Why are stars so idolized?

My intent here isn't to bash any actor or actress in particular but I was wondering as we are all humans, why are celebs in general so idolized. I mean, these people could be like my neighbor and they are worshiped!

I get the attraction thing though, but to put them on such a high pedestal, as we are not perfect, I find that interesting.

When I was small I couldn't even fathom the kind of hysteria Micheal Jackson caused in 90's. It was crazy. Not every star can create such hysteria and those who have it are somewhat special. I still don't understand why and how it happens 😆

I don't know

Ask 9 out of 10 people who is Arnold Schwarzenegger and who is Daniel Day Lewis

You'll get your answer 😆 😆

I agree, some people get so mad over these celebs. It blows my mind.

Its all about connection. Celebrities present a larger than life unattainable image in front of you, the initial might be some physical attraction but fangirls/fanboys all over the world relate to thier idol/star in some way. It can be the way he talks to his wife or the way she is strong and independent. One cant put a finger as to what will make you love or hate someone but once you do find a connection you start liking everything a paticular star does.

Stars work as altar egos of people .. represeting to them thier unfulfilled dream and desires.

People idolise the character or the created persona and project that onto the actor/celebrity. The attributes presented by the character or persona is what is actually appealing to the person and somewhere that's what the person self wants to be like. Hence the idolisation. If channelized constructively idolisation can help too.

There's been some very scientific research done that shows that our brains have similar activity when seeing someone have both physical and emotional experiences as they do when we are actually having those experiences ourselves. So when we watch a movie about two people falling in love, we actually fall a little in love ourselves. We experience many of the same emotions, so much so that our bodies can actually be temporarily flooded with some of the same chemicals present when we actually fall in love ourselves. Its no wonder then that romantic movies are so popular. But thats just a movie, a few hours of your day. Why, then do we have such strong feelings for these actors?

Some of it can be attributed to the repetition of the movie industry. Many actors are often cast in similar roles. We fall in love with them in two hour increments over and over again. We get a little addicted to the process of it. We see our favorite actor in another romantic role and we know we're in for another few hours of vicarious romance. But its more than just romance. These actors allow us to experience so many things we might never be able to experience on our own. And we love them for it. Even though we know that these actors are not really all that different from us, we see them through the roles they play in the stories we love.

Another reason we idolize actors is the fact that even when the movie or tv series is over, there's always a chance that we'll get to connect with that story again when we see an actor who plays a character we love appearing in another film. I'll be the first to admit that I've frequently browsed IMDB to find an actor's other work because I want to see more of a character I loved. Sometimes I'm disappointed, but sometimes I discovered that the things I liked about a character were actually simply an actor's trademarks. Take Castle for example. I'm sure there were many people who watched the show simply because they loved Nathan Fillion's character in Firefly. And though the two series have very little in common, you can definitely see a little bit of Malcolm Reynolds in Richard Castle. Add to that the fact that the man is just as charming in real life and interacts so well with his fans and its no surprise that he is adored and even idolized by his fans.

We love actors because they make us feel things. They take us on adventures, whether its tagging along on an investigation with a pretty detective or flying through space like a leaf on the wind. We love them because even the most unrealistic stories are grounded in the things we feel in our own lives, love, lust, excitement, jealousy, sadness, hate, fear, joy, and more. The celebs we love feel things for us and in turn we feel things with them. They give life to the stories and characters we love. It would be hard not to love them for it.
