So not sure whether it is a part of it.

i hear ramayan being recited every year during mid july till mid aug (called as ramayana maasam here in kerala)
havent heard abt this either.

now coming to jamy's last post yup agni pareeksha is done or said to have occur at the time you described.

i jux need to add something here during mata sita's stay in lanka one day Ravan came to see her and he bowed down to her and at tht instant sita maa took off her legs coz she didnt even wanted his shadow to touch her. this incident shows her devotion and her purity.. but alas it always the woman who is answerable to the society..

@amrita - AFAIK, Seeta did not enter fire as per the version MB Vana Parva has and in Valmiki Ramayana, she entered fire and Agni deva appears holding her. This was before Rama returning Ayodhya after killing Ravana. When Rama sees Seetha he tells her that he came Lanka and killed Ravana only to show the world he had been a dutiful husband and now she was free to choose even a monkey or rakshasa as her husband for Rama did not want her anymore as she had spent pretty good time in Lanka. To this, Seetha gives a taunting and mocking reply, asks Lakshmana to prepare a pyre and jumps in. But there are practical difficulties to believe this.(a tiresome task to type that right now) So I consider this jumping in fire was a finding of later male chauvinists who did not want to believe Rama accepted Seetha as she was.

Okies... Will have to do some readings on these too now.

@bold - Both Rama and Seeta seem to be more humane here. TBH, the tracks after the war are more confusing than ever. If my memory serves me right, (or I may be wrong, plz do correct me) Rajagopalachari's Ramayana does not explicitly describe Sita's Agnipariksha! It just ends with both of them along with L & H returning to Ayodhya where Bharat celebrates their return with great pomp!

I haven't really seen him hang around with band of boys though 🤔 (excluding the Pandavas😆)
Rival gangs as in the young kauravas? 😆

In ChinthaVishtayaya Sita (a poem on sita after her exile period) addition to this he indirectly tells her that she can even choose Laxman if she wants and the poet goes on stating tht Laxman leaving her in the forest is actually because of this statement coz he ONLY saw her as his MOTHER. even Laxman felt insulted by this statement (i feel)

@Krishnaa - Seetha was not that docile and devoted as many think, at least in Valmiki Ramyana.😉 I have no idea about Adhyatma Ramayana which is being recited annually here. And thanks for the complement.😊 Who is Anjana BTW?😆

@Anu - you are right in saying tracks after war are confusing. I have not read Rajagopalachari's Ramayana. So donno what it says. I have read Valmiki's version in pieces.

I dont know wat is true... 😭

Seems to me like another Jambu fruit.

I had lost respect for Devdutta Pattanaik the day I heard that in his book he had made Lord Krishna scold Draupadi for rejecting Karna n blamed all her misery for that one insult.

Well...had it been a random novelist then we could have called it 'creative liberty'.
But Devadutta Pattanaik is a well-known mythologist n a scholar who has done research for years.
So much so that he has even concluded that the Bhagavad Gita is a later addition.

Someone who knows SO MUCH and considers Indra, etc as a post n not one God...who knows Bhagavad Gita is a later addition, does not know that Sutaputra comment is a later addition too...Huh!!

On top of that it is he who had suggested(if I am not wrong) that Draupadi kicked out her other co-wives from Indraprastha...something which I never found in the epic...please correct me if I am wrong.
His blogs are quite famous n the perfect agent for brainwashing novice readers.

Devdutt Patnaik in both his books Jaya and Sita mentions incidents and stories from other versions ,folktales and plays as well

And he even mentions in his notes that it is from which version or play

Yes Sabhayata...I know he provides footnotes n sources but from wat I have seen...few people notice them.
I have seen many quoting Jambu fruit from Jaya but thet didnt observe that it is a folktale n not part of epic...

That is something I have never understood...while studying alternative versions is fine...wat is the point of mentioning such stories in the middle of the mainstream epic?
People like us...who are reading to learn n discuss...we will understand it is a folktale.
But people who read just for fun will believe this to be the gospel truth without reading the footnote n start arguing with the ones who are knowledeable...I have seen many such examples on Facebook n Quora... 😭
