PART 13

Recap : Sid and Riddhima avoid each other after their 'encounter' in Goa. Sid leaves for a conference to Germany and both of them miss each other like hell. Shilpa asks Riddhma if she's never seen love for her in Sid's eyes and tells her that Sid loves her. Riddhima wants to get it clarified but is hesitant. Dr. Kirti hands off one of Sid's patients to Riddhima and Riddhima comes across Armaan's and Sid's notes in the file. She rushes home to cross check and realizes that the handwriting in the letters matched Sid's handwriting and not Armaan's. Everything starts to fall into place and whatever did not, Riddhima decides that she would find out the truth about it.

Sid returned home worried sick about Riddhima. She had left the hospital without telling anyone where she was going. He'd tried her phone probably a million times and there was no answer. She'd apparently left in a hurry because her desk hadn't been tidied up the way she normally does whenever she left for the day. Shilpa hadn't seen her the whole day. A ward boy had said he'd gone into her cabin in the afternoon to give her a file and she was in her cabin then. One of the nurses mentioned seeing her running out of the hospital like crazy in the afternoon. She'd taken her car, Sid noticed as he fidgeted with his own car keys, got into his car and drove off to go check if she was home before calling the cops.

"Riddhima!!!!" Sid shouted as he threw open the doors and barged into the house. "Riddhima!!" he continued shouting as he searched throughout the house. As his voice bounced back off the walls and echoed into silence, he felt the cold claws of fear tighten around his heart but he determinedly fought it down. He ran up the stairs two at a time and barged into his room and Riddhima was sitting on the bed, clutching on to some papers. He did not know if he wanted to hug her with relief or strangle her for scaring the hell out of him.

Sid : Riddhima!!

He let out a huge sigh.

Sid : Yeh kya hai Riddhima? Main kab se chilla raha hoon. Tumne jawab kyun nahi diya? Aur tum aise hospital se bina bathaye wapas kyun aa gayi?

Riddhima remained silent. Sid felt fear close in on him again.

Sid : Riddhima, sab theek tho hai na? Tum theek tho ho na?

He crouched down in front of her and placed his finger beneath her chin to lift her face to his. She had been crying.

Sid : Baath kya hai Riddhima? Tum ro kyun rahi ho? Sab kuch theek tho hai na?

His glance fell on the stack of papers she was holding. One look and he knew those were the letters he had written to her. Armaan.. Had Armaan contacted her? Was that why she was holding those letters?

Riddhima : Kyun Sid? Apne aisa kyun kiya?

Sid was puzzled.

Riddhima : Apne mujhse sachchayi kyun chhupayi?

Sid was still wondering what she was talking about.

Riddhima (in between sobs) : Kyun mujhe nahi bathaya ki.. Yeh saare letters.. Yeh sab.. Yeh sab apne mujhe likhe the???

Sid's expression changes from puzzlement to surprise as he realizes that Riddhima had finally found out the truth. Oh God, now what was he going to do? Sid stood up and turned away.

Riddhima : Kyun Sid? Kyun? Aur main paagalon ki tarah yehi sochthi rahi ki Armaan.. Each time I found Armaan to be different from what he'd written in the letters, I kept overlooking it all.. Kyunki main uss insaan se pyaar karthi thi jisne mujhe yeh letters likhe.. Uss insaan ke liye main kuch bhi kar sakthi thi.. Agar wo badal bhi jaaye tho bhi usse pyaar karthi.. Lekin Armaan wo insaan tha hi nahi jisse main pyaar karthi hoon.. Wo tho.. Wo tho aap the.. Hamesha se.. Aur main apne feelings kabhi samajh hi nahi payi.. Samajh hi nahi payi ki aapke aane se pehle hi aapke aane ka ehsaas mujhe kyun ho jaatha hai, kyun aapko dekthe hi meri saansein ruk jaathi hain, kyun aapke chhune se meri dil ki dhadkan thez ho jaathi hai.. Kyun jab bhi aap mujhe dekhthe, mujhe lagtha ki main duniya ki sabse khoobsurat ladki hoon, kyun aapki aankhon ka dard mujhe chhubtha hai..

