Part 4
"I can't breathe... Manmeet? I'm getting married to Manmeet Sarna? I can't! I need to talk to Kunj." Twinkle slowly gets up and notices Kunj standing outside on the balcony and walks out there. "Hi," She manages to utter.
Kunj doesn't even turn at the sound of her voice. "You shouldn't be here,"
"What?" Twinkle asks, completely baffled. "What do you mean I shouldn't be here? Just because I'm engaged doesn't mean I can't talk to anyone else."
Kunj finally turns to face Twinkle. "It does to me. When you're the girl engaged to my cousin, it does mean that I can't talk to you." He turns and goes back inside.
"Why doesn't he give me a chance to explain myself?" Twinkle pounds her fist on the railing and then turns to see her cousin staring up at her.
"Di, aap kya kar rahi ho?" Babli asked.
"Kuch nahin Babli," Twinkle smiled down at her.
"You're lying; you're upset na? That you're getting engaged to the scary looking guy, instead of the nice one?"
Twinkle gave her a small smile. "You never get what you want in life sweetie; best to understand that while you're young."
Babli shakes her head. "If I want something, I'll go ahead and snatch it from whoever or whatever it is."
Twinkle slowly touches her cheek. "I really hope when you get to that stage, you do exactly that," Her eyes wander inside and she notices Kunj and Manmeet leaving. She rushes to the door, and stands near her Maami, still staring hard at Kunj.
"Twinkle, Manmeet ko namaste karo," her Maami tells her.
Twinkle again obliges by folding her hands and saying namaste, waiting to see if Kunj recuperated the action which he did. As she shut the door behind them, she took Babli upstairs with her quickly, before her Maami could pester her some more.
"Promise me Babli ," Twinkle says as she slams the door behind her. "That you won't tell Pinni Maami that I like the other guy okay?"
"But di"" Babli tries to interrupt.
"No Babli. Please. Do this for me?"
Babli sighs. "Okay di,"
Right then they both hear a knock on the door.
"Come in," Twinkle calls out as her Maami walks in.
"So?? Kaisa laga ladka?" She asks.
Twinkle and Babli exchange a glance and Babli shakes her head slowly.
"Theek hai Maami, Itna achha bhi nahi, or itna bura bhi nahi," Twinkle tries to smile.
"Remember Twinkle, you need this alliance to finish Mahi's college," Her Maami says in a threatening tone before she leaves.
Twinkle sighs and sits down on her bed with Babli next to her. "I hate this,"
"I know you do," Babli pats Twinkle's back. "Call Mahi di, maybe that will make you feel a bit better?"
Twinkle smiles. "You're right,"
Babli leaves the room to give Twinkle privacy as she calls her little sister. Finally Mahi answers on the fourth ring.
"Mahi! Do you know how worried I've been? Phone answer kyu nahin kiya?" Twinkle says into the phone.
"Di, I was in class. I just got out," Mahi assures her.
"Hmm okay." Twinkle pouts.
"How are you doing? How was the plane ride?" Mahi asks.
"I'm okay"the trip was very nice," Twinkle smiles remembering the entire plane ride. "Remind me to tell you about it all later,"
"I will. Definitely!" Mahi grins. "Oh di, I was supposed to call you anyways."
"Oh? What's up?" Twinkle asks, as she slowly begins to take off her jewellery.
"You forgot the camera at home, so how will you take pictures at the baby shower?" Mahi says with a taunting tone in her voice.
"Oh no! I can't believe I forgot!" Twinkle says, feeling indifferent. "If there really was a baby shower, I'd feel worse, but you don't know that I lied about the whole thing. I'm so sorry Mahi for lying." She thinks to herself.
" It's okay di, it happens." Mahi says soothingly. "How's Maami? And sweet little Babli?"
"Maami's doing good and same with Babli. You should see her now. She's gotten so mature," Twinkle smiles remembering everything Babli had said to her.
"Di?"
"Haa?"
"Why do I get the feeling that you're hiding something from me?" Mahi asks.
"What? Why do you feel that?" Twinkle asks. "How can she tell?"
"It's something in your voice, it's only there when you're worried or not telling me something," Mahi admits.
"Mahi, aisi koi baat nahi hai. When I get home in two days. I'll explain everything!" Twinkle says. "Then you'll be okay?"
"Haa di!" Mahi giggles. "Achha, I've got to go."
"Kyu? Boyfriend's waiting?" Twinkle teases.
"Di! You know I don't have a boyfriend! Phir?" Mahi asks, frowning.
"Arrey meri pyaari si choti behen, I'm just teasing. It's not like I mention him, and he'll pop out of nowhere," Twinkle laughs.
Mahi giggles along with her and walks into someone a lot taller than her, who sends her phone flying away, crashing into three pieces. "God"you!" Mahi glares up at him. "How dare you?"
"How dare I?" He asks. "You're the one who's walking without even looking up!" He leans down and picks up the pieces of her phone. "You might need a new phone," He laughs.
"Oh really?" Mahi glares at him. "I had no idea!" She replies back in a sarcastic tone. She takes a deep breath, "Can I borrow your phone for a second?"
"Kyu? Todna hai kya?" He laughs, taking it out for her.
"No, I just want to call back my sister so she knows I'm alright," Mahi grumbles.
"Hello?" Twinkle answers sounding frantic.
"Di, it's me." Mahi tells her.
"Mahi? Kya hua? The call got disconnected and I kept trying to call back""
"Di"calm down for a second. I walked into some guy, and so my phone broke. But he was nice enough to lend me his phone just to call you back." Mahi tells her.
"Oh? What's his name?" Twinkle asks.
"Mujhe kaise pata hoga?" Mahi asks.
"If you don't know, then ask!" Twinkle says, "But be polite."
"Um"hi?" Mahi holds the phone away from her a bit. "Sorry, what's your name?"
"I'm Yuvraaj. Yuvraaj Sarna." He holds out his hand. Mahi slowly places her hand in his, and then goes back to the phone.
"Di, his name is Yuvraaj. Yuvraaj Sarna." Mahi tells her.
"Sarna?" Twinkle repeats.
"Haa di, kyun?" Mahi asks.
"Nothing"I'll see you in two days!" Twinkle hangs up quickly. "Another Sarna? Yeh kya ho raha hai babaji?"
Twinkle ponders some more about this new development and then finally manages to catch some sleep.
