really love to hear it in aneek's or amanat's voice (incidentally it's comic song.. but guess no one thought of it for the comedy round).

here's the video:

Very well pointed out Sakhiji.. There are many comedy songs, but I dont know why they had to stuck to 2 songs from Padosan.. Did they think others wouldn appeal to audience 😕 Infact Mussarat could hv chosen songs like tel malish, chalat musafir which would hv suited his voice texture too 😕

My choices:

Aneek - Jhanak Jhanak tori baje payaliya or Laga chunri mein daag
Amanat - Kasme waade pyaar wafa or Na mangun sona chandi
Raja - Aye mere pyaare watan or Mud Mud ke na dekh

Manna Dey is one amongst them... Known for his classically trained voice, Manna Dey has sung some of best classical based songs. These songs will certainly present challenge to the contestants but also reveal the best in them, if they really have well trained voices. All I have seen is contestants singing "ae mere pyare watan" in the shows near 15th Aug/26th Jan. Now that we have such good male singers like Mussarat, Aneek, Amanat, Raja left in C2007, I would like to hear them sing some of the best classical based songs of Manna Da such as below. I am providing links to all these songs for those who would like to enjoy these Manna Da's gems.

- laga chunari mein daag - from Mussarat

- puchho na kaise maine rain bitayee - Aneek

- sur na saje kya gaau main - Aneek

- jhanak jhanak tori baje payaliya - Raja

- chham chham baje re payaliya - Mussarat

- aayo kahase ghanshyam - Amanat

- tu hai mera prem devata - Amanat

- kaun aaya mere man ke dware- Aneek

- tum bin jeevan kaisa jeevan - Raja

👏👏👏 I was just waiting for this, Salil ji aapke moon mein ghee shakkar, here are some of my favourite Manna dey songs apart from those listed already:

1. Bhay banjana vandana sun hamari
2. Door hai kinara
3. Sapta suran teen gram
4. Tujhe suraj kahoo ya chanda
5. Yaari hain imaan mera
6. Aye bhai zara dekh ke chalo

thanks anu. please mujhe ji mat kaho.. sakhi sounds nice by itself 😊 but ya, absolutely agree.. tel maalish is another gem.. thanks for reminding us of it. it would've suited mussarat very nicely.. in that respect i really find hr limiting his contetants to some unimaginative choices.. ie if it's he who dishes out the songs. some ppl say it's the channel.. so dunno.

Great post Salil - However I think other than Aneek and Amaanat - others just cant do justice to Manna Dey's songs.. I agree with the songs that you have selected for these 2 singers...

I also think that Poonam may be able to attempt some of the songs like 'Aye mere pyaare watan'

Jaya: I was about to write the exact same thing, but you posted it before me.

I am quite sure that Mussarat and Raja won't be able to do justice to these songs. Their voice texture is completely different. Amanat would be good in the classical parts but his voice texture would be different too. And these songs are so much embedded in our minds that a slightest mistake will sound much amplified to our ears.

BTW, great song selection Salil bhai. 👏

I too agree with jaya. except for Aneek and Amanat i dnt think any of the others would be able to do justice to Manna Dey's songs. Poonam and sumedha may still try few but Raja and Musarrat, i dnt think their tonal quality and style of singing would suit manna dey's songs.
