Race you there
Well the masquerade ball had been a bigger flop than he had imagined. Ending the night with Twinkle in tears was something he was unprepared for and a sight he really hated. The highlight however, if he secretly will admit to himself, was dancing with the only and only Syapa queen.
While she was calming down, Kunj decided a walk down the beach would be beneficial to both. It would improve their mood and take their mind off the events of the night. The night was beautiful and it was only half past nine.
"Let's walk down the beach for a while." Twinkle said softly and hesitantly before he could voice his thoughts. She clutched his hand a bit more firmly and walked out of the ball venue.
The sky was a canvas filled with twinkling stars and a moon that shone brighter than he ever remembers. The sea was a gentle mess of waves washing against the golden sandy shore and the wind despite being warm carried a refreshing drift with it. Kunj being the gentleman he is draped his suit jacket over the creamy shoulders of his wife who despite momentary surprise gave him a smile of appreciation.
Half way down the beach they decided to walk along the edge of the sea. The cool kisses of the water and the warmth of the wind had a heavenly contrast and a quite spell of peace fell over the couple. The beach was empty despite the time and the quite atmosphere soon led Kunj's thoughts over the event of tonight. Dancing with Twinkle was surprisingly amazing and fun. And he was admit it to himself he wished he had more time to dance with her. She looked absolutely gorgeous tonight. He should have told her that. But egos are hard to deal with and complimenting Ms. Amritsar would be like fueling fire. He also thought that he might have to punch some of the men at the ball because of the way they were ogling his wife.
His train of thoughts come to an halt when he catches movement from Twinkle. She has now slipped her arms through the sleeves of his jacket, the fabric drowning her petite frame completely. Her high heels dangle carelessly from her hands and her eyes are ablaze with fires of mischief.
He know he is going to regret asking but he asks her anyway "Oi, Syapa Queen kya sooch rahi hai?"
Her face brightens up immediately and he knows she is happy he asked. "Kuch nahi," she says as she throws her silver shoes roughly in to the sand, "Woh swing dekhe rahe ho?" Lo and behold there is a swing set a hundred meters agead of them behind a picket picket fence.
"Haan, toh?"
"Toh, Race you there!" she barely manages to shout before she is off running towards the said destination.
Kunj shakes his head and smiles at her childishness, because it is damn adorable at time. Soon he is off running after her. She is fast, faster than he thought. Fortunately he is faster and soon they are neck to neck. He thinks he can overtake her when the fence comes.
He was terribly wrong. Because as soon as they hit the fence, Twinkle is effortlessly hitching the skirt of her dress over her knees and climbing over the barrier with the grace of some ethereal goddess. It makes him wonder, How many times has she done this, that she has become so good at it.
"I win! I WIN!" She exclaims merrily "Kunj, tum ladke ho ke haar gaye...poor baby." The pure joy on her face erases any biting retort he might have had.
She places herself on one of the swing seat, drags back and propels forward, launching herself towards the black sky. Her laughter soon breaks the once beautiful silence. It might be the champagne he had at the ball but Kunj decides her mellifluous laugh might be one of his favorite sounds. Soon he too starts swinging albeit with a lesser enthusiasm then his bitter better half.
"O, old man, tumhe maja karna toh aata hi nahi hai, na? She says while swinging higher and higher. "Itna slow koi swing karta hai kya?" Her pink gown too sways with the wind and for a second she looks like an angel from the heaven above.
"Challenge kar rahi ho? Theek hai, dekhte kaun higher swing karta hai."
They countdown from 3 and off they go trying to out-best the other.
The whole challenge is soon the last thing on their mind. Because it feels good to be a kid again and there's something magical in the air that makes them forget about all their worries and woes.
"Oi, Yeh private property hai. Niklo yaha se. NIKLO." Someone yells from behind them. Twinkle is enjoying herself too much to care and her laughter only gets louder after hearing this. Kunj on the other hand cranes his neck around to catch sight of an old man charging towards them with a big, thick stick.
"Oh Shit! Twinkle Bhaag! Chal" Kunj yells as he jumps off mid swing acrobatically.
"Kunj, I can't stop the swing suddenly. Aane do budhe khadoosh uncle ko."
Short on time and wanting to avoid trouble for the night Kunj does the first thing that comes to his mind and places himself directly in front of her swing. "Twinkle JUMP!"
And she does. She jumps into his waiting arms without a seconds hesitation. And Kunj to his credit catches her perfectly. She trusted him blindly...he didn't fail her.
They climb over the fence just as the old man reached the swing set and called out threat to call the police if they ever returned. However Kunj couldn't hear any of that over the melodious laugh of Twinkle's
And even if they did land in troublr for returning, Kunj thinks it would always be worth seeing her happy like this.
