Most Ridiculous Reality Music Show...

Sur Kshetra must be the most ridiculous reality music show...how the hell can you compare two sets of contestants when the Pakistani team sings Mohammad Rafi songs and the Indian team sings Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan songs?...and then they are scored at the same time and evaluated against each other?...this is like one team doing advanced calculus and the other team doing 2+2=4 for the same mathematics exam...even earlier in a previous episode, the Indian team was singing Abida Parveen's songs while the Pakistani team was singing Asha Bhosle's songs...why cant they have both teams singing songs of the same complexity and then evaluating them accordingly?...Nusrat Fate Ali Khan's songs are so complex and difficult, it is a miracle that India was able to score at the level it could...as compared to that, the Pakistan team had a easy time singing simple filmy songs for Rafi...

The Pakistani side should have been made to sing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as well or something at the same level like A.R. Rehman's compositions or Shankar Mahadevan's songs...in fact, while Bengalis are being asked to sing rural Punjabi songs, why cant Pakistanis be asked to sing Carnatic Classical or even North Indian classical like Bhimsen Joshi?...if you want to do a fair comparison, let the rules be fair and apply properly to both sides...

All we tend to hear on this show are Punjabi Sufiana music, Qawwali music and once in a while some Bollywood, and that too in a lopsided manner...on top of that you get jingoism from both sides, which is very unpleasant...why not compare music capabilities in a pleasant way?...let the participants sing all genres of music including Classical music, Ghazals, Bhajans, folk music, different types of bollywood music, western music etc...then we will see who deserves to win...if you force Indians to sing Sufiana Punjabi songs and have Pakistan sing some ordinary songs, then you might as well just give the trophy to Pakistan and the Indian team should simply pack its bags and leave...

What a ridiculous and retarded show...

first of all welcome to the forum🤗
yeah you are right.
we cannot judge how well the two sides sang when they are singing the songs of two different legends.
i think the both Pakistanis and Indians sang well yesterday. The difference was due to Indrani's score.

Yeah , It was due to Indrani, it wasn't her genre . It would have been easier if team India had a Person sitting in the finalist chair . Oh well .. next time.

And two different Genres I completely agree but Sadly the fact is most of the Pakistani singers are Not Classically trained so giving them a classical song will be unfair. Maybe Sara can handle it but even she has Pitch problems so .. idk ...

and in regards to singing Rafi songs. i also feel that singing Rafi songs are difficult , I honestly felt the pakistani contestants sang well but they lacked rooh and the essence of the song was COMPLETELY missing . Rafi is beyond them , the way he poured his emotions into each word , and sur .. can never be matched .

Priya, thanks for the welcome!!

I felt really bad for Indrani...expecting a bengali girl from Kolkata to perfectly sing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's complex songs, that too in a Punjabi dialect spoken more in Pakistan, is a bit too much...while Pakistanis were singing Rafi songs...it doesnt make sense...

I would challenge Mulazim or Nabil or Imran to sing the Sanskrit based Ganesh vandana by Shankar Mahadevan...or let them try to sing a Carnatic Classical or a bhajan by Bhimsen Joshi...they will end up getting 0s...

Mia,

I agree that Rafi's songs are not very easy...and you do need the feel...still, one can turn in an average performance on Rafi songs and get 30 or 40...it will be hard to get all 0s...however, for Nusrat's songs, it is hard to put in an average performance...either you get it like Yashraj Kapil did or you dont...

Rafi songs for Pakistan n Nusrat fatih ali khan songs for India is such imbalance!! If India is made to sing Sufi which they excel then Paki should sing Carnatic music in same wavelenght!!! Why always easy familiar ones for Pakistan not exploring real Indian music I dont undertand!! Why no folk songs, south songs or bhajans?!! Lol but Indian contestants did sing Kaaja song, haaji songs n were critisized right??!

I think you guys have a point here! I never thought of it myself but honestly when the Nusrat v/s Mod. Rafi song theme was going on it did occur to me that Pakistan had an upper hand here. I guess both the teams should get equally challenging songs and genres. So yeah maybe they should include more of the classical Indian songs to be given to the Pak contestants and see if they prove their mettle or not.
Having said that, I am extremely proud of Buddha, Yashraj, Diljaan and Aman coz i thought they all sang outstandingly and did more than justice to Nusrat Fteh Ali Khan's songs. All of them got 50 which says a lot about their calibre :)

You know to be Completely Unbias i have tried to listen to the contestants sing with my eyes closed. and Rafi songs , Kishore kumar. all the beautiful songs from 60's-70'-80's are ones we all grow up to . So we know the depth and emotion required for the song. If Abida ji can give 0 to diljaan for lack of Rooh . then Most of the Contestants who sang Rafi should have gotten a 0 . but nope it was given out like prasad .

Yes Pakistani contestants will find it very hard to sing Bhajans ( i personally don;t want them to Cuz it would be Haram for them) But folk songs. Marathi songs , tamil , regional , classical pieces or even raags .. i don;t think they can handle it . and they are not capable of such a huge challenge , some contestants don;t have the classical training to handle these songs.

At times i feel Diljaan , Yashraj and Budha . Aman are given harder songs cuz they can handle them since all have a good foundation of classical music.

I completely agree...and speaking of rooh, where is the rooh in Mulazim's singing?...he sang something making weird faces with a lot of vocal gymnastics, but where was the rooh in that singing?...honestly, I felt it was horrible...yet he won the face-off...I felt that Diljaan or even Nabil were better than him...besides, Mulazim's performance in other episodes have been below average at best...putting him in a finalist chair ahead of Diljaan or Yashraj Kapil is an absolute travesty...

But then Gajendra Singh is a mindless producer which is why he landed up on this channel after getting booted out from Zee TV...
