First off, I have to say that you have definitely unleashed Pandora's box here.. At least for me. Because I had to go back and rewatch that scene to make sure I know what I want to say.. And once that happened, I just had to go ahead and watch a couple more too.. 😆

But coming to the question at hand - the reason behind Dutta marrying Nakku at gunpoint the first time around.. Honestly, in my opinion he didn't do it out of hidden love or misunderstood feelings. He did it out of hate. He hated the thought of Nakku loving him and he just had to erradicate/destroy that love. But let me explain..

After the Seema debacle, Dutta had been told that money rules and that ruthless people who have a ton of cash and power to sport get EVERYTHING. And as much as Dutta HATED those people - those people that Seema chose over him - he still ended up being just like them (in his mind). Because he had countless amounts of money and power and that EVERY one was either scared of him or respected him. And in his mind, everyone's approval just served as a reminder that what Seema had said all those years ago was true. That him, as he was before, was NO one compared to the Dutta Bhao he is now. And that was okay to him - in his mind he was a monster and he had learned to live with that.

But enter Nakku.. This girl who for the first time in a long time, reminded him of the "Dutta" in him. The one who fought for honor (her honor) and upheld the good. And she reminded him of the "Dutta" that people weren't "scared" of or "respected" for his money, power or gun, but rather for his heart and compassion. She always treated him as Dutta.. The mechanic. The guy who can be wrong and when he is, can be told that he is wrong! So he told her everything about Seema, the woman who made him into Dutta Bhao.. And believed that Nakku understood HIM - understood DUTTA - as he was.. Not as everyone saw him.

But when he found out that she'd helped Supriya "escape" his clutches, he was betrayed.. He was betrayed because Nakku treated him like a monster too.. Like someone who people need to be protected from. And that he knew how to handle - he had to kill her, make a lesson out of her.

He did not however know how to handle the fact that HIS Nakku, the girl he'd hoped and BELIEVED understood HIM.. That Nakku was also in fact one of many in a line of people who (in his mind) loved him for his money. Because why ELSE would anyone love a man like him?! Why else would she pick him if not to prove that what Seema had said was right - that the type of men he now emulated, the type of men that Seema left the car mechanic Dutta for, were the type of men who got EVERYTHING. Who meant everything. And who people played TRICKS to be around. In his mind, as convoluted as it may be, Nakku loving him was a betrayal to his core because Nakku's friendship was with Dutta the car mechanic.. But her love COULD NOT be with anyone other than Dutta BHAO. And for her to pick Dutta BHAO over Dutta..

He was upset at her for tricking him again.. AFTER Seema - when he was SURE this would never happen. And in his anger, he vented on the only thing/person he could - Nakku. Last time, he made Seema the object of his hate.. but he knew how selfish she was in some ways and therefore was able to handle it a bit better.. Her innate selfishness coupled with the realization that he was a bad judge of character helped lessen the blow. Only this time, he was SURE he was right - that Nakku had been one of the GOOD guys. And to be told he was wrong. To be told he could STILL be tricked and made a fool of. That no one would EVER love Dutta and that BHAO would always win. Well that just wasn't acceptable.

He couldn't kill her because it was Nakku - the girl who spoke of love with such conviction that you just had to believe her. And I know for a fact that when he looked in her eyes, he could not reconcile the garbage being spewed about her with what he saw in there but he could not believe her either. So he left, got drunk.. And what he does when he is drunk, can never be explained. Not even by him. Proven by when he hurt Nakku in his drunken stupor a couple of nights earlier.

In his drunken state, he did what he thought was the best punishment for him (for being stupid) and for her (for not realizing what a horrible man he was - what a horrible person he'd emulated!). He married her to remind him how EVERYTHING pure can eventually be corrupted (again, in his mind) and to remind her that he isn't such a catch just because he has money and power (which is again what HE thought she was after)..

And this could all just be gibberish on my part.. But honestly, this is what it seemed to me. He really married her out of hate and pure disgust. I didn't really notice any hidden love at all.

AND this is clearly ignoring the fact that the dramatic wedding in the show was all a ploy for increased trps.. That they could have EASILY resolved this issue in a less dramatic end.. 😆

Dutta never tolerated Dhokha , any person who did dhokha was not spared

Specially at this time of his life , happiness cmng to his life he came across not one but 2 Dhoka;s ,, double dhokha
1 .sups runnign away but
2. Nakku helping her run , NAKUU helping her betray DUTTA
For him at this point it was the lady he was ready TO BE MARRIED ,, running away but also the lady who had won his freindship ,,taught him to think of love BETRAY him
so ofcourse he is MAD and nakku in frort of him, had to take his brunt of anger ,,but he could have punished her in many ways
Seema was his major Dhoka ,but he could not kill her ,,so thinking of kiiling nakku was out of q .
he could have punished her in many other ways
banned her frm his terriroty or banned her from gettign employment or any other way
now that would have let her out of his sight but he choose the Punishment that binded her to him ,,,
his brain did say he was punishing himself as well as her for the Dhoka but at the same time i think it was his heart that made him choose the punishment of marriage of being binded rather than seperated ,,
So you see the marriage punishment was 2way ,,
one for her to be binded to him and
2nd for him so he wont fall in the trap of love and marriage again