She reaches over to Sid and makes him turn to face her.

Riddhima : Kyun aapne mujhe sachchayi nahi bathayi Sid? Kyun rehne diya iss bhram mein ki Armaan hi wo hai jisse main pyaar karthi hoon? Kyun? Kyun? Kyun?

She grabbed the front of his shirt and shook him, laid her head on his chest and cried.

Sid : Kya bathatha tumhe Riddhima? Ki Armaan ke paas tumhare khath ke jawab dene ke liye time nahi tha iss liye maine tumhare khath ke jawab diye? Kyunki letter tho tum hum dono ko hi likhthi thi lekin khabar tumhe sirf Armaan ki chahiye thi aur.. yeh sachayi jaanne ke baad tumhara dil toot jaatha aur main tumhe takleef mein nahi dekh saktha?.. Ya phir yeh ki maine

tumse sachchayi iss liye chupayi kyunki mujhe darr tha ki sachchayi jaanne ke baad main tumhe kho doonga? Ya phir tumhe yeh bathatha ki jab main yahan tumhare liye aaya, tumhe sachayi bathane tho tumhari aankhon mein mujhe sirf Armaan ke liye pyaar dikha? Yeh jaanne ke bavajood ki wo unn letters se bilkul alag hai, phir bhi tumhari aankhon mein sirf usi ke liye pyaar tha aur main chup reh gaya..?

Riddhima : Kyunki main samajhthi thi ki Armaan tum ho!!! I thought he was the one who I'd loved all my life. I thought he was acting different because.. because he didn't want anyone to know about us just then. I was willing to overlook everything because thats how much I love you.. you.. the one who wrote me all these letters all these years.. The one who knows me better than even I know myself.. Ek baar kehkar tho dekhthe..

Sid (crying now) : Kabhi himmath hi nahi hui Riddhima.. Mujhe laga sachchayi jaanke tum takleef hogi, because I thought you'd fallen for Armaan..

Riddhima : How could you? Ithna bhi yakeen nahi tha mujhpe? Mere pyaar pe? Pandrah saalon mein.. What we shared.. did you not trust any of that?

Sid : Aisi baath nahi hai Riddhima.. Main bass tumhari khushi chahtha tha.. I could not see you hurt.. If you loved Armaan..

Riddhima : I love you!!! I love you Siddhant Modi!! I love you!!!

Riddhima shouted it out and slumped to the ground and Sid stood there unable to respond. He'd waited for this moment for so long, to hear her say the words.. He wanted her to keep saying those words and never stop. He could hear them all his life and never tire of hearing them. But they still had a lot of things to clear.

Sid : lekin Riddhima, phir tum hamesha mere saath ithni uncomfortable kyun thi?

Riddhima : Because though my brain told me that it was Armaan I should be in love with, my heart always knew it was you. It scared me that I had feelings for you, that I was attracted to you when I should be having feelings for Armaan, when I should be attracted to him so I decided to avoid you. I couldn't understand my feelings for you. But even when I thought Armaan was the one who'd sent me all those letters, I realized I'd fallen in love with you anyways. Shilpa told me that.. you.. love me and that night, on the terrace I came there because I wanted to know if it was true. I wanted to hope that things could be right between us. But when you asked me why I wanted to know, I couldn't tell you that I love you. I was worried you'd married me just out of pity or guilt over Armaan's actions and if I told you that I'd fallen in love with you after making such a hue and cry over Armaan.. I.. I didn't know what you'd think of me.. I hated myself because I thought I was such a shallow female.. After being in love with someone for so long, I'd just moved on so quickly.. I felt it wasn't right.. I didn't know what to think of myself.. It was all.. it was all just so complicated..

She started to cry again. Sid crouched down beside her, took her face in his hands and wiped away her tears.

Riddhima (between sobs) : Today, when I saw Armaan's handwriting in the patient file, I realized it wasn't the same as the one in the letters. Then when I flipped the page and I saw your handwriting, I recognized it. I had to make sure so I came back home to cross check. You don't know how hard I've been praying for it to match. Its been so difficult Sid, I thought I could never tell you my true feelings.. I thought we could never be together..

