It was time for Taani's singing audition! Some people gathered around the stage. Taani was so nervous.
Taani: What if I forget the words? But I can't. I know this song from childhood.
One by one, contestants sang. Most of them were quite good. It was time for Taani's turn. There was a quick thumbs up from Robby and Mauli n she walked onto the stage.
The music started, Taani sang:
'Zindagi gawa kar bhi jo zindagi milein,
Har khushi gawa kar bhi jo ek khushi milein.
To mange lu mein tere liye, tere liye, tere liye, tere liye,tere liye.
Jism paak ankhon mein bhar lu,

The song could be heard all over the college. When I had finished the song, someone clapped. Out of the darkness came Mr Cool Guy. I was surprised. He wasn't there before. Everyone else applauded. Mauli ran to stage and hugged me. Tears rolled down Taani's cheeks. Taani rushed off to the girl's washroom.
Taani: Why am I missing Anu so much? 😭
After ten minutes of crying, Taani came out of the washroom and walked to her next class. Just then, Taani noticed that Mr Cool Guy was following her.
Mr Cool Guy: Hey, your singing was amazing,just like my friend. She used to love singing. By the way, I'm Anurag.
Taani: Thanks. I'm Taa.....
Before Taani could say anything, the bell rang. She was going to be late for her next class. Taani started to run but Anurag stopped her.
Anurag: Have you been crying?
Taani: No
Anurag put his finger next to my eye and showed me something. It was a teardrop.
Taani: It was just that I was missing someone, someone very special.
Taani skipped off to class. Suddenly, Taani's teacher, Mrs Sharma, noticed her.
Mrs Sharma: Taani, why are you so late?
Taani:It was the singing auditions so....
Mrs Sharma: That finished ten minutes ago.
Anurag came to the door.
Anurag:Sorry that we're late ma'am. I'm new and I got a bit lost. She was just helping me.
Mrs Sharma: Hmmm. You two may sit down.
Taani mouthed 'Thank You' to Anurag an they sat down.
Mrs Sharma droned on about the students exams next month.
Mauli: Taani.....
Taani: What?
Mauli passed me a note.
Taani quickly opened it. The message said:
A cup of coffee? - Anurag
Taani glanced at him. Anurag just smiled.
Sure, but have to be quick. - Taani
Taani passed the note back. Anurag winked at Taani. 😉 For some reason, Taani blushed. 😳
Class finished and Anurag caught up with Taani. They walked through the endless corridors and reached a small coffee shop.
Anurag: So, who do you have in your family?
Taani: Mum and brother. You?
Anurag: I have my Dad, Mum, sister, brother, brother-in law and niece. Don't you have a dad?
Taani was a bit uneasy. She hadn't talked about her dad for ages.
Taani: He passed away.
Anurag: Oh, I'm really sorry.
Taani: It's fine. I should be going now.
Anurag: Shall I drop you?
Taani: No.
Taani had to do something special. She walked to a small stall. She came to this stall every day in her childhood with Anu. It was the kulfi stall. She told the stall owner to give her five kulfis. Everyone would have been surprised to hear this, but he didn't. After all, he had known her for so many years. It had started to rain heavily. She paid the stall owner ten rupees and walked along the path.
Suddenly the rain stopped pouring over Taani. She looked up to see an umbrella. Holding the umbrella was Anurag.
Anurag: Take this. If you don't, you will fall ill.
Taani: Thanks.
As he was giving her the umbrella, their hands touched. It felt as if Taani had known him for years. He quickly took his hand away and she walked home.
Taani reached her house.
Laboni Maa: Taani, how was college?
Taani: It was fine Maa. Did any letters come?
Laboni Maa shook her head.
Taani was upset. For eight years she had waited for a letter or a call from Anu, but nothing ever came.
Tuesday arrived and Taani reached college. She sat down. My form teacher, Ms Bushan, registered us.
Ms Bushan: Taani and Mauli, could you get our class' profile from the staffroom.
Taani and Mauli: Yes ma'am.
They walked to the staffroom and rummaged the boxes. Taani found them. Suddenly, Taani bashed into a student and all the papers fell. Just as she was picking them up, she noticed that one of the papers said 'Anurag'. Taani looked beside the name and saw that it said 'Ganguly'. Taani's heart was beating very fast. She looked down the sheet, it said:
Name: Anurag Ganguly
Parents: Shekher and Nilanjana Ganguly
Siblings: Ananya Basu and Robindo Ganguly.
Info: Studied eight years in USA.
Taani was overjoyed. Her Anu has come back. She can't believe it. He's Mr Cool Guy. Taani jumped to her feet and rushed out of the room.
Taani saw Anu walking along the corridors.
Taani: Anuuuuu......
