I was definitely one of those who felt roles were handed to her and certainly they were for a great part. But fact is she has delivered and acts well.
She has no competition in mainstream, the rest of the actresses have either resigned to their fate or have no skill. Sara, Jhanvi, ananya are unambitious and not intelligent.
Deepika hurt herself by this HW BS. There movies take ages to be made and take a lot of your time and energy, for PC it was no loss she made a life of sorts for herself there I suppose.
The only one left standing to hold the fort is Alia. The rest good ones are restricted to OTT or doing flowerpot roles.
That’s kind of the point here. She would have competition if non Dharma talents got the same opportunities as her.
One thing I’m starting to notice in this discussion is that when people talk about Alia’s contemporaries they are thinking Ananya, Sara, Janhvi and that’s why the argument of “Alia has talent and delivers” seems so solid and prevent. But everyone ignores the Sanya, Farima, Radhika, Tripti etc. These girls are her contemporaries as well and have a lot of talent. But they are not getting the opportunities or marketing that Alia has been since Highway.
I would say Alia is above average. She is working with phenomenal scripts and directors.
If the director or script is not strong she is not good. Example Kalank.
Her best movies till now have been Highway and Dear Zindagi.
In Gangubai the second half is Alia playing Gangubai and showing how good am I. Even in Raazi it was Vicky who stole the show and her last crying scene was pathetic which has become a meme now.
Compare this to Kiara breakdown in Shershah and the heartbreak shown was phenomenal, which shows that with good directors Kiara can be amazing.
In RRR she was the weakest link, her dance and expression in the song compared to the heroes was really bad.
No chemistry with Ram Charan.
In fact Shreya one scene was phenomenal and the English actress was soo good. People remember everyone but her. Tbh though it was a few scenes the concept was pretty powerful and a stronger actress would have created an impact, I loved the younger Sita.
She is not exceptional like a Sridevi or Tabu or Rani or even a Radhika Apte or Tripti.
Tbh I feel Kriti Sanon , Sanya or Fatima are better than her.
Tbh the Gangubai praise is more pr and fraternity than anything else. She is above average just stop shoving her that the best thing since sliced bread down our throats

People think Alia is god gifts to earth, she really is nothing special. Every big actress before her is superior to her.
Nepotism needs to loosen its grip in the industry and then we will be able to see real, authentic and proper talent rise.
I've been impressed with Alia's' career. When I first saw SOTY, I thought she was a talentless hack because the role was so dumb. But Highway blew me away and I could hardly believe it was the same person.

I personally feel that there's been a seismic shift in the industry ever since Alia's entry and rise in the industry. Yes nepo products generally get more changes etc, but in the past, there was still this understanding of "survival of the fittest", and only those who work their mettle can be at the top.
For ex, in the early 2010s, you had both nepo products and non-nepo products with multiple prime film offers/opportunities. Deepika, Sonam, Asin, Anushka, Sonakshi, Parineeti etc all had a good amount of offers/films and it was up to them to make good on them. Some of them did, and the rest fizzled away (as usually what happens).
Somehow in the past 5-6 years, the stakes have changed. I think the traditional model is still intact with the males - you have your Ishaan Khatter's along with Karthik Aryan. But the game has gotten much much harder for the females. You have now only a set number of starlets who are getting the plum projects; and nearly all of them come from an industry background, and these fresh faces somehow have the power to remove their competitors from roles. The rest of the actresses are choosing the scraps that are left, and unfortunately are getting typecast from the lack of choices.
I truly believe that if Deepika debuted in 2017/2018 rather than 2007, the best that she even could reach is Kriti Sanon's level and not beyond. Not in a world where fetus Alia can get Katrina removed from a movie role😆😆 The game has most definitely changed.

I am tired of Alia and her imbecile acting .. this should stop somehow
Perhaps you can do something shaitanji… I am pinning my hopes on you
I am tired of the nepo brigade overhyping her .. I am sure all the Toffee with karan episodes will have nepo guests praising her to the skies .. annoying af

spot on, I think even in the males it is happening, KA has still a long way to go, will we ever see a SRK or even Akshay again I dont know
but females it is pronounced, it is like there is a glass ceiling in roles as well as media hype.
this is also the reason for so much nepokids discussion and hatred especially when 90% of them can't act

Though one thing remains to be seen is how Alia deals with big failures in coming years. She hasn't had that kind of struggle for the success she has seen, at least in relative terms.
She had that dumb moment about the president iirc and then made that funny spoof video. That speaks to her resilience imho