Sid placed his finger on Riddhima's lips.

Sid : Don't say that ever again.. You don't know how difficult it has been for me.. To have you here, as my wife, so near and yet so far.. To hide the truth from you has been absolute torture for me.. The day I got to know about your wedding with Armaan, I felt myself die from within. I thought I'd lost you. But then we got married and it was even worse. You were my dream Riddhima and you had come true but as a reality that could not be realized. Each night I knew you were watching me from behind the terrace door and all I'd want to do was come up to you, hug you, tell you that I love you, that I'd never hurt you, to ask you to trust me with your heart. But each time, the thought that you loved Armaan would stop me..

Riddhima : There never was, is or will be anyone but you Sid..

Sid pulled Riddhima into a tight hug and they sat there like that for long moments. Each trying to absorb the other into themselves. The pain, the agony, their wait, their love, their longing, all pouring out in the form of tears from their eyes as they held each other. They forgot time, place and people. There was nothing in their world except for the two of them in each others' arms. Sid slowly pulled away and then he cupped her face in his hands. He bent his head and kissed away the tear on her cheek. "I love you" he told her breathlessly. He bent to kiss away the tears on her other cheek "I love you" he told her again. Then he slowly bent towards her lips. "I love you Riddhima" he told her against her lips just before he kissed her with all the passion and longing of the all the years that he'd waited for this very moment.

Riddhima sat there with her eyes closed while Sid tried to convey to her through his kiss what he couldn't seem to put into words. She responded with a passion that matched his own, a longing that matched his own and a love that matched his own. Of their own free will, Riddhima's hands made their way up Sid's back to hold him closer, tighter. They kissed till both of them were out of breath. Sid pulled away from the kiss first but he still held on to her tight; scared that if he moved away from her, she'd turn into a dream and vanish. If this was a dream, he never wanted to wake up. He rested his forehead against hers. Their eyes were closed, their breathing labored and their heartbeats wild. Sid opened his eyes to gaze into Riddhima's. Their eyes spoke of longing and their hearts spoke of love even as passion coursed through them. Sid saw a blush colour Riddhima's cheeks and she looked away. Yes, the blush, the downcast eyes, everything was for him.. She was for him.. He hugged her to him again and thanked the Gods for finally bringing her into his life.

Sid's phone rang. Riddhima looked up at Sid but Sid had his eyes closed and looked as if he did not care.

Riddhima : Sid phone baj raha hai..

Sid : Bajne do..

Riddhima : Dekh lijiye na, agar kuch important hua tho.

Sid : Nah..

Riddhima : Sid aap..

Sid : Riddhima.. Ab tumhe mujhe aap bulane ki zaroorath nahi hai..

Riddhima : Kyun? Aap mere pati ho na..

Sid (smiling) : Pati hone se pehle, main tumhara dosth tha, dosth hoon aur hamesha rahoonga.. Aur dosthon ke beech yeh aap kijiye lijiye, its not happening Riddhima..

Riddhima (smiling) : theek hai.. Jaisa aap.. Jaisa tum kaho..

Sid (still smiling) : Better.. Much better..

Riddhima was glad that she'd finally got her real Sid back. He wasn't moody or perpetually sad anymore.. This was the guy she knew like she knew herself.. Sid was the one and she knew it with absolute certainity, no nagging doubts, nothing..

Sid couldn't believe that Riddhima was in his arms, that his dream had finally come true. He gently tucked away a lock of hair from her face and watched her blush in reaction. He could not take his eyes off her..

Riddhima : Aise kya dekh rahe ho?

Sid : Yakeen nahi hotha Riddhima ki tum meri baahon mein ho.. yeh sab sapna tho nahi?

Riddhima places a kiss on his cheek and looks away feeling shy. Sid was about to pull her in for another liplock when they heard the doorbell. Sid got up and went to open the door and Riddhima followed him. It was Shilpa.

Shilpa : Jeeju!! Main kabse aapka phone try kar rahi thi? Di mili kya? Wo theek tho hai na?

