Great question, funny thing is I started watching this show exactly on that epi where he marries her the first time, so this is when I was first introduced to the faces of these characters and I rememember thinking about this very question ...
My take would be that yes there was definitely more to this than what what there appeared to be on the surface. The fact that it was out of anger, frustration, and learning he was betrayed yet again like always..it was his way and the easiest means of punishment for the both of them in some sense. He did it to himself for the fact he believed he was so blind that again he trusted someone he shouldn't have, he became a fool yet again in his mind and with Naku it was simply for the sake of saying punishment through his torturing...
All this was on the surface but when I really think about it I can't help but think he had always such a strong connection with Naku that on the inside his intention was to not lose her although him being gadha did not see that to begin with...we all know Dutta-Naku relationship from the very began had naturally fallen into place...and Ivy even mentioned how no one was forced upon each other in this relationship, which was the beauty of it...it just happened...with that said when this whole issue of Sups running with the help of Naku made him react not to the fact that Sups ran but rather the fact that Naku helped. It was like he could absolutely careless about Sups but he was hurt mostly by fact that it was Naku, his every word and reaction to the situation was revolving around Naku's so called betrayal because he had accepted her so much that it hurt him in the place he refuses to believe exists ...his heart...but it just so happened I think his very action of marrying her came from his heart for the reason of not losing her but was masked by thoughts in his mind, his own reasoning for why he did it was what we were told on the surface. DSP is a man who after Seema's betrayal thought through his mind and neglected the use of his heart especially in such matters...to him love...marriage...is no longer something blissful but rather painful which makes sense in the long run to why he would make that connection that marriage is a punishment...
I found his only weakness was he that he broke easily when finding out truths of those he trusted blindly and that was due to the fact again that he always took into account the facts presented to him rather than just thinking from his instincts, like would she do it...and he did doubt it which was seen through his breakdown and questioning and even saying her to speak up I feel he was in disbelief, his words of questioning her how can a friend to that ? it was like he was quesitioning himself really because I think even he knew somewhere that she wouldn't but as things unfolded it was like everything was against her...but in the end it was the facts that his mind processed because the heart is what he ignored. And then finally that moment where he was almost fed up of hearing it and angry and frustrated with everything that he felt the right thing to do is punish him for bring a fool and her for helping ...so he went ahead with marriage in mind...named punishment by the mind and a relationship by the heart ...
that was my thought on it...basically deep down he wanted so much NOT to lose her yet his priority was to punish her...
P.S woah first time I have ever written something discussing the show 😆
