Do i cry every time i watch the last scene of Friends or when Chandler proposed Monica? Or, when Barney was heartbroken? Yes! But, don't really care or judge Mathew Perry for his addiction which made him oblivious to 4 seasons of FRIENDS 😆
I find certain actors pretty HOT but that's about it. 😆
Though, i really get attached to fictional characters, i dont idolize celebs.

I feel the same way. I don't general fall for the actor himself, which I do think there are good looking ones, of course. It's their character that appeals more.

I don't know about anyone else
But I've the biggest crush on Varun
Still hoping someday I'll marry him
But I've no idea why I'm so crazy about him

@Subject -Why are star Idolised ??.

...guess if they are not ...then the forum would be redundant.😆

On SN,

In my case it's actually a neighboured issue...they are like aloo, pyaaz, tamatar for me...so fandom is not a possibility ... I may not relate to the issue in a normal sense as there is no scope of awe.

Even if I look at Cricket or any other sports that I am passionate about...I still can't get myself to idolise any player.

Guess it's a case of low self esteem which makes people behave that way ...just a view (spare me of Sermons & Gyans)

Specifically in case of films...it also could be an obsession towards a character portrayed...have observed people tend to lose sense of reality.

My 2 chillars

P.S - good topic for reflection

I'll not say celebrities are idolized only because of the characters they play onscreen. This can be true for actors, but what about sportspersons, singers or dancers?? I think there are various factors behind why people have a tendency to idolize stars. The prime reason for them being worshipped is that, life of a celeb is a dream of each and every person. No matter how much we talk about ethics and morals, but at the end of the day we all want to be rich, wealthy, good looking, smart, charismatic and loved by everyone as much as possible. This is the deepest desire of every common man and woman. Celebs are the reflection of our aspirations. They are what we want to be. This makes people copying the celebs by following their style, fashion, dressing sense, body language etc., because we too want to be desired like them.

The media also plays a part in this. They portray a larger than life image of a star. The private life of celebs are exposed to the whole world because of the media , and this makes people connect with them. People think that they know a particular celeb(though they don't), and they start connecting their lives with him/her. This results in an obsession with the star and people start worshipping them, forgetting that they are normal human beings too.

The star's job is to sell the public a character. If the character is portrayed well, we form an emotional bond. We don't necessarily fall in love with an actor, but with their character.

They are larger than life, their movies or music are that which we dance in parties or watch when we are sad or lonely. We know more about them than some distant family. They are a part of our lives in ways few areas they are apna I suppose in ways that cannot be defined.

If you are not going to idolise stars, whom are you goon to idolise? Your next door neighbour??

In my case it's impossible to do so. She is an arrogant brat who smells bad and gossips all day. She is a little difficult to idolise.

On a side note, you idolise stars coz you find something in them that you admire and want to be like. There's nothing wrong in that. It helps you focus and be the best version of yourself. When I was young I used to idolise Pete Sampras. It helped me get during my studies and prevented me from letting go coz my idol was a hardworking achiever. It's the obsession with someone that you should avoid. You obsess over them if you've got no life. Hope this answers your questions.

Bcoz idolizing is inherent in human nature. we crave for perfection which doesn't exist anywhere in reality. so anything that comes close to our own perception of perfection we love to idolize it. very natural of human beings to dream of power, glamour, fame, money etc etc. people tend to live their dream lives through the so called idols or the characters they play. that's the reason sports persons, actors, politicians, revolutionaries are idolized the most. human beings at heart are authoritarian in nature and we crave for power . i believe what people idolize in stars is actually the power they possess.
