Respect has to be mutual !
@ sarina- its not as much about the technique of showing respect as about the elders feeling that the youngsters do what they are told.

that's not where i was going with that.

if youngsters respect elders and elders respect youngsters and if youngsters are told to show their respect by touching the elders feet and the elders don't do the same then there is something wrong with the act of touching the feet. if there is nothing wrong with the act of touching the feet then the elders would do that too.

Mister K.....I would like the scientists to be skeptical rather than being cynical..........I don't know how I person would try to prove something until he assumes its existence first......You say that there is no Yeti until proven......I say there is a Yeti until its existence is disproved....I just used the yeti as an example(I don't believe there is a Yeti)......Just because we are unable to prove something because comprehending it is beyond human abilities doesn't mean it doesn't exist.............I am a skeptic and I am a strong believer of 'MAY BE'.

BI, what good would a "may be" do when it comes to palm reading? Why would you believe in the lines if they give you an iffy answers to your questions?

K, elders give blessings that are often accompained by putting their palm on the youngster's head or kissing on the forehead. Both gestures are very comforting. Always have a soothing effect on me.
It does not have to be perfect tit for tat all the time. Because if this is what one insists for then even nature discriminated while designing male and female bodies, by aging degenerating elders' body, by making some tall, some fat, some thin, some deformed.........the list is unending.

Not sure about every fourth part but yes the divorce rates are high. I had attended a wedding just a few months back, in a Delhi farmhouse. The theme of the decor was simply too beautiful as was the F&B and multi cuisine arangements. Everything seemed to be perfect about the celebration arrangement. However the divorce came in just a months time due to some differences betw the couple. The groom could not agree to the brides insistance on having her dog on their bed every night !

😆
You attended the wedding from the groom's side or from the bride's? My guess is groom's.

nope. not talking about tit for tat.

youngsters kiss elders too. love is mutual. respect is mutual. the acts of expressing are a little different and that is what is being questioned.

i will give you an example.

let's say shaking the hand is considered as two people respecting each other. an elder and an youngster can shake hands. nothing wrong in that.

but touching the feet is being considered as an expression of respect but at the same time an elder in india refuses to do that to youngsters which clearly says that the act is wrong.

the elder will acknowledge that he / she has respect. but he will not commit the act. what does that tell you?

well I havent seen that being done anywhere. A "namaste" with folded hands and a bow to each other by teachers and students is practised atleast in some martial arts tradition in the east but never the feet touching part. The indian gurus have a tradition of demanding and expecting a complete surrender by their students. Forget about the feet touching part they expect the student to believe ever word of theirs and carry out every instruction unquestioningly !
