Everything can't be attributed to her God-father or marketing. It is her presence, saleability and most importantly she clicked with the audience, with both risky and commercial projects alike. Did Randeep get robbed off his credit in Highway? Yes and I can site truck load of movies where more talented character artists didn't get their due and one actor bagged all the credit, happens all the time.

The fact is audience can't be fooled all the time, with every project. They aren't naive. Even in a movie like Gully boy with focus being entirely on the male actors, the rap part, she made her own mark.

Alia definitely takes risks and delivers, no denying. It's just a lot easier for her with the might of Dharma behind her. She carefully scouts out directors for the off-beat films she alternates with her regular commercial films. Most actresses won't touch these roles this early in their career. Problem is no one would be willing to drop everything to work with Alia, if there wasn't a guaranteed producer attached to every movie. Dear Zindagi, Udta Punjab, Highway were all favors for Karan.

I agree with what everyone is saying about Alia getting that kind of scope but it is certainly not the first time where such things are happening. I mean the movie industry has seen many such occassions where opportunities were literally curated for the actor, hype was created accordingly, but when such opportunities end up in failures, we simply don't bother and move on. Just that Alia delivered a lot of times, more than what many would have liked.

Though one thing remains to be seen is how Alia deals with big failures in coming years. She hasn't had that kind of struggle for the success she has seen, at least in relative terms. Not trying to romanticize struggle but I do believe everyone has to go through the same to come out shining, otherwise the career even at peak would feel like a plateau.

True true. Alia definitely makes the most of every opportunity. Sara had a similar set-up for her, but she decided to stick to flowerpot roles. Jhanvi has tried to copy Alia, but she has never delivered in the roles she picks.

Alia also has a smarter sense of script. Anushka and Deepika both blindly go for the director, instead of the script. Alia on the other hand walks out of these films she sets up, if she doesn't like them.

Not only was Imtiaz asked to take her in the movie, even the script was changed around for her. Highway was supposed to be all about Randeep Hoda but somehow became all about Alia. Gee, I wonder how that happened?

I understand that at first glance it looks like she’s taking risks like in Gangubai (although that was probably a bigger risk for SLB than Alia Bhatt) but fact is her entire career has been curated with such great precision that it’s very easy for her to take these so called risks. She is talented. But is she the most talented person out there? Can we honestly and objectively say that if Sanya Malhotra or Fatima Sheikh got the same opportunities as her, not just in the kind of roles but the over the top marketing, they wouldn’t do as well or even better? How about Radhika Madan? How about Tripti Dimri? Alaya F seemed pretty decent in her debut? Again, yes Alia has talent but she’s not some outlier in terms of talent. She’s definitely an outlier in terms of marketing a status though.

yes, it is actually based on a tv episode that i watched in series called rishtey, it had aditya srivastava and karthika rane, the focus is on aditya's character had much more focus and of course post film marketing killed it further

well said, not to take away from alia's talent when the comparisons are ananya, sara, jahnavi types then alia will look like meena kumari, nutan and waheeda all roled in one

example, sridevi competed with madhuri, juhi, jayaprada, meenakshi, earlier ones like rati, padmini etc, all good (some great) performers, dancers etc

Anushka is may be a better producer than actor. Don't know if it comes across as sexist but now I just associate Anushka with Cricket and Virat. Takes me a while to register that she has been a leading lady in the race with Deepika at one point. 😆

SOTY was a commercial film and Highway was a risky project. She definitely didn’t click with the audiences with SOTY. In fact she was the most forgettable part of that movie. And it’s highly debatable whether she clicked with Highway given that the movie was actually a flop, or an average at best. But what did happen was her marketing team, aka Dharma’s marketing team, went full speed ahead utilizing Highway’s reviews and even Shabana Azimi’s tweet to present Alia as bundle of talent. India’s Meryl Streep was born and the rear is history. She definitely had luck on her side as both 2States and Humpty became successes that same year as well. But the kind of opportunities, and hardcore marketing that she gets is too blatant to be denied. Is she talented? Yes. Does she work hard? Yes. Is she where she is because of her hard work and talent alone? Absolutely not.

If her PR team comes across it, IF would be covering "Anushka Sharma gives befitting reply to troll via Instagram story" tomorrow 😆

Highway was in 2014, we are in 2022. If it was all hype and no substance, we wouldn't have been dissecting Alia and her success right now, almost after a decade. The point is she kept delivering, again and again. Also if we are speaking of talent, branding etc. mine is a very specific profession and even in that networking and branding oneself works wonders, this is the film industry we are talking about which literally runs on aggressive PR and everyone indulges in it. I repeat, we register the success and forget the failures with almost a similar pattern, hype, PR and branding.

Honestly though, I see where you are coming from and I get your points. The difference is I like Alia as an actor, so I'll always be biased in how I see the same thing, will surely be different than how someone who doesn't like her as an actor views things. Simple 😆

I was definitely one of those who felt roles were handed to her and certainly they were for a great part. But fact is she has delivered and acts well.

She has no competition in mainstream, the rest of the actresses have either resigned to their fate or have no skill. Sara, Jhanvi, ananya are unambitious and not intelligent.

Deepika hurt herself by this HW BS. There movies take ages to be made and take a lot of your time and energy, for PC it was no loss she made a life of sorts for herself there I suppose.

The only one left standing to hold the fort is Alia. The rest good ones are restricted to OTT or doing flowerpot roles.
