Thanks a lot, Leelu.

Your comment about the terrible twosome is also very insightful - that Ruqaiya holds him by being a constant challenge, besides having had an easy friendship with him for years. Mahaam Anga holds him by being a constant need, for she is the only mother figure he has ever known,

once again a really beautiful and insightful post

i am finding ur posts as interesting as the episode itself

both mahamanga and ruqaiya have many similarities they both know jalals weekness and utilise that to have a position in his life thats above others, mahamanga knows how he deep down yearns for motherly love so uses that to bind him to her and ruqaiya uses her brains to challenge jalal instead of her beauty as jalal has many other beautiful wives

Dear Suvi,

I am very glad that you liked this one too.

That is the success of the screenplay, that it keeps you confused but still hooked!

Ruqaiya is something very special, and I hope she continues to get a good bit of screen space,. which they can, if need be, cut out of that of the Rajput lot, especially the portly, utterly commonplace Bharmal, and his frightful wife. They were talking at one time of Jalal's eyes 'bulging'; what can one say of Mynavati's? She rolls them in an alarming fashion too, at the drop of a hat! Sukanya should be banned forthwith as well.

As for the harem, one cannot transplant current ways of thinking to a time 350 years ago.

A delightful read👏👏👏 There is a constant tussle between bhairam khan and mahamanga...a momentary lapse, and their game is over...as of now, mahamanga is slightly ahead of ' khan baba'...

The way mahamanga claims her territory in front of Hamida begum is good enough to wreak havoc on a mother's heart...at this point, Hamida begum is just a helpless mother...

Jalal-ruqaiya equation is a complex one...I am still confused about it...😕

Harem- that's how the things were in those times...it's nothing but the truth...

I feel that ruqaiya wants to have control over jalal's mind and heart as well...I may be wrong...but, in yesterday's episode there were two instances where she said that she rules jalal's heart...what's your take on this?

On raja bharmal...oops..I prefer to call him bhaar-mal...😆I don't know who got this brilliant idea to cast him as a king...

thank you so much for such a beautiful and deep analysis of the episode...there is nothing much that can be added after reading your take...other than agree with you...i loved Ruqaiya and Jalal interaction, the game of minds ,the play of words, the flirting of eyes...she is indeed intriguing and i am waiting to see more of thier conversations and equation...she is going to be a huge piece in the JA puzzle...for good or for bad that we have to see...

smiley is a surprise package ,she exceeded the expectations and brought such authority and elegance as the Empress ,her body language, her arrogance and her pride...she was the Empress even with the whole harem standing ,she stood out

i am loving the whole mughal side of the show, the characters are layered and as u say full on with tadka ...just waiting to see jodha on this side...

rajputs have been a let down barring sujamal and to a certain extent suryabhan before he turned into this awestruck love sick puppy only talks and no action...Jodha is too strong headed for a man like him lol...he cannot contain her in his palace or his heart ,she needs the arrogance and madness of Jalal to love her

I agree, Suvi, she says she is the Shahenshah's Dil-o-jaan, but I think she means his attention, his mind, his thoughts. She is probably not used to thinking of him in purely romantic terms, that is in any case tough to do with someone to whom you have given black eyes, pulled his hair, and kicked him in the legs as kids together. She must have been a spitfire then, all overt aggression, not subtle as it is now.

The commentator also says that Ruqaiya is Jalal ki mohabbat. Too much hair-splitting would be pointless here, but the fact is that he is very, very close to her, he trusts her judgement even on political matters (which means an awful lot with such a self-assured man who is also an emperor), plus she keeps him entertained and on his toes. That is a great way of holding a man, even such a powerful one.

This said, I feel that the whole purpose of the display of grandeur, the parade thru Agra, the women in the harem fighting for his slightest glance, is to show us where Jalal is coming from and what his real power and status are. The scenes in the Mughal camp and in Amer so far were relatively simple and unostentatious, but this is the opposite.

I saw some complaints about Ruqaiya's simple dressing style as not befitting the Badshah Begum. My take on this is the exact opposite. She is so confident of her allure and her hold on Jalal, plus she wants to show the rest that she does not need to do any sajna savarna, or look like a decorated Christmas tree to gain and retain the emperor's attention. and regard. It is a deliberate put down of the rest.

As for your Bhaar-maal, I think he probably came by the kilo but heavily discounted. Ekta is spending a lot on this serial, and she is said to be of an economical mindset, so this is where she is saving her money! The only tolerable man in the Rajput camp is Sujamal, and he seems to have dropped under the radar, more is the pity.

Ruqaiya is not a personality to be graced with roses and showered with romance...she is the kind who is passionate in a game of minds ,attracted to power and arrogance not to kindness or heart felt love...and in this aspect both she and Jalal are quite similar...she says she is his dil-o-jaan coz as she knows Jalal ,he is not only close to her but trusts her like himself and that for her is love and that for her is the fact that he loves her and she is his all...this is one interpretation of mohabbat

and this myth will break for her when she sees a different kind of relationship between JA more of the matter of hear tthan mind and slowly the mind being ruled by the heart...her power will be waning and her hold on him too...now this is what will pose a threat for her and make her see another aspect of love ...and the woman who wants to win always she would most certainly like that love also to be showered on her only ...and Jalal sees her more as his confidant and friend than his wife ...he is comfortable in their relationship which has been from childhood...so that comfort he is ready to name it whatever coz he does not know any other kind of love ...

both are players and very shrewd ...they can hold each other as long as the game is on and they are forever on a chessboard ,that is what makes them soo attractive and interesting

My dear, what a perfect take on this issue! I could not have done it any better myself. That is precisely it: there are many interpretations of love, and this meeting of minds is one of them.

You would have seen, in this post, my assessment of how the Ruqaiya-Jodha relationship might develop.I had there felt that it would depend on whether she sees Jodha as threatening her very unusual bond with their husband.

But there is yet another possibility, that they might learn to co-exist, and to co-own their husband, for the nature of his bond with each of them would be so totally different that the two need not overlap and clash. Ruqaiya could dominate his mind and Jodha his heart. Something - though it is a very loose parallel - like Kaushalya and Kaikeyi. But given the requirements of a daily soap, even if it is of the grand, Mughal variety, I suppose there will be conflict, at least from Ruqaiya's side. As if Mahaam Anga was not enough!

For now, Ruqaiya is pure delight, and I would like to see a lot more of her, with and without Jalal. I am tired of Jodha's endless calls for Jalal's head and her fiery fulminations, of a piece with those of Suryabhan Singh. They make her look and sound like Jhansi ki Rani on speed.

Thanks a lot for such warm praise. As for having nothing much to add other than agreeing with you, I would say exactly the same thing to you!

We are on the same wavelength right thru, including about the Rajput lot, who are pretty dismal, except, as you say, Sujamal, but he seems to have vanished for now, which is a pity. They are like cardboard cutouts, and about as alive.

@blue
is spot on, but I do wonder about what if she had married Suryabhan. It would have been - it is only a loose parallel - as if Elizabeth Bennet had married Mr. Collins!

Ruqaiya has jalal's undivided attention...a friend, confidant and political advisor...she is 'the woman' in jalal's life (of course, I am saying so wrt harem)...the exciting part will be when this equation gets disturbed...jalal-jodha-ruqaiya trio can set the screen on fire...
