So, I was thinking about the TRPs this week, and how they've plummeted from an incredible 3.2 to a tepid 2.6 and was wondering why it happened.
I think when the TRPs rose to 3.1/3.2, viewers had just started flocking to SSEL and it could have been the beginning of SSEL's golden period. It was the moment SSEL started peaking, so obviously, unlike an established show, they had to keep churning out great episodes to make sure the TRPs not only rose further but were also maintained.
The CVs thought that the audiences were just loving SoDa and their plotting and wanted to see more of them. I remember Sandi telling us that she talked to one of the CVs and he said the audiences were liking SoDa. They may have been right about them liking the plotting, but I think they messed up on the question- "Why does the audience like SoDa's plotting?".
The ANSWER is that the audience likes it as long as Suhani and Yuvraj are being affected by it and there is some movement in YuvAni, especially Suhani's life because of it. The audience is not in it to watch Soumya's story or her journey.
Ultimately, Suhani is the protagonist and the audience identifies with her. They live vicariously THROUGH Suhani, so they want to see Suhani's story, her reactions, her emotions to SoDa's plotting and how she acts in those situations. The CVs have completely put Suhani the character on the back burner and don't concentrate on what she's feeling or how she's affected by all this plotting. The last two weeks, we've got innumerable solo scenes of Soumya where she introspects, we see how she is being affected and the only character growth that we've seen lately has been in Soumya.
CVs, Soumya is not the main protagonist and the audience doesn't identify with her nor do they want to watch HER story. If you look at all the TRP Toppers like DABH, SNS, YHM etc, there is a lot of scheming and plotting against the heroine BUT viewers tune in because there is a lot of focus on what the heroine is doing, what she's thinking, how she deals with all the villainy etc. There is proper focus on HER struggle. Here, it's almost become about Soumya's struggle to woo Yuvraj, rather than Suhani's struggle against prejudice and discrimination. That's where you are going WRONG!
In all the other shows, there is always great importance given to Ishita/Gopi/Sandhya's POVs, what they are feeling, thinking and doing. Here, the focus has shifted to what Somu is thinking, feeling and doing.
STOP your Somu jaap and focus on Suhani and her character!
Shows like YHM which have AYM/MCP leads like Raman survive because when push comes to shove, he also shows extreme love and concern. For example, my mom was watching KB yesterday and there was a scene where Pragya had been kidnapped and Abhi was going berserk looking for her. Although I can't forgive him for his past actions, I can intellectually understand why fans would forgive him for what he has done because of how extreme his concern for her is.
I'm sorry CVs, but when you have scenes like Suhani almost dying or being molested, Yuvraj needs to have APPROPRIATE reactions. He can't have blank expressions or a poker face, because that causes the viewers to have a disconnect with your lead couple.😡I think none of us have been able to stomach the fact that a husband who is supposed to be falling for Suhani had the most tepid reaction when she almost died and got molested. If the CVs want to pretend that he's not in love with Suhani and his emotions are in a nascent stage, they should have NEVER had those scenes at all. It's very chilling to see such a non-reaction from a person the protagonist is supposed to end up with.
What do you all think? Opinions?