Riddhima came forward from behind the door, the blush still staining her cheeks.

Shilpa : Di!! Kahan thi aap? Hum sab kithne pareshaan ho gaye the? Jiju ne tho poora Sanjeevani sar pe utha liya tha. Aur aap apna phone kyun nahi answer kar rahi thi? Patha hai main kithni pareshaan ho gayi thi? Aur jiju aap? Maine aapka phone bhi kithna try kiya.. Ho kya raha hai?

Sid stands there scratching the back of his head with a lazy smile on his face, then he looks at Riddhima and Riddhima looks at him. They have an eyelock and Riddhima looks away blushing. Shilpa sees this. Looking at Riddhima, the glitter in her eyes and the blush on her cheeks and the love that radiated from her face, she knew that finally things had settled between Sid and Riddhima. The blush on Riddhima's cheeks couldn't have been brought about by anything else except for Sid's love and the way Sid was looking at her.. It was a classic moment straight out of one of her romance novels. But she wasn't about to let them go so easily.

Shilpa (hands on her hips) : Achcha, tho poori duniya ko sar pe uthakar aap dono yahan romance kar rahe ho? Aur yahan tension ke mare meri jaan jaa rahi thi..

Sid and Riddhima smile at Shilpa. Shilpa had always tried so hard to get them together.

Shilpa : Ab aise khade khade mujhe ghoorna bandh karo and come on give me a hug guys!!!

Sid and Riddhima hug Shilpa and finally Shilpa felt at peace. She'd felt so guilty for snatching away her sister's happiness but now, finally seeing the happiness and love restored in her sister's life brought her joy.

Shilpa : I am so happy for both of you..

That night, Siddhant and Riddhima went over to the Guptas' for dinner. Shashank and Padma had watched helplessly as Sid and Riddhima had struggled with what they thought to be a loveless marriage so long. They felt it was only right that when they had finally found their happiness together, they should share it with them. The whole letter story came out and their parents were surprised that so much had happened and no one knew.

However, Shilpa was the one who was most surprised when she got to know that Riddhima thought she loved Armaan because she was under the impression that Armaan had written those letters. So she hadn't fallen in love with him when he'd tried to get close to her to get Shilpa jealous. Shilpa did not know what she felt at that moment ' joy, relief, sorrow or what..

Dr. Shashank : Lekin abhi bhi Siddhant, mujhe Armaan ki harkathein samajh mein nahi aayi.. Agar usne wo letters nahi likhe then why did he behave as if there was something between Riddhima and him? And if he did have feelings for her, why did he leave her on the day of the wedding?

Sid and Riddhima had been so preoccupied with their newfound love, carried away by their emotions, they'd never given any of this a thought. They looked at each other puzzled. But Shilpa knew, Armaan had gotten close to Riddhima to make her feel jealous, he had agreed to the marriage because she'd asked him to and maybe he too felt guilty for having led Riddhima on and he had left because.. Shilpa swallowed.. Because he loved her and he couldn't get himself to marry anyone else.. Shilpa felt like crying. Where are you Armaan? Please come back, she prayed silently. She wanted to tell everyone the truth, that Armaan wasn't wrong, he hadn't cheated Riddhima di.. But she did not want to spoil Sid and Riddhima's moment, she did not want a shadow of guilt to fall on the radiance of their newfound love. She decided that eventually she would clear the air regarding Armaan and hoped and prayed that Armaan would find his way back into her life.

Padma : Armaan ne jo kiya wo bhi kismat ka koi khel hi hoga.. I am sure everything will be alright. And the two of you (looking at Sid and Riddhima) now, start afresh.. Forget all that's happened.

Shashank : Yes.. And don't worry about Armaan.. I'll talk to Shekhar and we'll sort it out..

When she heard her dad say that they would look for Armaan and sort things out, Shilpa felt life return to her.. Life that she'd felt had been sucked out of her when she got to know Armaan had stood her sister up on their wedding day.. She said a quick, silent prayer to the Gods above and outside the window of the dining room, a shooting star sprinkled stardust as it streaked across the night sky.
