The producers are in discussion with Badhaai Ho director Amit Sharma and English Vinglish and Dear Zindagi fame Gauri Shinde. Both directors are known for their impeccably crafted direction and storytelling and have shown their interest in The Intern but no one has been booked for the job yet. Discussions are happening and fee negotiations are also underway. They are expected to finalize one of them by the next week," an industry source told us.
Sharma is currently busy with Ajay Devgn's Maidaan which is based on the golden era of football while Shinde hasn't announced any new project after her Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt coming-of-age drama released in 2016. She recently directed a Karan Johar featuring advertisement that highlights same-sex love but doesn't have any film in hand to work on. The makers are apparently in a dilemma to pick one between Sharma and Shinde and are expected to take the final call after considering all the factors.