A very thought provoking post,Ani 👏 and loved evryone's take here. This was also a phase in LTL that never failed to miff me and I slowly began to become disenchanted with story . How on earth does a Born Protector of the Weak like Dutta Bhao drag a meek housemaid to the mandap & forcefully marry her gunpoint?😲 How does a man who values family above everything else make the worst nightmare of every girl's parents come true right in front of their eyes? This is the man whose life changed after watching girls like Nakusha forcibly sent into lives of pure hell as bonded sex slaves as per BB's story.Never in a million years would he do the same to another girl.
And why would a shrewd & immensely perceptive gangster like him would even be thinking of punishment in the first place?😕 Who, for that matter, in their right mind would believe someone like Nakusha is capable of planning the fleeing of a dreaded mobster's fiancee with her paramour, planting bombs in cars, liasing with hitmen, arranging for dead bodies with a government run mortuaries?😲😕🤔
That track was in complete conflict with the character of DSP as portrayed uptil then.
DSP would have thrown the entire Mahale family out on the streets. That would have been his max punishment even if he was somehow convinced of his maid's culpability. That dramatic marriage though visually entralling, was completely uncalled for.
I fully agree with Fivr that Patil Saab never had any hidden or misguided feelings for Nakusha that ultimately culminated in that farce wedding.Nor that he didn't want let go of her.The track was invented to raise the TRPs by trying to interest the general soap watching crowd with the promise of 'fullto" entertainment in the form of "Shaadi at Gunpoint".😆

Yaay ... This is why I love this forum ...All we need is a start and we can go on and on

Fivr :- Told u , this is the USP of this forum ...

@ Guys ...Loved the thoughts..Loved the fact that everyone has an opinion ...
@ Ani ... Thank U for bring up the question , It brought back life to this forum
***************************************************************************************

Now to my view ...Acc to me , D did not think he deserved to be loved as Dutta Bhau ...though he craved for it ...all his life , whenever he gave it a chance ...he was shunned and turned away ...The One person, who did not turn away from him apart from AS and Baji was Naku ...

If u see For the rest of world he was always Dutta Bhau , for his family ...he was their son , brother or friend ...But for first time , he found someone , who without a relationship between them ...he felt at home , he was happy and he was just Dutta ...

He gave the relationship, the name of friendship ...yes rightly it was ...But he gave her the power to tell him , what to do and how to do it ...even if was to love for Sups or buy a gift for her or appreciate her cooking ...he had to be told ...
But when it came to Naku ...he just knew what to do ...

Well Why did he marry her ...Ppl say when u r drunk , u do and say what u really want to do or say ..
.I feel its was really Naku that he wanted to be it ... the incident just gave it a reason to bring out ...He gave the reason of hate ... Maybe it was...
But even hate was feeling , he felt after years of living in a vacum and loneliness ...I think he did not want to let go of that feeling ...or person who made feel again ...even though it was hate ... least he felt some thing .

Great post Ani, something I have often pondered about. My 2 cents worth.

According to me the first marriage was in rage and anger, completely blinded by the fact that the girl he was getting married to, after so much of retrospection, stood him up. The letter added fuel to his rage.

However he did not intend to marry Naku initially. Given to believe that Naku did all that she did just to ensure she finds a place in his life (stuns me how he believed all that was said), was when he decided to marry her and punish her. Still remember the dialog 'Lekin tu mera karegi kya'.

But then all this if we genuinely try to find logic in the story, else I guess the whole drama was to create that suspense for meter points.

Loving all the POVs.

Hey guys nice discussion ... I thing D married naku out of anger ...she was girl whom he trusted inspite of all the going through hell in his previous relation ship with seema ...He gave sups a chance just coz of naku ...he was shocked by the distrust when he got to know the fact ... he could have allowed them to go but cvs thought its impossible for a person like D in sane mind ever to marry again of all the betrayal he went through ...in fit of range he married her ...
the convo after their 2nd marriage on suhagrat day he did confess ...when she came into his life & house he felt some feeling for her ...i think he did had a feeling for her ...😊

Love all these different POVs there is. 😊

Fivr...love the way you analyse Dutta. 😊

Just love this part you wrote...And to be told he was wrong. To be told he could STILL be tricked and made a fool of. That no one would EVER love Dutta and that BHAO would always win.

Priya...thanks for giving me the idea of opening a thread...it has been very interesting with all these different POVs.😊

My first take was that he did it out of hurt and anger and it was a punishment for himself and Naku.

But watching the episodes again and again...I though there must be more to it...why go after her when she left the house the next day...like Sudarshan said: what is it with this girl, since Dutta keep running after her.

What I love about this discussion is that even though there are to groups...one who believe he did it out of hate and anger. The other that believe that there was more to it. But in both situation there has been so many great new perspectives and great analyses of the character Dutta...just love it.

Thanks everyone...love all the post.😃

I agree...that the first marriage was to get high ratings and to give a twist to the story.

But...

MR showed so much vulnerability and hurt in his eyes and voice...that there was this feeling about that there was much more to it than hate and anger.

So when did Dutta fell in love with Naku or realize he had deep feelings for her?

For me it happens when he thought he had lost her and saw her at Anna's house.
