Yeah, why not create a state where mob justice prevails. Give harshest punishment for rape and you will incentivize the rapist to kill their victim.  Then give the same punishment for murders and so on so that this frenzied nation can take pride in the state sponsored torture of criminals.

Better let the judiciary do its work instead of making wtf statements.

Yes those confessions don't work in the court of law for a reason.

That's another thing, drawbacks in Indian Justice system that everyone knows very well.

We agree to Jaya, whatever she said is correct and successful in Arabic countries. Accused can't be-innocent, they all did a heinous crime and the police is not that stupid to accuse an innocent person for such a henious crime.

That is not a drawback in the judiciary system. It is a fact that people confessed to crimes they haven't committed either out of fear of being tortured in the police station or not being able to bear the torture anymore. Poor people also can't afford lawyers to defend themselves so they also have no hope to ever being rescued from the torture so they end up accepting the charges. So in a court of law taking this into consideration is fair and right to do. Police may not be stupid but they are humans who can make errors. They do pick up people based on suspicion and question them sometimes even beat them up.

It's disturbing to see how easy it is for educated folks to jump on the lynching bandwagon!

There is no evidence it is successful in Arabic countries, Saudi Arabia has no penal code nor any definition of rape. It runs on the whims and fancies of religious nutjobs.

This is a verdict(*) from the infamous Qatif rape case:

A Saudi Sharia court sentenced the perpetrators to varying sentences involving 80 to 1,000 lashes and imprisonment up to ten years for four of them. The court also sentenced the two victims to six months in prison and 90 lashes each for "being alone with a man who is not a relative" in a parked car. The appeals court doubled the victims' sentences in late 2007 as punishment for the heavy media coverage of the event in the international press regarding the treatment of women in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Saudi judicial practices.

Such statements only encourage such acts and I find it very irresponsible of her to suggest something like this when the emotions are high already.Mob lynchings should be declared illegal whereas lawmakers keeps encouraging it. Unless a court decides the accused is guilty nobody is guilty of anything. The irrational mob is too blind in emotions to be the judge here. Already too many mob lynchings have taken place where innocent people have died for no reason.

Obviously lynching is a negative word and she shouldn't have used it but I guess what we should take away from her speech is her emotions. it's high time these fcking rapists need to be tamed.

Idiots will always call for harsher punishment, hanging, and lynching. Why? It is easy.

It is much more difficult to implement comprehensive sex education. It is not easy to make people have honest conversations about consent. People will squirm if we talk about teaching men and women healthy expressions of sexuality. Because "sanskriti" is more important to people than learning not to slut-shame. No one wants to ask men to be accountable and constantly update their family of their whereabouts and doings. Politicians don't want to deal with teaching cops how to respectfully report and investigate rape. They don't want to teach doctors that two-finger tests are dehumanizing, invasive, and utter bullshit.

So people will scream for violent punishments and feel good about themselves. They do nothing to change their attitudes, check their assumptions, and force society to make important but uncomfortable changes. They do nothing to prevent rape or make it easier for victims to get justice. But they said, "hang rapists". So they are good people.

These same people will say "she was asking for it" when a woman gets date raped by her boyfriend or is assaulted by the Uber driver for being tipsy after a late-night party.

I don’t condone lynching. It’s not the solution nor a better punishment. These are emotional reactions.

@ bold : why, we see so many educated people s/ut-shame female celebs, right here on IF..... so many members using cheap words for female actors.......calling them ghodi and all....... These same members support a common rape victim (which is commendable) but naa, mention any particular female celeb they hate and their vicious nails are out to scratch her........ even if she has done nothing to wrong them........

These members don't shy away from calling a celeb characterless, only cause she accepted she had a number of boyfriends........

When the so-called educated people are like this...........what can we expect from the uneducated lot......
